Plans are underway to finish the north shed roof with proper sealing and paint. The Club is developing materials to market membership to neighborhoods that will be more accessible with the opening of the new bypass City Center Boulevard. Board members approved new summer membership options for the 2015 season. Summer member -ship is only available to people who have never been members before. They may join as summer members prior to June 1, for $600, for a three-month period or after June 1 for $750. Summer memberships include a $50/month food and beverage minimum. The next Board of Directors meeting is Thursday, March 19, 7pm. Members are invited to attend Board meetings. If you would like to have something placed on the Board agenda, you must notify the Commodore at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. WYCC Think Tank Meeting Lindsay led a Think Tank session on Sunday, February 22, to get members input into Club events and ways of attracting new members. See Page 2. 2 PAGE 2 ANCHOR LINES MARCH 2015 Ready, Willing, & Able A Message from Our General Manager On Sunday February 22, we conducted a Think Tank and were pleased to see over a dozen members come out in the thawing ice and support our efforts. Our goal for the day was to get people talking about different ideas for Club events as well as to think about different ways the Club can raise money to do more "fun" things while here at the Club. One of the focal points of discussion was the drawings that have been strategically placed down in the dining room and at the Annual Meeting held in January. These drawings represent just a few of the ideas that I have had and have wanted to implement since arriving here just over three years ago. (See renderings below.) The drawings show a large fire pit with plenty of seating, an upper balcony deck off of the North corner of the building, and a nice outdoor patio with tables for dining. All three amenities would go a long way in helping us sell memberships, retain current members, and give us more options when selling outside banquet and catering events. We shared with the group that there is even a fund that has been started anonymously by a current member in an effort to begin the process of getting these particular tasks underway and completed. Many other valuable ideas came out through conversation among the people who attended. There were two recommendations that seemed to be popular with all involved. One was to find better ways of getting out information about what s going on at the Club. FaceBook, Twitter, and the Club's improved website were three ways that were discussed. Gathering valuable feedback from events and conducting surveys was part of the communication discussion. The second item that had people in agreement was that we need to get more people involved with helping make the events and Club run smoother and more efficiently. The best way that this can happen is for members to serve on committees or volunteer to work on events that interest them. Committees are designed to give all of you some "ownership" of all that is going on at the Club. If you would like to get more involved, we would love the opportunity to find the right committee or event that you can be a part of. Our goal is to gather all of the information that came out of the Think Tank, put it together into sections or groups, and then divide up the information between smaller groups (committees) in an effort to see the events and ideas come to fruition. There was even talk of a follow-up meeting to further discuss certain topics that everyone seemed to be on board with. I appreciate all of the positive comments, discussion, and feedback that was generated from the meeting and look forward to doing my part to helping make this Club a better place to be. Lindsay N. 3 MARCH 2015 ANCHOR LINES WYCC Committee News PAGE 3 Ahoy First Mates! We have turned the corner into March and it's time to get out and enjoy our Club as it blooms into the Spring Season. Our February meeting was productive, as First Mates voted on our fundraising for the year needed to make some dreams at the Club come true. I ask that you mark your calendars for our March meeting, March 11, 6:30 topside. We will begin planning our projects, and, of course, have some fun! Our first fund-raiser will be a Comedy Night on Friday night, March 27th. Lindsay will have a fabulous dinner downstairs followed by comedy upstairs. Details will follow as we get closer to the event. We are still hoping more ladies will join us in our work to help the Club with various projects. We are really getting to know each other...just ask those attending the last meeting! Take care and let those March winds blow you our way for the meeting on the 11th and the Comedy Night on the 27th! From the Helm, Sue Johnson, President First Mates Thanks to David Jingst who recently took over as dock master and chair of the Club s Piers and Docks Committee. David joined the Club last August and has the sailboat Elan, a Pearson Triton 28, that has joined the fleet at WYCC. He is an ASE certified mechanic and when he has available time, enjoys helping people out if they are having mechanical problems. He is putting together a committee for Piers and Docks and is looking for volunteer members. If you re interested in being on the Piers and Docks Committee, please contact David. Anchor Lines Editor Wanted No experience necessary, just an interest in the Club and its activities. Familiarity with a software program such as Page Maker or Publisher would be helpful. If you re interested and can commit to spending several hours each month, please contact Marily DeWall. Hats off to member Mike Hayes who has been busy creating a new and improved website for the club. Currently in final draft as wycc.co, the site will be rolled out within the next few days with the familiar wycc.biz web address. A new feature with the site is our new Twitter feed (@WYCCLUB), which is already "tweeting" the Club's daily dining room specials and events. Stay tuned! Congratulations to Sea Turtle swimmers Caitlin Brnich, Maggie Cooke, Skyler DeWall, Megan Griffin, Alex Moore, and Niko Nemceff for qualifying and participating in the Virginia Group 5A High School Championship Swim Meet in Richmond.
