1 NEWS 1 LETTER Staying in touch matters ISSUE NO. 05/14 I 15th May 2014 Bank of Kigali wins Best Bank in Rwanda, Best Bank in Customer Satisfaction and the 2013 USD STP Excellence Award Bank of Kigali (the Bank ), the largest bank in Rwanda by market share of total assets, loans, deposits and shareholders funds, is pleased to announce that it has been named the Best Bank in Rwanda and the Best Bank in Customer Satisfaction at this year s Think Business East African Annual Banking Awards. The Bank was also honored with the 2013 USD STP Excellence Award by Deutsche Bank. The Bank won the 2013 USD STP Excellence Award for the exceptional quality of payment systems. Mr Nigel Bruce, the Director, Head East and Southern Africa Cash Management Financial Institutions noted, I wish to offer our congratulations to you and your team and at the same time our thanks for your professionalism and quality. The Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Kigali thanked his team for exceptional performance and encouraged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.

The awards attracted participation from commercial banks and microfinance banks in the East African Community (EAC) member states. The awards are organized annually by Think Business. Bank of Kigali was selected as the Best Bank in Rwanda for its sustained position at the forefront of commercial and retail banking in Rwanda as reflected in its significant market share across major metrics such as total assets, loans deposits and equity. The Bank has demonstrated consistent growth and innovation in service delivery through key initiatives such as BK Mobibank, Agency Banking, Electronic Channels like ATMs including Deposit Taking ATMs, Point of Sales (POS), Online Banking and the soon to be launched e-commerce service. The Bank has also taken a number of steps to ensure customer satisfaction. Our Call Centre now opens for longer hours from 8am to 8pm. Customers do not need to come to the Bank for inquiries such as account opening, loan processing, card application, and transfers thereby reducing the queues in Banking halls. In addition, the Bank ensures that customers receive consistent services across the Bank s network. The Chief Executive Officer together with some of his Management team frequently visit upcountry Branches. This is an opportunity for the Bank Management, local leaders and customers to interact and exchange ideas on how the Bank can continuously improve and serve them better. It is in recognition of steps such as these that the Bank was awarded the Best Customer Satisfaction in Rwanda. We are honored and delighted to receive these awards this year. This award, as well as other awards received this year, is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of our team and the trust our customers have placed in the Bank. 3 3 Bank Of Kigali Celebrates Bank of Kigali on Thursday 1st May 2014, celebrated Labor Day in style at BK Headquarters with members of the Management team and Staff. The Management and Staff of the Bank converged at the Amahoro Stadium to cheer their peers who participated in both the football finals match with Inyange Industry and basketball finals with KCB Bank. The day set off to a great start with teams from KCB Bank and BK playing basketball at Amahoro Stadium. Bank of Kigali team proved to the have played better, winning the match with a score of 77 points while KCB Bank had 45 points. Following the great sports events, the Bank celebrated Labor Day at the Bank s Head Office with Management and staff. There were speeches, food, drinks and entertainment. The CEO thanked the staff for their hard work and commitment ensuring that the Bank meets and even exceeds its targets. In 2013, the Bank made a profit of RWF 14.8billion exceeding the 2012 profit by about RWF three billion. He noted that the Bank is committed to ensuring that all Rwandans have access to financial services. As such, the Bank opened six additional branches in 2013 increasing the total number of Branches opened since 2009 to 47. The Bank now has 65 Branches and more will be opened in Furthermore, the Bank has introduced Agency Banking to support the existing network. In 2014, the Bank will open approximately 500 Agents and increase the number of its mobile banking vans from five to nine. Through MobiBank

5 Bank Of Kigali Celebrates 5 vans, the Bank has penetrated further in the villages to ensure that even where there is no branch or BK agent, Rwandans can still access Bank of Kigali financial services. In addition to increasing access to finance for all Rwandans, Bank of Kigali is making big steps to contribute to Rwanda s vision of creating a cashless economy. In 2014, the Bank will increase its Point of Sales to 750 and its ATMs by 21 bringing the total number of ATMs to 86. The Bank already offers visa credit and debit cards. With Bank of Kigali s credit card, a customer can access the Banks money free of interest for 55 days. The client may also elect to only pay 25% of the amount due with an interest rate. The Bank will soon introduce master card credit and debit cards, giving customers a choice. Customers can then decide to use the master card or visa card which will are all usable on the banks ATMs and POS s. The CEO emphasized the need for every staff to live by the slogan of the Bank financially transforming lives. The vision of each staff member should be aligned with the vision of the Bank. He thanked Mrs. Virginie Nyirahabineza (Retail Banking-Customer Care Service) and Ntirenganya Jeanne D arc (Retail Banking- Muhanga Branch) who were retiring for their commitment to the Bank. Mrs. Virginie Nyirahabineza, who had worked with the Bank for 34 years thanked the Bank Management for the transformation she has seen take place in the Bank. We used to open about 3 accounts every day because of the complicated requirements needed to open an account. Any member of staff who earned less than RWF 70, 000 was not allowed to open an account. Today the Bank opens about 300 accounts everyday with minimum requirements. The CEO concluded by thanking the staff for their hard work. It is because of the confidence we have in you that we set high targets for the Bank and achieve them. You have all given of yourselves to serve our esteemed customers well. 7 Did you know the benefits of using BK internet banking? 7 Published by: Yvon Gilbert Nishimwe (Electronic Banking Manager) In order to provide more convenient and technology based products, Bank of Kigali has introduced a new internet banking platform that allow customers to access their accounts online. The BK-Internet Banking service consists of seven modules, each intended to carry out a specific type of transaction within the limits defined by the conditions set. They enable the customer to: Obtain account information such as balance and statements Make transfers between the Customer s accounts with Bank of Kigali and other local banks Request cheque books or stop cheque books if stolen among other reasons Make queries on loans and term deposits Access services like foreign exchange, set alerts, do account name customization or send secure to BK-Internet Banking administrator. To register to BK internet banking, you need to complete the application forms available in all BK branches which are also downloadable from Bk website Below are steps that you should follow once you have received your BK internet banking credentials: 1. Go to 2. Click on LOGIN 3. The following screen will be displayed: To fill in your client ID, please enter value of Subscriber as indicated on the PDF document containing web banking subscription details that you received on your To fill in your personal code, use the grid and enter value of password as indicated on the bottom of the PDF document containing web banking subscription details. This password is made of 8 digits. 5. Click on Submit 6. You will be prompted to change your password. 7. Follow the instructions as indicated on the screen. Your new password should be 8 digits 8. Click on submit. 9. You will now see you accounts and be able to navigate in all modules of BK internet Banking. Sign up and enjoy BK Internet Banking free of charge.

8 Check the antivirus software status 8 to avoid Viruses in your Computer BK always uses computer technology, so we must do our best to avoid viruses to get into our computers. Even if we just use our own desktop or laptop for personal issues, we must consider what would happen if our systems became infected by malware and (for example): If some or all of our passwords were stolen (which could provide the hacker access to our bank accounts, etc.). If the sensitive business information (documents, accounts, , etc) were compromised. If the Bank computers were rendered unusable and required expensive repair. Or if any other bank equipment on the network was infected by the virus. Here is how you can check the status of the antivirus software on your computer: If you don t see the red K at all, it may mean that your computer has no antivirus software; please call IT immediately. If you click on the red K which is the Kaspersky antivirus icon; you ll be able to read some information concerning the antivirus software status. In normal conditions you ll be able to read the anti-virus s last update; otherwise you ll see a warning message in red color.
