Technology at Lasell College At Lasell, you will be joining a community of people devoted to using technology to support learning and collaboration in your areas of interest and program of study. This guide provides information to help you navigate Lasell technology and contact information for assistance. Student Policies for Digital Community A copy of the Lasell Acceptable Use of Information Technology Systems can be found in the Student Handbook and in the Information Technology site on MyLasell in the IT Policies folder. Lasell User ID All students are provided with a unique User ID and password which provides access to campus computers, MyLasell as well as many other Lasell systems. You should have received Lasell User ID and Password from the Graduate or Undergraduate Department of Admission. The standard Lasell naming convention for User IDs joins the first initial of the first name with the last name (User IDs exceeding 20 characters will be shortened. Typically hyphenations will be dropped from last names and only the last name to the left of the hyphen will be used. If duplicates occur, your middle initial is generally added to resolve ambiguity. Lasell User ID Password Your original password will be auto- generated by the system. You must change your password the first time you log onto the network.! Passwords are intended to help prevent unauthorized access to your account and may not be shared. Reset Password To change your password because it expired or because you forgot it, visit and click on Reset your password. Complete the required information. Enter Student if asked for the Domain name.! Note: All entries for Date of Birth must be entered in the format of: MM/DD/YYYY! International students should contact the Technology Help Desk to receive a number they can use in place of a SSN in this system. Student Technology Survival Guide

3 ? How to Select a Password Passwords must be at least 8 characters and include at least one number. You may not reuse a password. Your User ID cannot be a part of your password as access to your account will not accept a password that contains any portion of your User ID. Password Expiration For security purposes, Lasell passwords expire every 180 days. You must change your password before it expires. If your password has expired, reset it as outlined above. When your password is about to expire, the system will automatically send notifications. Unlock Account If you attempt to logon to campus computers, MyLasell, or other Lasell systems with an incorrect password more than four times, you will be locked out of all these systems. You can visit at any time to regain access. Enter Student if asked for the Domain Name.! 30 minutes after your account is locked out it will automatically unlock. Additional incorrect attempts will reset the 30 minute period. MyLasell (College Portal) MyLasell is the online gateway to resources and services for the Lasell community. You will find: academic links, activities, housing information, technology, your Student link and much more. You can access MyLasell at When logging into MyLasell, please always use your full User ID including Some of the resources available on MyLasell are: " Announcements: General announcements to all students will not be sent to students , but are always posted to the Announcements section of MyLasell. Messages of critical importance will be sent directly to students and emergency alerts to cell phones. " Emergency Notification System: The Lasell College Text Message Alert System is a mass notification system that enables the college community to receive text alerts and updates in the event of an emergency, class cancellation or school closing. If you are having trouble receiving the alerts, please contact Public Safety at " Events Calendar: The Events Calendar is a centralized College calendar for athletic events, student events, campus- wide events and college- wide academic deadlines. " Self- Service: Self- Service is a system designed to provide students access to course listings, student advising information, unofficial transcripts, viewing grades, and account finances. " Moodle: Moodle is a learning management system for faculty to deliver course materials, collect assignments and communicate with students. Student Technology Survival Guide

4 Microsoft Office 365 Lasell College is the primary form of communication for students and you are responsible for reading your regularly. Your Microsoft Outlook account is accessed by logging into MyLasell and clicking on the Student button. Use your User ID and password for your Microsoft Office Features Create and store documents via the OneDrive Web video conferencing Enhanced security and spam filtration 25Gb storage space Smartphone and Tablet Setup (Android, iphone and Blackberry) # Server Name: m.outlook.com OR pod51004.outlook.com # Username: Typically User ID when in doubt try either # Use SSL # Use Exchange or Corporate Sync account type # Domain: Student Lasell Wireless Network The College s wireless network is made up of over 200 Wireless Access Points and covers 100% of resident halls, public meeting spaces, both quads as well as 90% of the rest of the campus,. To connect to the wireless network your PC laptop s operating system must be updated with necessary patches and you must have updated anti- virus software and the Bradford Persistent Agent (provided by Lasell), a program that checks for current antivirus programs and security updates. all Prior to connecting to the Lasell network please do the following: Windows: Make sure you have up- to- date antivirus protection installed on your computer. You can download free antivirus protection from: Run all Windows updates. Go to Start - > All Programs - > Windows Updates. Run all updates, reboot and check again until no updates remain. Make sure Java is up to date. If present, run the updater from the lower right hand corner of the screen. Mac: Run all OSX updates. Go to Apple - > Software Update. Run all updates, reboot and check again until no updates remain. Make sure you have up- to- date antivirus protection installed on your computer. 5 ! Mac computers do not require this utility however we recommend downloading Sophos Antivirus Home Edition from the web.! If you have an expired antivirus software subscription Uninstall expired virus protection software. Install free antivirus protection and run a Full Scan. Register your device The first time you connect to the Lasell wireless network, you will be required to register your device through our brand new Lasell NAC portal. connect to the new system, you will want to select the Lasell as the wireless network on your device. You must then open a web browser and follow the prompts to register your device. You will need to have valid Lasell College network credentials in order to register your device. Once you register a device, you won t have to register it again. To! Please note: wired connections in the dorms will also be required to be registered with the Lasell NAC The Lasell Wi- Fi QuickStart Guide can be found in the Wireless Network folder of the Information Technology site on MyLasell.! Please note: personal wireless printers, Chromecasts and some features of Apple TV s are not supported. Lasell Public Network Printers Each semester Lasell provides students with a free $30 printing account for use in classroom, lab, and public printers on campus. The cost of printing is auto- deducted from this free account. B/W Double Sided B/W Single Sided Color Single Sided Color Posters $0.07 per page $0.10 per page $0.25 per page $4.00 per standard poster Students can also obtain balance information by clicking on the green icon in the lower right corner of any public computer. Once the student s $30 allocation is used, the student can add money to the account at the Technology Help Desk. Gaming The Lasell wireless and wired network provides students the ability to use their computers and gaming systems to play over the Internet. For any device to connect to the Lasell wireless network, you will be required to register your device through the Lasell NAC portal at Student Technology Survival Guide

6 Trouble Gaming? If you are experiencing trouble with your game connecting to the Internet, the Technology Help Desk and include your game console MAC address in the . How to Find Your MAC Address instructions can be found on Information Technology site on MyLasell in the Gaming folder. Wireless Printing Wireless printing is available on select printers throughout the campus to students using their personal devices. Printing fees are automatically deducted from your account. From your Laptop Students can print wirelessly from their laptops to the library and designated public printers by selecting the WebPrint link on MyLasell.! Please note that personal wireless printers are not supported by our network. From your Smart Device Students can print directly from a cell phone or tablet to Lasell printers. Apple devices need only click Print to locate and print to a Lasell printer. Android users must download the EFI PrinteMe Mobile app available through Google Play Comcast Cable for TV Cable TV is available in all residence hall rooms and common areas without charge. Students must provide their own TV and a coaxial cable to connect the TV to the cable port on the wall. A copy of the Lasell s Comcast Channel Lineup for the Academic Year is distributed by Residential Life on move- in day and can be found in the Information Technology site on MyLasell in the IT Cable Folder. There are 85+ channels including 17 in HD.! Lasell has its own TV channel on your cable lineup. Students can tune in to Channel 73 for the latest News, Weather and Sports as well as live broadcasts from Lasell College Radio. Comcast Xfinity on Campus Comcast XFINITY on Campus provides access to 85+ live streaming channels, XFINITY on Demand and Premium channels on your computer or smart device connected to the Lasell Network. This service is available to students residing on campus and is only available through the Lasell network. Instructions for connecting your device can be found in the Cable TV folder on the MyLasell Technology site. Campus Computer Labs and There are over 200 Windows PC and Mac computers available for the use by Lasell College students in public spaces and labs located in the and across campus. 7 Lasell College students are welcome to use the computer labs whenever they are open and not used for classes. Do not save work to the desktop of Lasell computers at any time. The public computers are cleaned on an auto- scheduled basis and the files that are deleted cannot be retrieved. To save your Microsoft Office document, click on File then select Save and Send. Select recipient and send to yourself. Assistive Learning Technology The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) has a variety of assistive computer programs and systems (voice recognition, text to speech and specialized keyboards for note taking) available to the Lasell Community. These systems are useful for students with learning challenges, but could benefit all students. Please contact the AAC at to learn more. Student Technology Survival Guide

9 Multimedia Equipment to Borrow The College has multimedia equipment available to students for college- related purposes. This equipment, available for loan at the Technology Help Desk on the lower level of includes digital cameras, video cameras, and voice- recorders. Equipment loan is on a first come, first serve basis and equipment can be taken out for a period of three days. Voice Systems in Resident Halls While most students rely on their personal cell phones, Lasell College can provide students with a personal telephone line in their residence upon request. Telephone services include free calls within the 617 area code. For calls outside the 617 area code you will need to purchase a long distance calling card. These cards can be purchased on campus at Barnes and Noble Book Store and off- campus at most convenience stores. The college does not supply telephones so we recommend that you purchase a simple touch- tone analog phone with voic . Residents in Bragdon, Butterworth, East, West, North, Van Winkle, Campus Center, Rockwell, and Forest residences must use IP phones. There is a rental fee of $100 for the academic year to borrow an IP phone. Contact the Technology Help Desk: helpdesk@lasell.edu to request IP phones. Technology Help Desk When you have a question or need technical support you'll find friendly, expert advice at the Technology Help Desk. Staff members are available during business hours to help you with Microsoft resources such as , Word, Moodle Learning Management System or the MyLasell portal. You can also get help connecting your laptop, tablet, smartphone, cable TV or gaming system to the Lasell network. Our phone support extends past our business hours providing student IT emergency services 24/7. This emergency support covers system outage response and assistance with problems that prevent you from completing your academic work. We monitor our (helpdesk@lasell.edu) and chat lines ( during our normal operational schedule covering over 90 hours a week onsite and in person. Our walk- in center is located in the lower level of the library and is open the hours listed above. Student- Owned Equipment Repairs Lasell s Information Technology Department is able to assist with many questions including malware problems, and hardware diagnostics. We are not able to take full responsibility for repair of student- owned computer hardware failures and major operational malfunctions. For major hardware failures we recommend you take your computer and printer to Systems Analysis Services (SAS) in Auburndale for these services. SAS is available to repair personal computers and equipment for a fee. SAS repair facility is located at 335 Auburn Street. Office hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. You can contact SAS at (617) and their web address is Computer Purchases Discounts from Dell, Apple and Lenovo are available to Lasell College students from the following sites: or or Green Campus Please help us make a green campus at Lasell by turning off your computer and printer when you are not using them, turning on energy power management, purchase energy efficient equipment, and think before you print.
