Then our Graduate Development Programme may be just the start you are looking for to establish your events career. In this information pack you can find out more about the structure of the Graduate Development Programme. You can also learn more about who we are and what we do, including hearing from some of our team about what it s like to work at H3, and detail on what support and development is provided. There is also information that outlines the process for applying and how we plan to appoint Graduates. Who is H3? Home to Hamilton s premier event venues, we are much more than just venue management. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in events of all shapes and sizes. We are dedicated hosts, prepared to go the extra mile for our clients and guests. The H stands for Hamilton Bridging the mighty Waikato, New Zealand s longest river, Hamilton is New Zealand s fourth largest city and the hub of the Waikato region. Our city is home to some of New Zealand s largest and most innovative organisations and our region is the agricultural powerhouse of the New Zealand economy. Small in size but big in heart, our country boasts magnificent landscapes and an array of attractions and activities. It is a beautiful part of the world, and a place we are proud to call home. 3 The 3 represents our breadth Our diverse collection of venues, Claudelands, Waikato Stadium, Seddon Park, The Grandstand, Founders Theatre, and Clarence Street Theatre, enables us to host a range of guest experiences. These can be grouped into the following: We specialise in spaces that encourage the sharing of ideas through discussion or celebration. We are curators of unique settings for meetings, conferences and exhibitions for local, national and international markets. We evoke the chatter and excitement of fans through hosting live sport, from netball to cricket, rugby and boxing. Whether from New Zealand or abroad, our closer to the action atmosphere makes us a favourite for athletes and fans alike We set the stage for the greatest international, national and local artists to perform live, whether a visual spectacular, cultural showcase or spirited community play. We are the hosts of Hamilton, live on stage. 4 Our Teams What We Do H3 is a large, diverse team of capable, experienced people who work to ensure events, conferences, exhibitions, functions and performances all come together as seamlessly and successfully as possible. Here s a snapshot of what our teams do. Business Development Our dynamic Business Development team leads the promotion and sales of our services and venues including one-off special events and performances to conferences, meetings, functions and exhibitions for local, national and international clients. Highly dedicated and client-focused, their role is to nurture existing relationships and grow our reputation with new clients as a leading player in the meet, compete and perform sectors. Marketing Supporting the sales and business development effort is our creative Marketing team who oversee the communication of our brand through the development of marketing collateral and communications to drive the successful branding and promotion of our venues, events, shows and sporting fixtures. They also provide regular updates and communication to internal and external clients about our offerings. Operations Delivering events, performances, conferences, exhibitions and functions rests with our Operations teams. A diverse team coordinating event logistics includes Venue Managers, Events Managers and Coordinators based at our venues. These teams work closely alongside Business Development and Marketing and key partners to bring events, conferences, exhibitions, functions, performances and sporting occasions to life. Outstanding service to our clients is ably provided by our Operations team who are there to set up and pack down, while our experienced Technical Services team provide lighting, sound and production expertise for our performance and theatrical activity at our venues. Looking after the grass is the job of our Turf Services team who not only produce exceptional pitches at Seddon Park and Waikato Stadium that have made us the envy of other stadiums around the country, but also maintain our venues grounds in pristine condition. Business Support Driving our business strategy is the Business Support team. This versatile team supports our system for managing clients and events as well as other key systems that span across all venues, and participates in the range of financial reporting of the business. Coordination of building and infrastructure projects is another integral role lead by Business Support. Our Partners We work with a number of highly professional, capable partners to deliver world-class events for our clients. Symbiotic and cooperative, our relationships with Montana Catering, Vidcom, Red Badge and other providers enable us to round out our services. H3 GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2015 PAGE 3

Here s what some of our team have to say about working at H3: Karina Hallberg Graduate I joined the H3 team in April 2014 as one of H3 s first Graduates. Having completed a degree in Marketing and PR from the University of Waikato at the end of 2013, events were something I was very passionate about. With limited graduate opportunities in the events sector you can imagine my excitement when I saw this Graduate Programme advertised. The programme turned out to be more than I could have dreamed; the opportunities I ve received are almost hard to believe. This programme has allowed me to experience every single part of our business, doing things I never thought I was capable of. H3 has a brilliant team of dedicated people who are always encouraging me to achieve more, go further and break through my personal limits. Everyday I m reminded of reasons why I love my job. I ve experienced a lot in my short time with H3, but my favourite moment has to be seeing the excited faces of thousands of kids as Minnie and Mickey skated into the Arena at Disney on Ice. Our H3 brand identity is about defining spaces, defining stories; and my story has just begun. Edward Bryant Graduate After completing a commerce degree at Victoria University I was unsure of which career path to take. However, my interest in H3 s newly formed Graduate Development Programme was piqued due to some prior events experience at school and university. Since joining the programme I have realised that the industry and the role was much more involved, more professional and more exciting than I ve ever imagined it to be and I ve loved it ever since. The opportunities I ve had have been unbelievable, from working at high profile rugby matches and performances to helping maintain top quality grass at the stadium. The programme has allowed me to get involved in every aspect of this broad and exciting business and become immersed in a number of different roles. The best part about it has been the awesome teams and people I have met along the way, H3 have some of the best people in the business that have acted as great mentors. After only being with the business for just over 6 months I look forward to seeing how far this career can take me in the years to come. Shannon Ross Events Coordinator Claudelands Arena I came to H3 in June 2011 as an Intern fulfilling the practical requirements of the Bachelor of Sports and Leisure degree, with a view to developing a career in Events. This lead to a role as Casual Duty Manager at Claudelands in August 2011, and ultimately a permanent appointment to the business in 2012 as an Events Coordinator for both Exhibition and Arena events. This has involved working alongside the Event Managers on major events, but has also given me the opportunity to manage smaller events and exhibitions for clients. Recently my role has become Arena-based, giving me an awesome opportunity to specialise. The successful conclusion of an event is really rewarding, knowing that I ve contributed to helping our clients and guests enjoy a well-run, world-class event. Seeing the business evolve over the last 3 years has been very satisfying as I ve had lots of opportunities to be part of developing our business. This is a busy, varied role. At times the challenge is to make great decisions that benefit both our clients and our business. This has been helped by having a great team around me to call on for guidance when I need it. Working here has enabled me to build a great base of experience in the events sector, and being part of a growing business has also provided excellent opportunities for me to make a difference. 6 Programme Structure H3 offers an exciting opportunity for Graduates in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management, Marketing or Business disciplines to get their career in events management and marketing off the ground through a broad-based development programme. The programme is rotation-based, giving you the opportunity to experience all aspects of our business and provide you with a solid base of knowledge and experience in the events sector. Induction Rotations Months 2-6 Rotations Month 7-18 Transition to Role 6 -week intensive introduction Short-term rotations with each team More in-depth placements of up to 6 months Appointed to role within H3 Find out who we are, what we do, how we do things and who we work with. Hands-on insight and experience into each team and how they operate and work with other teams Tailored to your interests and business needs Helps you define a potential career path Support and Development Support Right from the start, you can expect to receive continuous support and development from our team. Through a combination of informal and formal coaching, we will help you understand your strengths and areas for development. Key support contacts include a Development Manager who also serves as your Mentor in the early stages of the programme. They will see you get off to a good start with the induction process and coordinate your rotations with Line Managers. They will also provide mentoring support to help guide your transition to work at H3. A Buddy will also be assigned to you as you work across different teams. As someone who is a peer, they will be there to help you settle in and become part of the H3 team. When on rotation, your Line Manager will be there to coach you and give you timely feedback. At the end of each rotation, you will get a chance to review your experiences with them and your Development Manager/Mentor. Development Over the course of the 18 month period you will have the opportunity to build skills, knowledge and experience through a mix of formal and on-the-job development, with the majority of your learning being derived from on-the-job experiences. In the first 10 months you will complete the Entertainment Venues Association of New Zealand (EVANZ) - Entertainment and Event Venues Core Skills certificate provided by Skills Active ITO. This is an industryrecognised, NZQA approved qualification that enables you to learn more about our venues and develop skills relating to managing your time, health and safety and customer service. We d love to hear from you if you are a new graduate with a degree or diploma in one of, but not limited to, one of the following areas: Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management Marketing Business We will also consider applications from those who are new to their career and have practical, industryrelated experience. Ultimately, you will be motivated to build a career in the events sector. You may also have a mix of study with part-time work experience in a customer-focused environment. We are looking for well-rounded, can-do people with loads of enthusiasm for a career in our industry. You will be quick to learn, be open to feedback and not be afraid to get stuck in. You will need to be highly adaptable and willing to try out new things. While we will be there to support you, being inquisitive will help you get the most out of the programme. This is a fast-paced, busy environment and being able to adjust to the differing demands of our clients and business activities will be crucial. You ll be tenacious, driven and keen to soak up as much as you can. A team ethic balanced by a capacity to use initiative will be to your advantage. For our intake in 2015 we will be offering places for up to two Graduates to join our team on a permanent, full-time employment agreement. Selection Process Once applications have closed, these will be screened and a short-list created based on a set of key criteria. If you are successful in making our short-list, you will be invited to meet us for interviews with some of our managers. Interviews will be competency-based. We invite you to bring your questions and use this time to interview us.
