2 ANSWERING YOUR CALL FOR MORE STROKE KNOWLEDGE The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) has designed this inaugural state-of-the-science stroke conference to address clinical learning needs; organizational development goals for stroke centers; and clinical challenges in the emergency room, inpatient areas, the rehabilitation unit, and the community. If you are involved in the care of stroke patients whether you are an advanced practice nurse, stroke coordinator or administrator, critical care neuroscience nurse, preparing for the Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) examination, or a nurse new to stroke care this conference will help you achieve your educational goals. Conference Objectives Inspire attendees to optimize patient care through exposure to innovative research and leading evidence-based practice in stroke medicine. Create an environment conducive to meeting the learning needs of nurses from introductory to expert levels of practice. Promote the advancement of neuroscience nursing. Foster networking and mentoring among neuroscience nursing colleagues. 3 FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2015 EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS 7:30 8:30 am KEYNOTE The Impact of Primary and Comprehensive Stroke Centers Philip B. Gorelick, MD MPH FACP, medical director of the Hauenstein Neuroscience Center, Saint Mary s Health Care, Grand Rapids, MI Stroke centers are the epicenter of organized care for acute stroke patients and rehabilitative and recurrent stroke prevention efforts. In this address, we will trace the development of primary and comprehensive stroke centers in the United States. We will review a series of publications from the American Heart Association s Get with the Guidelines stroke database, and from other sources that 8:45 am 6 pm SCRN REVIEW Stroke education, following the SCRN content outline, will help you prepare for the SCRN exam. To make staff efforts more efficient and satisfying, we will also discuss efforts to fine-tune health care that may benefit stroke patients through industry methods such as Lean. The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP: 13331). Successful completion: Participants must be registered for the conference and attend the session(s). Attendees can be awarded 1 nursing contact hour for every 60-minute educational session they attend and evaluate. Each participant will receive a username and password to complete an online evaluation. Participants must complete a form for each session they attend and an overall conference evaluation to receive contact hours.
