2 Featured Speakers: Keynote Presentation Focus the Flame: Impacting Quality & Patient Safety through Nursing Excellence Kathryn Roberts, RN, MSN, CNS, CCRN, CCNS Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia Kathryn Roberts has been the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the pediatric intensive care unit at The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) since Kathryn worked as a nurse at CHOP in many critical care roles since Kathryn is a past president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). She served on many key committees from She also served in many volunteer capacities with AACN including the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition Work Group and the AACN Nominating Committee. Kathryn belongs to AACN s Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, the local chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, which honored her with its 2007 and 2009 Presidential Citation. She is also the recipient of AACN's Lifetime Membership Award, the 2013 Expert Alumni Award for Clinical Excellence from the University of Pennsylvania and the 2012 Caroline Langstadter CNO/Senior VP Award for Excellence in Nursing from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Kathryn lectures extensively on pediatric critical care and resuscitation topics, has published research articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored multiple chapters in pediatric critical care nursing textbooks. Plenary Presentation Influencing Excellence Beth Hammer, MSN, RN, APRN-BC Program Manager for Nursing Excellence Nurse Practitioner Zablocki VA Medical Center Beth Hammer, MSN, RN, APRN-BC, a certified adult nurse practitioner (NP) at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI divides her time between providing leadership for the nursing excellence program and as a nurse practitioner in cardiology. Her leadership role includes facilitating nursing shared governance, patient and nurse satisfaction surveys, and the DAISY Award program. As an NP, she provides consultation and long-term follow-up care to patients with acute and chronic arrhythmias including those with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. Beth was past-president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Board of Directors; she completed her term in As president, Beth led the Board of Directors and rallied AACN s (then) 87,000 members around her Act with Intention theme. Act with Intention served as a constant reminder to nurses that when they step back and take in the bigger picture, intentions become clear. Also, as a past-president, she represented AACN in working with other members of the Critical Care Societies Collaborative on a variety of initiatives.
3 Purpose: This conference is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional growth of nurses who care for children and their families across all care settings, and to provide an opportunity for scholarly networking. Target Audience: Registered nurses, advanced practice providers, school-based nurses, public health nurses, nurse educators, nurse leaders, and other health care professionals interested in and committed to caring for the health of children and their families. Contact Hours: is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Nurses who successfully complete this activity and the poster session will receive 6 nursing contact hours, 3 of which are eligible for pharmacology hours. (Please see asterisked* sessions for pharmacology.) Call for Poster Abstracts: Registered nurses, graduate students, and other healthcare professionals who are interested and/or involved in research, EBP, or program development (ongoing or completed) are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations.
