1 TPS Support Course 2015: Risk Management, FERPA Review, Classroom Management, Roles of Paraprofessionals and Teachers, Strategies for English Language Development This online professional learning opportunity will allow you to complete required hours at times that are convenient to you. In this course, you will gain an awareness of (1) creating a safe work environment and procedures to follow to avoid accidents, (2) the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, (3) classroom and school management procedures to ensure student success, (4) identify the roles and expectations of paraprofessionals and teachers, and (5) strategies for English Language Development. This course is divided into sections, or modules. Each module is designed to be independent of the others, so you do not need to complete them in order nor do you need to complete a module in one sitting. 2 1. Learn to Navigate Your Screen (This will be covered in a video embedded in the course.) Access videos, learning targets (where you will find your course) and other resources by clicking here. Clicking here returns you to the home screen. Search for resources here. Click here to update your profile. 2. Click on Resources on the green navigation bar to access Edivation resources. 3. Choose Learning Targets from the drop down menu. 4. Click on Courses in left navigation. 5. Enter your registration code, UGC243617X452773, in the registration code field. 6. Click Register. 7. Your course is now available appearing in the list of courses. Click on your course name to begin. Navigating Your Course: (This is a sample course to illustrate navigation. It is not the course you are enrolled in.) The green bar indicates completion Click on an activity to open it. Always begin with activity 1. When an activity is complete, it is highlighted in green and will say complete. If needed, click refresh to update the page.

3 Important Activity Notes: Each task must be opened and completed. The time a video is watched is recorded. Partially watched videos will not show as completed. The Risk Management module requires you to enter a password to access the videos. The password is tps-training. Activity Icon Legend: This is an informational icon. Click to open and read the information and directions provided by the instructor. This is a play button allowing you to play the attached video. This icon indicates a link to an external web site. Click to access the link and visit the site. This icon indicates a download for you. Click to download the document. This icon indicates required questions to be answered. 8. To begin your course, click on the first activity and follow the directions. (Note: Not all activities require an action. Some are informational.) 9. Once completed, click on the next activity, and continue through the course until it is complete. Returning to Your Course 1. Follow instructions 1 5 under the Locating Your Course section of this handout. 2. Locate your course in the list and click on it. Printing a Course Completion Certificate 1. Once a course is complete, you can print a certificate showing completion. Click the Print Certificate button. (If you do not see it, you may need to use the refresh task list link.) 2. The certificate will be a pdf file. You may need to turn off your popup blocker. An example is shown at the right.

4 Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Do I need to complete the course in one sitting? A: No. You may return to the course and finish it at any time. Follow the tutorial section entitled, Returning to Edivation to Continue Course Completion. Q: Can this be done on any computer? Once started, do I need to finish it on the same computer. A: Edivation is a web-based professional learning program. Any computer with an internet connection can be used to complete the course. Q: Does Edivation work on all web browsers? A: Yes. As long as the browsers are updated, you can use Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc. Q: Why can t I use Internet Explorer on a school computer? A: School computers are not updated with a current version of Internet Explorer. Therefore, if completing the course on a school computer, you must use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Q: How do I know if I ve completed an activity? A: Once completed, the activity will be highlighted green. Q: Do I need to turn anything in to receive payment for this professional development day? A: No. An Edivation report will be pulled each Monday and turned into payroll. Q: Who do I contact regarding payment questions? A: Contact payroll regarding any questions regarding payments and payment schedules. Q: Can I do this on my ipad? A: Yes. Q: Do I need to print my certificate of completion and/or turn it in? A: No. A report will be provided to payroll listing participant names, completion status, and date of completion. Q: When I click on a link within the course, nothing is happening. What do I do?
