Includes instruction in medical correspondence and records, case histories of patients, filing, telephone procedures, appointment scheduling, receptionist duties and processing mail. Familiarizes the student with computer applications in the health care setting. Provides the student with basics of operations and applications of computer usage within the health care provider office. Explain the history of medicine and how it had affected today s medical industry Objective 1.1 List several pioneers and discuss the importance of their contribution to the medical profession. Objective 1.2 Explain the roles of world health organizations. Objective 1.3 Identify the role of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regulations in healthcare settings. Objective 1.4 Discuss the various types of ambulatory care. Objective 1.5 Distinguish among different types of doctors and medical practices. Objective 1.6 Compare and contrast the allied health professions and understand their relation to medical assisting. Competency 2 Differentiate between administrative and clinical medical assisting duties and have knowledge of the general responsibilities of the medical assistant.
