Most of the services available at the university (such as ISIS, ICON, or university ) are accessed with your HawkID and passphrase. Healthcare users may have an additional Healthcare ID that can be used to access applications such as Epic, Healthcare workstations, or Healthcare accounts Your HawkID Password/Passphrase Because of the sensitive and personal material that you access with your HawkID, it is very important that you are the only person who knows your passphrase If you suspect that someone knows your passphrase, the best solution is to change your passphrase immediately to avoid security issues To help secure your account, ITS encourages you to change your passphrase often Provide passphrase hints by selecting questions and providing answers that only you will know. Doing this gives you the ability reset your password at any time at 6 HawkID
8 Forgotten Passphrase Service If you forget your HawkID passphrase, you can reset it yourself as long as you have provided hints ahead of time. No password hints? Call the ITS Help Desk at (4-HELP) to have your password reset over the phone. Password vs. Passphrase The purpose of passwords and passphrases is to provide access to secure services or sensitive information; however, passwords are generally short, hard to remember and easy to crack. Passphrases are easier to remember and type, are considered more secure due to the length, and shouldn t need to be written down. Here are some Make up a sentence or a phrase that includes a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and punctuation Iowa winters are cold would not be an acceptable passphrase as it does not include numbers or punctuation Iowa w1nters are c0ld! meets minimum complexity requirements in addition to having a secure length of nine or more characters HawkID 7
