Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program Thoughts for the CIO BYOD Players BYOD Summary 3

What is driving this movement to BYOD? Consumerization of Mobility and IT Macro-economic downturn and search for cost savings Proliferation of devices in total and devices per employee Mobile device capabilities and dependence Employees work modes and lifestyle demands New mobile applications & mobilizing existing applications 4

Thoughts from Ovum Enterprise Research 1 Finding Around one third of the companies we interviewed say their preferred model is for employees to provide their own devices and reclaim costs through expenses. This is the dominant model in India and Russia. Recommendation for service providers Bring-your-own-device is a growing trend and an issue for enterprises of all sizes in all markets, even those with a strong corporate device policy. In emerging markets this is the dominant procurement model by default. Operators should recognize this trend and make sure their device management capabilities and partnerships expand to reflect this trend. 5

Thoughts from Ovum Enterprise Research 2 Finding The trend towards use of smartphones and tablet PCs is reflected in companyprovided devices, but penetration growth is much slower than in the consumer market. This finding is unsurprising given the need of IT departments to manage and support these devices, particularly when they are connected to the company network and require access to business applications. Recommendation for service providers Service providers should ensure that they can provide device management capability and support for IT managers who may find the pace of change in the device market unsettling and are slow to adopt new devices. Service providers also need to make corporate tariff plans more transparent the adoption of smartphones is inhibited by fear of data charges for many companies. 6

Thoughts from Ovum Enterprise Research 3 Finding Currently BlackBerry devices still dominate the smartphone fleets of large companies. These were primarily introduced to deliver to the mobile workforce and in some enterprises now support other business applications too. There is a trend towards Android (particularly) and ios, and this migration is fastest in developed markets, although slow compared to consumer trends. Recommendation for service providers Operators need to ensure that their device management offers and partnerships evolve to meet corporate users changing device needs. The trends towards consumerization coupled with increased adoption of smartphones and big screen devices will represent an opportunity for service providers to provide cloud-based mobile enterprise applications. 7

Survey data company policy for mobile devices Multi-country survey, 600 respondents 13% 31% 56% Company provides device Employees are reimbursed Neither 8

Survey data company policy for mobile devices Considerable regional differences USA Europe China India Russia Company provides device Employees are reimbursed Neither Brazil ANZ 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% 9

Corporate device trends The major trend in the mobile industry as a whole is towards use of smartphones and tablet PCs. Our research shows that, while these trends are reflected in company-provided devices, penetration growth is slower than in the consumer market. Our findings are that Average device penetration is high Basic mobile phones still dominate enterprise device fleets The biggest trend is towards smartphones (at the expense of standard phones) Enterprises expect growth in number of big screen devices, although growth in laptops is expected to be higher than growth in ipads & other tablets. 11

Conflicting visions for mobility The personal mobile: the mobile device as a tool for personal fulfilment Personal address book and calendar Digital still and video camera Media player Games console Personal navigation system Barcode scanner Exercise manager Wallet and banking terminal Social network tool Book The work mobile: the mobile device as an enterprise productivity tool Reachability and responsiveness of staff Business applications on the mobile incl. and PIM CRM field force management logistics,/supply chain management Part of the IT infrastructure Access to corporate data Should be integrated Personal Open Experimental Standardized Secure Locked down 12

Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program Thoughts for the CIO BYOD Players BYOD Summary 13

The new world of work Day extending Anywhere Any time Any how! Working on the train Working from home Corridor cruising Working & parenting 24-hour organisations Hot desking Working in airports Working in cafes Multi-tasking Mobile communications has facilitated, and grown out of, a huge cultural change in the world of work 14

A fuzzy boundary between life and work Facebook Work Personal Collaborating Life Shopping Sharing files Work Is this life? Online games Personal calls Business calls Is this work? Lots of points of friction Unhappy users, unhappy managers Boundaries are being redrawn 15

BYOD Policy & Program Thoughts Traditional Lock-down is not an acceptable or sustainable model Devices are growing but more importantly the devices per employee and applications are also proliferating. Employees are becoming more mobile and work is now an activity untethered to the work place. C levels are bringing in devices and demanding access to corporate resources. Consumerization is overtaking IT including mobility Enterprise budgets are under pressure and CIOs are looking for ways to lower overall expenses in mobility. Employees paying for their own devices AND using self-service lower overall corporate costs for mobility. 16

Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Thoughts for the CIO Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program BYOD Players BYOD Summary 17

Cisco BYOD Program Major Elements Program: All employees pay for the device from an authorized list of devices Cisco pays for approved service level with different plans based by position/department Policy was developed based on iphone but includes all devices and all employees Differences by region and country Three levels of end user support including self-service 18

Cisco BYOD Program Key Learnings Be careful with employee segmentation, policy and thoughtful plan Separate the device from services; this allows technology enthusiasts Take advantage of tiered and varied service plans Leverage the self-service model (e.g. Wiki, communities of interest) Phone/voice call is becoming least important to users and the cost impact Global policy and regional/country differences add complexity to the plan. 19

Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program Thoughts for the CIO BYOD Players BYOD Summary 20

The BYOD Gap BYOD Gap Actual point of enterprise entry Number of users Mobile device adoption curve What this gap means is that IT has been unable to centrally drive adoption of mobile devices within the organization. Early adopters Normal point of enterprise entry Rate of adoption There is also large variance of the unknown corporate users e.g. access with native Outlook clients. 21

BYOD Challenges - Lifecycle Management J. Doe Role: Account Manager Corporate Services None J. Doe Role: Director Corporate Services VPN, Wi- Fi, Exchange 2010, Enterprise App Store 1 J. Doe securely enrolls device using AirWatch J. Doe Role: Account Manager 4 J. Doe Role: Account Manager J. Doe loses device AirWatch removes access to corporate data and systems and remotely wipes the device 22

MNCs are moving towards BYOD Policies for employees with a need for mobility 100% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10% No devices issued or reimbursed Employees are reimbursed, but no support Employees are reimbursed and supported Company issues devices 0% Now 2 years 23

Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program Thoughts for the CIO BYOD Players BYOD Summary 24

BYOD changes the game for all players CIOs Give up on the lock-down model and buying all devices; embrace BYOD policy Focus on application access management (not devices) Operators Develop service partners and MDM relationships that support BYOD Increase focus on service plans and dual personas for personal/work split MDM Vendors Provide device management for a mix of BYOD program options Increased speed of device support and management of new devices 25

BYOD changes the game for all players (Continued) PBX/Voice Providers Mobility and BYOD options need to be offered Multi-device, multi-operator support required Device Manufacturers Devices need the support for dual personas BYOD use Management features need to consider increasing BYOD options and features Employees Provide input into the BYOD policy and program beyond just devices Understand your rights as employee and understand proper corporate use HR and Legal will be involved as well! 26

Agenda Mobility Trends Work-life modes Thoughts for the CIO Lessons from the Cisco BYOD program BYOD Players BYOD Summary 27

Summary - Thoughts and Future View BYOD Deployment and access is way beyond policy and systems Policy and Privacy have many dimensions device, country, application and MDM providers will need more comprehensive systems and adapt to the everchanging technology devices, applications, service plans Operators will support multiple devices, multiple OS and go beyond their own network The model of CL and IL may be completely replaced by BYOD in the next two years. BYOD will expand beyond mobile devices and start to include all remote access devices laptops, PCs, tablets. The role of CIO will expand into business policy, HR and corporate governance 28
