2 Get Started Log In To Just About Everything with Your StarID Your StarID serves as your login for essential services at Minnesota State Mankato such as E-services, MavMAIL, wireless Internet, D2L Brightspace, and more. Make sure you remember it and keep your password secure. Need to change your password or want more information on StarID? Visit mnsu.edu/starid Wireless Internet Access MavNET is Minnesota State Mankato s campus-wide wireless network. To log in, enter your StarID and password when prompted after selecting MavNET-Encrypted (the most secure network) on your computer or other wireless device. For additional setup instructions, visit mnsu.edu/its/mavnet Internet Access in the Residence Halls Wired and wireless Internet access is available in every residence hall room, and wireless access is available in all public areas of the residence halls. 3 Check Your Campus Often Students will receive important information on classes, financial aid, direct deposit and other University notifications via their campus , MavMAIL. You can access your MavMAIL through the web-based client and use your StarID to log in. Once you queue up a document for print, just sign onto any MavPRINT release station and start printing. Each student is allocated $20.00 each semester (or about 400 black & white pages) for printing needs. 4 Get Alerts Emergency Text Message Alerts: Star Alert Star Alert is our Emergency Notification System. It allows campus community members to receive text and notifications in the event of campus-related emergencies. A Star Alert message will briefly state the location and nature of the emergency, and may include a specific action to take. Star Alert will also be used to notify you if campus is closed or if classes are delayed or canceled. You will be prompted to sign up for this optin service after you sign into E-services, or you can subscribe by changing your campus account manually at mnsu.edu/password. Passwords: Longer is Stronger Passphrases are short sentences or combinations of unrelated words that seem random to a computer but make sense to you. 6 Get Access Computer Access for Students The Academic Computer Center (ACC) offers computer access to students. More than 400 computers are available to use in the main lab located at 117 Wissink Hall, with another 450 computers across campus in specialized satellite labs. Machines are equipped with the latest hardware and software applications, and student helpers are available to assist you. For a list of ACC lab locations, hours of operation, and available software, visit acc.mnsu.edu/mainlab When you visit Memorial Library, you ll see computers on every floor. Some are restricted for searches, but others are available for your use on school projects or Internet research. Check out the Library s website for more information at lib.mnsu.edu D2L Brightspace D2L Brightspace is an online learning management system used at Minnesota State Mankato. Whether a course is taken online or face-to-face, D2L Brightspace is used to deliver content and supplemental materials. D2L Brightspace also includes tools for discussions, announcements, assignments, quizzes, and grades. 7 Get Software Free Software for Students In addition to Office 365 in the Cloud, enrolled students can download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus and a host of other software for free! It s fast, easy, and available on a variety of platforms. Get started at mnsu.edu/its/student_software Office 365 Services for YOU! Microsoft Office 365 is a suite of Cloud-hosted tools that allow students to access a variety of software from any device as long as an Internet connection is available. There are no installations or updates involved just log into the service with your StarID and password.
