Association Members and their families are not eligible. Applicants must be a senior attending a MD High School. Judging will be awarded based on the quality of a student s essay, community involvement, student records, grades, financial need, and personal references. Carroll County Times Journalism Scholarship DEADLINE April 11th Applicant must be a Carroll County resident and a graduating high school senior, accepted for admission as a full-time student to a journalism school or journalism program with the intent to enter the field of journalism. Include the following with your application: transcript, letter of reference form an English teacher, letter of reference from a second teacher, letter of reference from a third person of your choice, Up to 3 clippings of published work, and a 250 word essay answering What do you see as the role of journalism in today s society? George, Miles & Buhr, LLC Architects & Engineers DEADLINE April 12th $500 Scholarship for students attending college to pursue a degree in architecture or civil engineering. Carroll County NAACP Branch #7014 DEADLINE April 19th $1000 Scholarship for minority students of African American Descent graduation from a public Carroll County high school. Un weighted GPA 2.5 or higher, accepted in a college, university, or certified trade school full time, active in school/community activities. Angie M. Houtz Memorial Fund Scholarship available to students based on academic achievements and community service background. GPA 3.0, accepted to attend a public two or four year college, must have participated in at least 200 hours of community service in the last 5 years. 1

2 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS Timothy J. Atkinson Memorial Scholarship $1000 Scholarship to a student who intends to enter a field that will assist or advocate for people with disabilities. Must be accepted for admission or be currently attending as a full-time student at an a credited college or university in pursuit of a related degree. Carroll Hospital Center Health Career Scholarships $1000 Scholarship - Two letters of recommendation, letter of college acceptance, descriptive essay completing the statement I have chosen to pursue a career in Health Care because. Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Graduating senior who will attend Carroll Community College as a full time student majoring in business administration, economics, accounting, human resources development or other business related courses. Carroll County Association for Family and Community Education Two $500 scholarships to June graduates based on need, academic standing, and extracurricular activities. William J. Byrd Music Scholarship Providing financial assistance to a CC High School graduate or community college student wishing to minor in Jazz Studies at McDaniel College. Criteria include: enrolled CC student at least 1 year prior to applying, exhibit interest and aptitude for instrumental music, complete application and provide all requested information. Joseph J. Fox Memorial Scholarship DEADLINE April 15 TH Two $1,000 awards to MD high school graduates majoring in reading-related field and pursuing coursework that will prepare him/her for a teaching career. GPA 3.2 or higher, community service in education-related activities or organizations. Visit the website at Celebrate Youth Scholarship Scholarship(s) will be awarded each year to students who meet the following criteria: must be a resident of Carroll County, a graduating senior, been accepted at post-secondary institution, maintained GPA of 3.25 or higher, shown outstanding citizenship traits and have been involved in student service activities and extra-curricular activities in Carroll County during their high school career. 2

Graybeal Scholarship Scholarship awarded to high school students pursuing post-graduate students in general history or a specialty area of studies in history to include: museums, archival, library, historic preservation, material culture, American studies, archaeology, anthropology, art history or preservation technology. Student must exhibit exemplary character and have maintained high academic standards, demonstrate diverse interests, with special interests in the areas of Humanities or Science, exhibit extra-curricular, volunteer, work experience in some related area. Charles W. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund DEADLINE APRIL 15th All applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above for the entire school year, shown outstanding citizenship traits. Students enrolled in Engineering courses at the Carroll Career and Technology Center will be given special consideration. Carroll Players One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Carroll County student who plans to pursue the dramatic arts in college. The student does not have to become a Drama major, he or she must plan on using the dramatic arts in his or her chosen field of study.drama teacher, stage craft, drama therapy etc. Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Scholarship Program applicants must have Fire/EMS service affiliation, be a relative of a bona fide volunteer or paid Firefighter/EMS in a member company of the CC Volunteer Emergency Services Association. Must have at least 2.5 GPA, and acceptance or enrollment in MD College. New Windsor Lions Club $1000 Scholarship to a graduating senior from the New Windsor Middle School attendance area. Scholarship based on grades, service to school and community, personal qualities, need, effort, and participation in extra-curricular activities. Megan Lynn Rippeon Memorial Scholarship A graduating senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in early childhood education at an accredited college or university. Maintained a GPA of 3.0 for his/her high school career and have college worthy SAT scores and have demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in early childhood education. Danele Shipley Scholarship Scholarship awarded to Carroll County students who have been accepted at a post-secondary educational institution, maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above for entire high school career, shown outstanding citizenship traits and be involved in student service activities and extra-curricular activities, and when all other factors are considered equal, consideration will be given to those who have demonstrated financial need. 3

4 Taneytown Lions Club Scholarship Terra Rubra Lions Club Scholarship Students will need to provide a transcript and an essay of 500 words or less telling about you, your history of service, your plans for the future, and why you feel you are deserving of this scholarship. Stephen E. Toop Scholarship Scholarship awarded to FSK or WHS graduating senior who has been accepted at an accredited college, university or technical school. Criteria include financial need, student s character, leadership, and contributions to school and community, and Scott E. Shipley Career & Technology Scholarship Scholarship awarded to graduating senior who attends high school in Carroll County and attained their secondary diploma from CCCTC in Diesel Technology. Student must be accepted into institute of higher learning to continue studies in diesel technology. Award based on financial need, student character and contributions to school and community. Must submit letter or recommendation from CCCTC and an essay on why they want to pursue a career in diesel technology. Selection will be based on: need, academic standing and extracurricular and community activities. Carroll County Arts Council Tevis College Arts Scholarship DEADLINE April 20th $750 Scholarship for a high school graduate pursuing a degree in the arts. Award based on artistic promise and financial need. 4

5 Gram s Promise DEADLINE April 25th Scholarship available to seniors for their activism and leadership among their peers in the fight against tobacco use. Seniors who are tobacco-free and have demonstrated a commitment to anti-smoking advocacy are encouraged to apply. Former Students and Friends of Robert Moton School DEADLINE April 25th 2 Scholarships available The George M. Crawford Scholarship $3,000 Former Students and Friends of Robert Moton $2,000 Offered to African-American students graduating from a Carroll County High School. GPA, high school transcript, a letter of recommendation, and a signed letter discussing your career interests and why you should be considered for the scholarship. Don Seibel Memorial Scholarship $1000 for 4 years available to FSK students who will be attending college planning to study Education. Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5, have held a leadership position within school or community and must have been involved in extracurricular activities. a 500 word essay on career and personal goals. West Carroll Recreation Council Scholarship A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior who has actively participated and/or volunteered in the West Carroll Recreation Council. Criteria: GPA of 3.5 or higher through-out high school years up to 1 st semester, volunteered for 3 years beginning with 5 th grade planning to become a full time student in a program offered by an organization that has been accredited for the purpose by a state educational authority. FSK Athletic Boosters 2014 Scholarship DEADLINE May 9th Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to one Senior Boy and one Senior Girl who has participated in two sports per year for all four years at Key. He/she must have a Weighted GPA of 3.75, non weighted GPA
