3 Welcome to Uppsala! The Orientation Week is organised by the International Committee of the nations of Uppsala and Uppsala Student Union. You are most welcome to take part in as many activities as you like. During the opening hours of the welcome reception at Västgöta () nation (Västra Ågatan 18), the International Officer from Uppsala Student Union and members of the International Committee as well as several student volunteers will help you to get orientated and settled in to your new environment. Activities to join Some activities (not all) require you to sign up for them so we know approximately how many people will come. You can also pay for the activities (when required) during the opening hours at. If you cannot make it to during the opening hours (see the programme below for details), you can meet the International Officer at the Student Union during office hours. Student ID During the opening hours at (as well as later in the week from the International Officer s office) you can collect a temporary student ID, free of charge, which is valid during the orientation week. Throughout the term, you will have to present your real student ID together with your passport/id card at the entrance of a nation whenever alcohol is served. You can obtain your real student ID through signing up at a nation or the Student Union later. Practical tours The nations international secretaries will guide you around Uppsala (for approx. one hour) pointing out the important things to know; student related offices, buildings, nations, the Student Union, the closest bank, post office and other places of interest. We meet outside Västgöta. International Student Fair All the student nations and the Student Union, the Student Health Centre, some student organisations and others will be at the main university building on 29th of August to inform you about their activities and organisations, see the programme for details below. This is an important chance to get information on what you can be involved in during the semester and also to choose which nation to join. Note: Your choice of nation to join should be based on your own preferences according to your interests; you can almost always take part in any other nations activities as well.

4 The nations and Uppsala Student Union - Student Representatives working for and with you! During the semester, your nation will offer you a varied program of different activities, such as singing in a choir, theatre groups, working in the pub etc. All nations have international secretaries whom you can contact to get help to find which activity suits you. We ask you to keep in mind that we are constantly trying to make the Orientation Week as exciting as possible for you. Please check for any changes or additions to the schedule. The International Officers function is to represent all international students at the university and continuously works for making your situation better. You can come to her with any possible problem, be it with your studies or social aspects. If you are interested to become involved in the Student Union yourself, join the international work group at Uppsala Student Union. For more information, contact the International Officer at int@us.uu.se or come and see her between 9 am and 5 pm Monday-Friday at the Student Union. The nations international secretaries are gathered in the International Committee (IC). The International Committee will organise some cultural activities throughout the semester e.g. dinners with different themes, language exchanges and pub nights. Check out their Facebook page International Students of Uppsala University regularly as well as the nation guide One of the events of the committee is the International Gasque every semester. Tickets can be bought at during the opening hours. N.B. To take part in activities at a student nation, or to receive the benefits offered by the Student Union, you must be a member.
