2 COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking and web design technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. The processes of designing and maintaining a Web site will be covered as the student develops personal web pages. CAREER PREPARATION STANDARDS/EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS 2 I. ORIENTATION A. Compare the features of software and hardware firewalls and discuss the importance of using and updating virus protection software. J. Discuss the various plug-ins that enhance browser features and how to download and install them. L. Demonstrate downloading and saving of images and multi-media from the Internet. M. Explain and demonstrate how to save a web page to study its underlying structure. 4 VIII. WEB PAGE BASICS A. Identify and use the basic software requirements needed to write and display HyperText Markup Languague (HTML) code. B. Investigate and compare the various tools offered by service providers to help analyze the traffic content of a site (who is viewing the pages, which elements are being viewed most often) and describe how these statistics can help improve a site's appeal. 5 XVIII.
