2 INSTITUTE OF LEADERSHIP WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR The Institute of Leadership is Ireland s only third level institution dedicated exclusively to developing the leadership, management and educational capacity of health professionals and their organisations. Here at the Institute we believe that excellent management skills can be developed and that leadership is something that can be learned. We also believe, that in order to improve patient care, we must develop organisations in which leadership is widely distributed. Our typical course participant is proactive, open to exploring new ways of learning and thinking and is keen to learn from, and share, their experience with others. He or she is motivated to develop themselves and their organisations in order to improve the delivery of healthcare to patients, families and communities.
