7 Intrductins Intrductins Prduct Overview, RC-E The RC-E recrder, part f Ocularis ES, is a fully distributed slutin, designed fr large multi-site and multiple server installatins requiring 24/7 surveillance, with supprt fr devices frm different vendrs. The slutin ffers centralized management f all devices, servers, and users, and empwers an extremely flexible rule system driven by schedules and events. While Ocularis cntains multiple cmpnents, RC-E als cntains its wn cmpnents. RC-E cnsists f the fllwing main elements: The management server - the center f yur installatin (RC-E Server) One r mre recrding servers (RC-E Recrder) One r mre Management Clients (RC-Manager),which are unlicensed and can be dwnladed and installed fr free (as many times as needed). A Dwnlad Manager Finally, RC-E handles an unlimited number f cameras, servers, and users acrss multiple sites if required. Abut Updates OnSSI regularly release service updates fr ur prducts, ffering imprved functinality and supprt fr new devices. If yu are an RC-E system administratr, it is recmmended that yu check the OnSSI website fr updates at regular intervals in rder t make sure yu are using the mst recent versin f RC-E. The RC-E Server (Management Server) What? Stres the surveillance system's cnfiguratin in a relatinal database, either n the management server cmputer itself r n a separate SQL Server n the netwrk. Als handles user authenticatin, user rights, etc. T enhance system perfrmance, several management servers can be run under OnSSI Federated Architecture (see "OnSSI Federated Architecture Overview" n page 173). Where? Runs as a service, and is typically installed n a dedicated server. What is prvided with the management server? When installing the management server if yu select Typical Management Server Installatin (see "Typical" n page 16), yu will als install: The lg server What? Prvides the necessary functinality fr lgging infrmatin frm yur RC-E installatin. Where? Usually installed n the same server as the management server and runs as a service. 8 Intrductins The RC-E Recrding Server What? Used fr recrding vide and fr cmmunicating with cameras and ther devices. In large installatins, mre than ne recrding server is ften used n the surveillance system. Failver servers can be set up t take ver if a recrding server becmes temprarily unavailable. Where? Recrding servers as well as failver servers run as services, and are typically installed n separate servers rather than n the management server itself. The What? Feature-rich administratin client fr cnfiguratin and day-t-day management f the system. Available in several languages. Where? Typically installed n the surveillance system administratr's wrkstatin r similar. The Dwnlad Manager What? Lets surveillance system administratrs manage which RC-E -related cmpnents yur rganizatin's users will be able t access frm a targeted web page generated by the management server. Where? 9 Intrductins System Requirements IMPORTANT: RC-E n lnger supprts Micrsft Windws XP (hwever, clients can still be run/accessed frm cmputers with Windws XP Prfessinal). It is recmmended t have the Micrsft Active Directry (see " Manage Users and Grups " n page 145) in place befre yu install RC-E. If yu add the management server t the Active Directry after installing RC-E, yu must re-install the management server, and replace users with new users defined in the Active Directry. 10 Intrductins IMPORTANT: When frmatting the hard disk f a recrding/failver server device, it is imprtant t change its Allcatin unit size setting frm 4 t 64 kilbytes. This is t significantly imprve recrding perfrmance f the hard disk. Active Directry OnSSI RC-E users are nrmally added frm Active Directry, althugh users can als be added withut Active Directry. Active Directry is a distributed directry service included with several Windws Server perating systems; it identifies resurces n a netwrk in rder fr users r applicatins t access them. 11 Intrductins If wishing t add users thrugh the Active Directry service, a server with Active Directry installed, and acting as dmain cntrller, must be available n yur netwrk. Navigating the Built-in Help System Yu are always able t freely navigate between the help system's cntents. T d this, simply use the help windw's three tabs: Cntents, Search, and Glssary, r use the links inside the help tpics. Cntents Tab: Lets yu navigate the help system based n a tree structure. Many users will be familiar with this type f navigatin frm, fr example, Windws Explrer. T g straight t the help system's Cntents tab, click Cntents... buttn in the Management Client's tlbar. Search Tab: Lets yu search fr help tpics cntaining particular terms f interest. Fr example, yu can search fr the term zm and every help tpic cntaining the term zm will be listed in the search results. Clicking a help tpic title in the search results list will pen the required tpic. T g straight t the help system's Search tab, click the Search... buttn in the Management Client's tlbar. The actual cntent f each help tpic is displayed in the right pane f the help windw. Help tpic texts may cntain varius types f links, ntably s-called expanding drp-dwn links. Clicking an expanding drp-dwn link will display detailed infrmatin. The detailed infrmatin will be displayed immediately belw the link itself; the cntent n the page simply expands. Expanding drp-dwn links thus help save space. T print a help tpic, navigate t the required tpic and click the brwser's Print buttn. Tip: When printing a selected help tpic, the tpic will be printed as yu see it n yur screen. Therefre, if a tpic cntains expanding drp-dwn links, click each required drp-dwn link t display the text in rder fr it t be included in yur printut. On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. 11

12 Installatin and Remval Installatin and Remval Installatin Overview If upgrading frm a previus versin f RC-E, make sure yu read the upgrade infrmatin (see "Upgrade frm Previus Versin" n page 28). If yu plan t run OnSSI Federated Architecture (n page 173), make sure t read abut imprtant prerequisites. Yur RC-E installatin prcess begins with the installatin f the management server sftware. The management server is the center f yur RC-E installatin. It is typically installed n a dedicated server. See Management Server Installatin (see "Install Management Server" n page 13). Once the management server is installed, yu are able t install key cmpnents required by the management server: The recrding server, which is used fr recrding vide feeds, and fr cmmunicating with cameras and ther devices. The recrding server is typically installed n ne r mre separate cmputers, rather than n the management server itself. See Install System Cmpnents (n page 17). The management client, als knwn as the RC-E Manager, which is used fr cnfiguratin and day-t-day management f the system. The Management Client is typically installed n the system administratr's wrkstatin r similar. See Management Client Installatin (see "Management Client" n page 21). Tip: Vide device drivers (see "Manage and Remve Vide Device Drivers" n page 190) are installed autmatically during the initial installatin f yur RC-E system. Hwever, new versins f the drivers are released frm regularly and may be fund n the OnSSI website. As well n traditinal servers, installatin can als take place n virtualized servers. Installing RC-E n Virtual Servers As mentined, it is pssible t run all RC-E cmpnents n virtualized Windws servers, such as - fr example - VMware and Micrsft Hyper-V. Cntact yur IT department fr mre infrmatin. Tip: Virtualizatin is ften preferred t better utilize hardware resurces. Nrmally, virtual servers running n the hardware hst server d nt lad the virtual server t a great extent, and ften nt at the same time. Hwever, RC-E recrding servers recrd all cameras and streaming vide. This puts high lad n CPU, memry, netwrk, and strage system. Thus when run n a virtual server, the nrmal gain f virtualizatin disappears t a large extent, since - in many cases - it will use all available resurces. If run in a virtual envirnment, it is imprtant that the hardware hst has the same amunt f physical memry as allcated fr the virtual servers and that the virtual server running the recrding server is allcated enugh CPU and memry - which it is nt by default. Typically, the recrding server needs 2-4 GB depending n cnfiguratin. Anther bttleneck is netwrk adapter allcatin and hard disk perfrmance. Cnsider allcating a physical netwrk adapter n the hst server f the virtual server running the recrding server. This makes it easier t ensure that the netwrk adapter is nt verladed with traffic t ther virtual servers. If the netwrk adapter is used fr several virtual servers, the netwrk traffic might result in the recrding server nt retrieving and recrding the cnfigured amunt f images. 13 Installatin and Remval Install Management Server If upgrading frm a previus versin f RC-E, make sure yu read the upgrade infrmatin (see "Upgrade frm Previus Versin" n page 28). If yu plan t run OnSSI Federated Architecture, make sure t read abut imprtant prerequisites fr running OnSSI Federated Architecture (see "OnSSI Federated Architecture Overview" n page 173). Read the End User License Agreement n the Prduct License Sheet (enclsed with the sftware DVD) befre installing any part f RC-E. Yur RC-E installatin prcess begins with the installatin f the RC-E management server sftware. The management server is the center f yur OnSSI RC-E installatin. Prerequisites Windws Installer nly n Windws Server 2003 Befre installing RC-E, it is imprtant that yu install Windws Installer 4.5. Yu can dwnlad the Windws Installer 4.5 (see frm this link: (see SQL Server The management server requires access t a relatinal database. Later in this installatin prcess yu must chse between using an existing SQL Server n the netwrk (Administratr rights n the SQL Server are required) r setting up a SQL Server Express Editin (a lightweight, yet pwerful, versin f a full SQL server) n the management server cmputer itself. Whichever SQL slutin yu chse, make sure t have Micrsft.NET Framewrk 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed n the management server cmputer running the SQL Server Express Editin (even thugh Micrsft.NET Framewrk 4.0 is already installed) r the separate server running the existing SQL Server. See als System Requirements (n page 9). Which SQL Server type is right fr ur rganizatin? The SQL Server Express Editin is easy t install and prepare fr use, and will ften suffice fr systems with less than 500 cameras. Hwever, if yu plan t perfrm frequent/regular backups f yur database, using an existing SQL Server n the netwrk is recmmended (Administratr rights n the SQL Server are required). Fr large installatins, such as installatins with 500 cameras r mre, using an existing SQL Server n the netwrk is always recmmended. Windws Server 2003 Fix If yu use Windws Server 2003 it is recmmended t install this supprted fix (see fr Windws Server 2003 befre starting: (see Otherwise, the installatin f yur management server might fail due t Micrsft Windws Installer prcess having insufficient cntiguus virtual memry t verify that the.msi package r the.msp package is crrectly signed. The fllwing steps assume that Ocularis Base has already been installed and licensed and the Base Cmpnent Installatin web page is accessible frm the machine where the RC-E Management Server is t be installed. 14 Installatin and Remval Installing 1. Shut dwn any OnSSI sftware running. If upgrading, it is highly recmmended that yu remve any previus versins f the management server befre upgrading. Nte, hwever, that yu may nt want t remve the management server database, as it cntains yur RC-E cnfiguratin. 2. Frm the Base Cmpnent install page, ( Address f Base machine>/ocularisservice/installerwebsite/sysadmin.html), click the link fr the RC-E Event Prxy and Recrder bundle. 3. Chse t 'Run' the executable. 4. When the dwnlad and security scan is cmplete, an 'Installatin Wrapper' wizard screen appears. This wizard prmpts yu fr a lcatin t extract the installatin files nly. Verify r change the lcatin (drive and directry) t place the installatin file and click Next. 5. Once the files are extracted, yu will see a screen with checkbxes t Install RC-E Event Prxy and RC-E Recrder. Yu may elect t install ne, the ther r bth. In new and upgrade installatins it is recmmended t always install the Event Prxy. This installatin will check the system fr an existing prxy and, if fund, will walk yu thrugh the prcess f uninstalling the ld prxy and installing the new ne. Fr the Recrder, this refers t the RC-E recrder cmpnents as a whle. Fr new installatins, this bx shuld be checked. Fr upgrade installatins, see the Release Ntes fr special upgrade instructins. 6. Click Finish. 7. Fllw the wizard prmpts fr the Event Prxy installatin (if that checkbx was marked). 8. After the Event Prxy is installed, the RC-E Management Server files are extracted and a screen appears listing the steps invlved in the installatin: 9. Cmplete the steps utlined in the windw. Tip: Depending n what is already installed n the cmputer which is ging t act as management server, yu may nt need t cmplete all f the windw's three steps. The step that currently requires yur attentin will be highlighted. Tip: When the management server sftware is installed, yu are able t check the state f the management server by lking at the management server icn in the management server cmputer's ntificatin area. See Management Server Service and Recrding Server Service (n page 198) fr mre infrmatin. Step 1: Internet Infrmatin Services The RC-E Management Server Installatin autmatically detects if Internet Infrmatin Services (IIS) is already installed. If this step is nt available, it is simply because IIS is already installed. Internet Infrmatin Services includes a range f administrative features fr managing web servers and web applicatins, and is required in rder t run an OnSSI RC-E management server. If installing n a server running Windws 2008 Server, IIS is autmatically installed nce yu click the Internet Infrmatin Services step (shuld autmatic installatin fail, it is pssible t d installatin trubleshting (n page 30)). 1. On Windws Server 2003, clicking the Internet Infrmatin Services step pens Windws' built-in Windws Cmpnents wizard: 2. In the wizard's Cmpnents list, select Applicatin Server. 15 Installatin and Remval Click Details... and select Internet Infrmatin Services (IIS). 3. Click Details... and verify that all IIS subcmpnents are selected. Tip: It is a gd idea t have yur Windws installatin DVD ready; it may be required during the prcess. When IIS is installed, yu will be returned t the RC-E Management Server Installatin windw fr the next step f the installatin. Step 2: RC-E Management Server Database Befre cmpleting this step, click the View Micrsft SQL Server 2008 Express End-user License Agreement link t read the license agreement fr the sftware. This step pens the Database Setup wizard, which will guide yu thrugh the prcess f preparing a database fr use with the management server. In the Database Setup wizard yu will get the chice f using an existing SQL Server n the netwrk r setting up a SQL Server Express Editin (a lightweight, yet pwerful, versin f a full SQL server) n the management server cmputer itself. Fllw the wizard's steps by clicking Next. IMPORTANT: We recmmend that yu install the database n a dedicated hard disk drive that is nt used fr anything else but the database. Installing the database n its wn drive will prevent lw disk perfrmance. IMPORTANT: During the database preparatin prcess, yu will be asked whether yu want t create a new database, use an existing database, r verwrite an existing database. Fr a new installatin, yu wuld typically select the default ptin Create new database. Hwever, if yu are installing the database as part f upgrading t a newer versin f RC-E, and yu want t use yur existing database, make sure yu select Use existing database. When yu have prepared the database, yu will be returned t the OnSSI RC-E Management Server Installatin windw fr the last step in the management server installatin. Step 3: RC-E Management Server This step pens a wizard, which will guide yu thrugh the prcess f installing the management server sftware itself. Fllw the wizard's steps by clicking Next. Tip: The wizard will ask yu t specify the lcatin f yur temprary license (.lic) file. The system will verify yur license file befre yu are able t cntinue. Therefre, have yur license file ready. On ne f the wizard's steps, yu will be asked t select between tw installatin ptins: Typical (n page 16) -r- Custm (n page 16) Yu may install the lg server as part f the management server installatin. But if required yu can just as well install this n anther server in yur surveillance system: Installing the lg server (see "Install Lg Server (Custm)" n page 21) prvides the necessary functinality fr lgging infrmatin frm yur RC-E installatin. Only relevant if selecting Custm installatin: On ne f the wizard's steps yu will be asked t select an IIS (Internet Infrmatin Services) web site fr the Management Server service. Select ne f the listed web sites, and make sure the selected web site is started, then click Next. If the selected web site is nt started, Next is disabled. Tip: Yu may find that nly a single IIS web site the Default Web Site is listed. In that case simply make sure that the web site is started, then click Next. Twards the end f the wizard, in the Service Lg On Setup windw, yu will be asked t select a user accunt under which the Management Server service will run: Yu will be able t select either a: predefined Netwrk Service accunt (see "Select a Predefined Accunt; Netwrk Service" n page 16) (in which case the service will run whenever the cmputer acting as management server is running). - r - particular user accunt (see "Select a Particular User Accunt" n page 16) (in which case the service will use the specified user accunt t lg in t the cmputer acting as management server). Upn installatin f the management server sftware, the management server's built-in web page autmatically pens in a brwser. The web page lets yu install key cmpnents required by the management server, amng these: One r mre recrding servers (fr recrding vide feeds and fr cmmunicating with cameras and ther devices) A Management Client (fr cnfiguratin and day-t-day management f the system) Even thugh the web page pens autmatically n the management server cmputer, yu will in mst cases want t install the key cmpnents n ther cmputers than the management server itself. This is n prblem since installatin takes place thrugh the web page, which can easily be accessed frm ther cmputers. See Install System Cmpnents (n page 17) fr further infrmatin. Install System Cmpnents If upgrading frm a previus versin f RC-E, make sure yu read the upgrade infrmatin (see "Upgrade frm Previus Versin" n page 28). On the web page find the relevant cmpnent's installer sectin, and then click the English link under the required recrding server versin (ften, nly ne versin will be available). Depending n yur security settings, ne r mre Windws security warnings may appear after yu click the link. If such security warnings appear, accept security warnings by clicking Run r similar (exact buttn text depends n yur brwser versin). Part II Installing the Cmpnent Select the relevant cmpnent fr a descriptin f the prcess (if required, repeat the prcess n ther cmputers where the cmpnent shuld be installed): Recrding Servers 1. This will pen the RC-E Recrding Server Setup wizard, which will guide yu thrugh the installatin. On the first step f the wizard, click Next. 2. Select installatin methd: Typical (see "Recrding servers (Typical)" n page 18) - r - Custm (see "Recrding servers (Custm)" n page 19) 3. Click Install. 4. On the last step f the wizard, click Finish. The recrding server is nw installed. The recrding server has n user interface as such; it is accessed and managed thrugh the Management Client. Recrding servers (Typical) The Typical ptin installs the RC-E recrding server with default settings. A Typical installatin is recmmended fr mst users. 1. In sme cases it can be advantageus t install mre than ne instance f the recrding server n the same physical server (see "Multiple Recrding Server Instances" n page 26). Specify the required number f instances (default is 1), then click Next. Only relevant if installing mre than ne instance f the recrding server n the same physical server: Fr each instance, specify the IP address t use fr the instance in questin. 8. Click Next. IMPORTANT: Nte that the IP addresses yu specify must be assigned t the physical server in questin. Furthermre, even thugh yur rganizatin will nt use IPv6 addresses, make sure t assign bth IPv6 and IPv4 n the server as these are needed by the sftware. MediaDB: The path t the server in questin's media database. The media database is the recrding server's default strage area, i.e. the default lcatin in which recrdings frm cnnected cameras are stred in individual camera databases. Imprtant Prt Numbers OnSSI RC-E uses particular prts when cmmunicating with ther cmputers, cameras, etc. What is a prt? A prt is a lgical endpint fr data traffic. Netwrks use different prts fr different types f data traffic. Therefre it is smetimes, but nt always, necessary t specify which prt t use fr particular data cmmunicatin. Mst prts are used autmatically based n the types f data included in the cmmunicatin. On TCP/IP netwrks, prt numbers range frm 0 t 65536, but nly prts 0 t 1024 are reserved fr particular purpses. Fr example, prt 80 is used fr HTTP traffic which is used when viewing web pages. When using RC-E, yu must therefre make sure that certain prts are pen fr data traffic n yur netwrk. The prt numbers can be changed. Different prt numbers may therefre be used in yur rganizatin. See Management Server Service and Recrding Server Service (n page 198) fr infrmatin abut changing the recrding server-related prt numbers. Tip: Cnsult the administratr f yur rganizatin's firewall if in dubt abut hw t pen prts fr traffic. List f Prts Used by RC-E Prt 20 and 21 (inbund and utbund): Used by recrding servers t listen fr FTP infrmatin; sme devices use FTP fr sending event messages. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Prtcl) is a standard fr sending messages between servers. Prt 80 (inbund and utbund): While nt directly used by RC-E, but by management servers, prt 80 is typically used by the IIS (Internet Infrmatin Services) Default Web Site fr running the RC-E Management Server service. Prt 554 (inbund and utbund): Used by recrding servers fr RTSP traffic in cnnectin with H.264 vide streaming. Prt 1024 and abve (utbund nly (except prts listed in the fllwing)): Used by recrding servers fr HTTP traffic between cameras and servers. Prt 5210 (inbund and utbund): Used fr cmmunicatin between recrding servers and failver servers when databases are merged after a failver server has been running. Prt 5432 (inbund and utbund): Used by recrding servers t listen fr TCP infrmatin; sme devices use TCP fr sending event messages. Prt 7563 (inbund and utbund): Used by recrding servers and Ocularis Client fr handling PTZ camera cntrl cmmands and fr cmmunicating. Prt 8080 (inbund and utbund):used fr internal system cmmunicatin. Prt 8844 (inbund and utbund): Used fr cmmunicatin between failver servers. Prt 9993 (inbund and utbund): Used fr cmmunicatin between recrding servers and management servers. Prt (inbund and utbund): Used by failver servers fr plling (i.e. regularly checking) the state f recrding servers. Prt 65101(inbund and utbund): Used by recrding servers fr cmmunicatin between recrding servers and drivers (internally, used fr example when SMTP events are received). Any ther prt numbers yu may have selected t use. Examples: If yu have changed the IIS Default Web Site prt frm its default prt number (80) t anther prt number, r if yu have integrated RC-C servers int yur RC-E system, in which case a prt must be allcated fr use by RC-C's Image Server service. Multiple Management Servers (Clustering) The RC-E management server can be installed n multiple servers within a cluster f servers. This ensures that RC-E has very little dwn-time: if a server in the cluster fails, anther server in the cluster will autmatically take ver the failed server's jb running the RC-E management server. The autmatic prcess f switching ver the RC-E server service t run n anther server in the cluster nly takes a very shrt time (up t 30 secnds). Nte that the allwed number f failvers is limited t tw within a six hur perid. If exceeded, Management Server services are nt autmatically started by the clustering service. The number f allwed failvers can be changed t better fit yur needs. See Micrsft's hmepage (see fr details n hw t d this. Is clustering the same as federated architecture? N, clustering is nt the same as federated architecture (see "OnSSI Federated Architecture Overview" n page 173). Clustering is a methd t btain failver supprt fr a management server n a site. With clustering, it is nly pssible t have ne active management server per surveillance setup, but ther management servers may be set up t take ver in case f failure. On the ther hand, federated architecture, is a methd t cmbine multiple independent crprate sites int ne large setup, ffering flexibility and unlimited pssibilities.
