THE PROJECT FACTORY Our programs combine superb academic training with an exciting craft-based learning experience called The Project Factory. Students function as event managers for approximately 10 campus events each semester, managing a wide range of operational functions including event planning and budgeting, marketing communications, ticket sales, registration, logistics, security and more. All activities are under the guidance of our highly experienced professors, all of whom have significant real-world ESE experience. INTERNSHIPS All of our students complete two, six-month internships that give them invaluable hands-on experience operating and managing events of all kinds. These internships are coordinated by the internship placement office, and each student receives an average of 3.6 internship offers.

I DID MY FIRST INTERNSHIP IN THE GUARDA GOLF HOTEL IN CRANS MONTANA, WHERE I WAS A SPA MANAGER AND A SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE. MY SECOND INTERNSHIP WAS AT THE HYATT REGENCY IN KIEV. I WORKED IN THE HOTEL S SALES AND MARKETING DEPARTMENT AND WAS ACTUALLY IN CHARGE OF ORGANIZING AND RUNNING A WIDE VARIETY OF EVENTS, INCLUDING SEMINARS, PRESS BREAKFASTS, PRESS CONFERENCES, WEDDINGS, AND EVEN FASHION SHOWS. 12 ALUMNI TESTIMONIAL MANFRED HABICHT SWITZERLAND BACHELOR DEGREE IN EVENT, SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT GRADUATED IN 2012 VIP SERVICES COORDINATOR - UEFA WHY DID YOU CHOOSE GLION INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN SWITZERLAND AND THE EVENT, SPORT & ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM? I actually heard about Glion when I was quite young, at the age of 14. Curious to learn more, I requested a visit and a private tour. I was fascinated by the atmosphere of the school so I went back when I was about to graduate from high school. For me, the choice of studying in Switzerland was easy due to the reputation of the educational institutions as well as my familiarity with the region, being Swiss myself. After high school, I did my military service and got some work experience and I finally started my studies during the winter of 2008, at the age of 21. At that point, the Event Sport and Entertainment (ESE) program had been launched and I felt that it was a unique program that none of the other Swiss schools could offer. I knew it was right for me as I had enjoyed my experience of working with events at school and at work prior to applying to Glion. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE ESE PROGRAM AT GLION? The internships are definitely a big plus. Nowadays, even if you are a fresh graduate, employers are asking for experience before hiring you. The Craft-Based Learning (CBL) also makes the ESE program unique. It gives students opportunities to organize events and get leadership experience. For example, we did a few end-of-semester events where we had quite a significant budget. This makes the projects feel more real and some of them can be quite complicated as well. Some sporting events require the students to really learn coordination as they have to communicate with several classes, and sometimes campuses. We need to make sure that everyone is at the right place at the right time and that everything is working like clockwork while being under time constraint. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITHIN GLION? I remember the ESE classes as being smaller than the other classes, which created a very lively and dynamic environment where it was easy to ask questions and interact. Thanks to the CBL, we had to work a lot under pressure which revealed the cultural differences between us. To get the opportunity to experience this in a teaching environment is extremely rare, I would say. I also remember that we got involved in several events outside the classroom. This experience was

13 achieved thanks to our teachers who all have a background in the industry and some are still involved in events. Outside the classroom, I especially enjoyed the sports facilities. There is easy access to the gym and there are different sports being organized every day. The campus life is really amazing, especially being an ESE student. As we did not have the same schedule as the others, we joined a lot of the excursions organized on weekends to integrate and meet people from other classes and programs. during different events. I was given a lot of responsibility, probably because I had a previous experience with UEFA prior to Glion. My second internship was in the ticketing department. This is a very political position as you are responsible for distributing tickets to our internal guests, such as senior management and executive committee. That includes the seating plan of the VIP area, which is even more political. We had representatives from local and national governments as well as representatives from large corporations and it was my responsibility to organize a relevant seating plan. UEFA. It is a really exciting job, especially due to the expansion of the EURO 2016 championship from 16 to 24 teams, from 8 to 10 venues and from 30 to 51 games. This means that we have a few strategic choices to make, for example whether we should move to online ticketing or stick with the printed tickets etc. I am involved in those strategic decisions and the long term project management, which is completely new and very appealing to me. WOULD YOU WOULD RECOMMEND ESE TO A POTENTIAL STUDENT? CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR INTERNSHIPS AND THE OUTCOME IN TERMS OF EXPERIENCE? I did both of my internships at UEFA. I had my first work experience and I continued to grow within the company. I applied for different internships, but UEFA was such a unique opportunity and it has really shaped my career. During my internships I had the opportunity to experience different departments and different management styles. My first internship was in the events department where I was working as an accreditation coordinator. I was responsible for granting the visitors and staff access to the appropriate areas CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR CAREER PATH AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES SINCE YOUR GRADUATION? Directly after my graduation I worked for the EURO 2012 for three months, based in Poland. After that I joined the boxing federation AIBA. After a while, I tested myself outside the sport industry by moving into luxury retail with the famous brand Chopard. It was great to experience a completely different field. The luxury industry is very customer oriented and personalized in their service strategy. After a year with Chopard my former manager at UEFA contacted me to offer me a really good position as a junior in sales. Today I work as a VIP Services Coordinator at It is a unique program in the way it is structured. The internships are definitely the biggest plus, especially with the diverse portfolio of companies, organizations and associations that are recruiting from Glion. Furthermore, the diversity of the program is phenomenal. We learn about human resources, finance, marketing etc. which creates a broad and solid base that can be applied over a lot of industries. I think this is what employers are looking for nowadays; the ability to see things from a different angle and flexibility to move between departments and locations.
