2 From the Manager: Debbie Crosser Hello Everyone! Emery Place has been a very busy place the past 3 months! We have many new faces greeting us daily with either new residents who have chosen to make Emery Place home, or the faces of new staff who are ready to provide a great life for those who are making this community their home. This month we have added Megan Larsen to our team as our new Health Care Coordinator. Please help me in welcoming her to Emery Place. As you are all settling in and making new friendships I want to remind you to let us know what we can do to help you in every possible way. We want you to enjoy yourself and get involved in the daily activities and outings as much as possible. We take pride in helping you and ultimately it is up to you to communicate with us where we can help. Please do not hesitate to call on us. I want to thank those of you who took part in the semi-annual meeting with Senior Housing President, Allen Phillips and Vice President, Allison Law. They had a wonderful day visiting with you and hearing from you. I am very happy with the feedback as we work hard to provide you with a great life here at Emery Place. We had a great day and we have passed the test! We are always striving to improve and make your home a wonderful place to live. Thank you for providing them with your ideas and input. 3 From Healthcare: Megan Larsen Hello Everyone My name is Megan Larsen and I am the new Healthcare Coordinator here at Emery Place. A little bit about myself I was born and raised in Dyersville, IA. I went to nursing school at St. Ambrose in Davenport. After school, I moved to Madison, WI where I worked for 8 years and met my husband. We recently moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to family. We don t have any children at this time, but have a 100 lb. black lab named Tucker, who I treat like my child! Prior to Emery Place, I worked at St. Luke s in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, so this is quite a change of pace! I ve really enjoyed meeting all of you these past few weeks! Always know that my door is open for questions and concerns! Dementia Support Group Esther and Ruth enjoying music therapy! If you have a loved one who has been diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer s disease and are interested in being our advocate to help start our support group please contact Hannah at Training will be provided by the Alzheimer s Association. Our Dementia Support Group will meet once every month for an hour in the Library. The group brings together caregivers and loved ones of those who have been affected by Dementia or Alzheimer s disease. Connect with others who are truly experiencing what you are going through and gain understanding in a compassionate environment.

From Community Relations: Sarah Zimmerman The Alzheimer s Association Walk to End Alzheimer s is the world s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer s care, support and research. Each year more than 450,000 people of all ages and abilities come together in over 600 communities to reclaim the future for millions. Emery Place is joining the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's on September 26, We are committed to raising awareness and funds to support the Alzheimer's Association and we need your help. Together, we can become an unstoppable force against Alzheimer's disease. You can help in two ways: you can join us by walking with us or you can help us reach our goal by making a donation. We all have a reason to end Alzheimer's and we hope to make a big contribution in the fight against Alzheimer's and we'd be so grateful if you would join or sponsor us. 5 From Life Enrichment: Hannah Sloan July flew by! The residents have been keeping busy with all of our outings that we go on, exercising with Live 2B Healthy, music therapy, crafts, and entertainment. I have really enjoyed getting to know each resident as they move in! We are starting a new prize system for our Country Store! Each activity a resident attends, you will receive a ticket that you can use to purchase items from the Country Store! 6 From Maintenance: Derek Schindler As many of you know, the state requires us to do fire drills. Our drills will usually occur near the end of the month. The reason behind doing the drills is to test our alarms, control panel and evacuation protocol in case of a real fire. The doors at the front of the hallways will close to prevent fire from spreading in an event of an emergency. The fire department is automatically alerted by our system when the alarms are set off. It takes them around 5 minutes to get here. They will be the ones that will help us all to be safe. Once they arrive, they can help evacuate our residents and put out the fire. If you do see a fire or smoke, please pull the fire alarm and notify staff. Thanks for your patience on this very important issue! Nina got to bake her apple pie with cook, Dustin! From Culinary: Dustin Cheek This month I have been busy planning meals for events like our Fourth of July cookout. I ve been getting feed back from the residents and changing the menus. I look forward to hearing from you guys and getting suggestions and any new menu ideas. Stanley Healthcare We are pleased to announce that we use the emergency call system through Stanley Healthcare Solutions. For our residents, this means safety and security. As a reminder, as you enter and exit the building please push the green reset buttons after each door closes behind you. We need to also remember to spread this word to all family members and visitors as they come into the building. Thank you!
