Welcome to the Institute of Leadership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Here, our mission is to develop excellent leaders and managers so that patients receive the best healthcare possible. The Institute is Ireland s only third level institution dedicated exclusively to developing the leadership and management competencies of health professionals. The RCSI has educated leaders in the health professions for over 220 years and the Institute builds on this tradition by developing the healthcare leaders of tomorrow. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, scientists, allied health professionals, researchers and administrators take our courses. They work in hospitals, community based healthcare systems, government agencies, academic and research institutions or pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical devices companies. Over 1200 health professionals have graduated from the Institute. We are very proud of the fact that many of our graduates have been promoted into senior positions where they now apply what they have learned with us to improving the care of patients. Whilst the Institute is an accredited academic institution, we maintain close connections with the worlds of healthcare delivery and higher education. Our programmes are flexible, responsive and practical and use a blended learning approach that allows our students to progress their studies while continuing their professional careers. Improving one s leadership and management capability is seen as integral to this. Because healthcare is now so complex and changing so rapidly, health professionals must be capable of contributing to the ongoing development of their organisations. Module 3: Evaluation, Measurement & Research (10 ECTS) Evaluate the core concepts and principles of healthcare evaluation, measurement and research including frameworks, approaches, strategies and tools to support effective and efficient healthcare implementation and their application to your area of practice. Investigate the principles and requirements of evidence-based practice. Module 6: Quality & Risk Management (10 ECTS) Examine the core evidence-based concepts and principles of healthcare quality, risk and patient safety through critical review of best practice frameworks, strategies and tools and their application to your area of practice.

In collaboration with your manager and supervisor, you will select a project designed to produce a positive outcome for your organisation. You will use your learning from Year 1, together with that from a series of Year 2 seminars dealing with change. ASSESSMENT Case studies, individual and team assignments, presentations, reports, posters, reflections, exams and an action research project. You will be supported through this process by your supervisor and by a series of Action Learning Sets in which you will work with a small group of your classmates in a mutually supportive environment. The project draws heavily on your learning and provides you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you acquire to a real situation. As such, it reflects the practical philosophy of the Institute which seeks to integrate theory and practice for the benefit of patients.

Our current projects which focus on the community include: Africa: Council of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). Provision of training and development for surgeons in 10 Sub-Saharan countries to enable them to develop the infrastructure for surgical training. Ireland: Future Nurse Leaders Programme: Commissioned by the National Leadership and Innovation Centre for Nursing and Midwifery and delivered with the Health Service Executive of Ireland this programme provides a leadership development programme for the Directors and Assistant Directors of Nursing & Midwifery. 19 RCSI INSTITUTE OF LEADERSHIP, PROSPECTUS FOR HOSTED PROGRAMMES, BAHRAIN 17 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS ADMISSIONS CRITERIA AND PROCESSES Overview The RCSI Institute of Leadership MSc Programmes are recognised by the Higher Education Council (HEC) in the Kingdom of Bahrain and are hosted at the RCSI Bahrain Campus. They are also accredited by the National University of Ireland (NUI). The NUI is an Irish government institution that accredits universities and is recognised internationally. Gaining Attestation of your High/Secondary School Certificate and Transcripts 1. If your certificate and transcripts are issued from a high/ secondary school outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, you will be required to get a copy attested with original stamps from: (a) The Bahrain Embassy in the country of issue. (b) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of issue. 2. If your certificate and transcripts are issued from a high/ secondary school in the Kingdom of Bahrain you will be required to provide the following: (a) If from a government school: Originals of six-page transcript, along with the cover sheet. (b) If from a private school: Attestation of the transcript and graduation certificate by the appropriate Embassy for the curriculum studied. Please note: After obtaining the attestation of the certificate and transcripts, attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also be required. 3. If you submit attested copies of your certificate and transcripts with original stamps on them we will liaise on your behalf with the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain to obtain your equivalency certificate. Degree Applicants must have an appropriate primary degree. English Proficiency Requirement All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide us with an English Proficiency Test Results. A result of 5.5 in the IELTS test or equivalent score form another standardized approved test. Pease note that English proficiency tests are valid for two years after they are taken. Your results must be in date and your name must be on the database of the relevant testing organization at the time of application. If you do not have a test result sheet then you will be required to make an appointment for the test and provide us with proof of the test date appointment. Your test results must be submitted before the beginning of Semester 2. How can I apply to the RCSI Institute of Leadership? 1. Currently there is one intake per year. Duration of the Programme The MSc Programmes can be completed in a minimum of two academic years. An administrative fee will also apply. Participants who successfully complete the first year of our MSc programme and are unable to continue with their studies, can exit with an internationally recognised Postgraduate Diploma. Programme Design All MSc Programmes are modular. In Year 1 there are six taught modules. In Year Two participants complete a change management project in their workplaces and this is worth three modules. Year Two projects are supported by seminars, workshops, tutorials and facilitation sessions. Year Two interactions are held only one day a month.
