21 Microsoft Cloud Centers Coming Online Client Server News July Microsoft threw the switch on its new mega data center in Dublin on July 1 and expects to do same for the one it's built in Chicago on July 20. The facilities are meant to support the company's Online, Live and cloud services. Dublin is Microsoft's first mega site outside the US. It covers 303,000 square feet capable of 5.4 megawatts of power now on its way to 22.2 megawatts with demand. The Chicago site covers 700,00 square feet, the size of 16 football fields, with 30 megawatts to start and capable of 60 megawatts. Two-thirds of the place is optimized for containerized servers, which Microsoft says conserve energy. Each of the prepackaged containers holds 1,800-2,500 servers.
