1 Fachhochschule Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences Germany Social pedagogical approaches in social professions Due to history, education and political situations, we find that social professions in Europe are developing along different lines, on one hand towards standardization and on the other hand towards diversification. Both Social Worker and Social Pedagogue (and similar terms) stand for clearly distinguished professions in many European countries, and they also represent different theoretical traditions in the background of both professions. 2 In, we are engaged in promoting the social pedagogical approaches, using social pedagogy, social education or socio-educational care-work done by social pedagogues, social educators, socio-educational care-workers or even social workers which gives a specific additional gain to social intervention. Our aim in the seminar is to explore this specificity. We want to clarify the social pedagogical approaches in the field of social professions. To initiate this debate, we raise three questions as incentives: 1. What is the 'social' aspect in the social pedagogical intervention? What is the difference between school pedagogy and education, family pedagogy and education and what we call social pedagogy or social education? 2. What is the 'pedagogical' aspect in social professions? What is the educational dimension of social intervention, in some countries expressed in a particular profession, in others included under a common roof called social work? 3. In the Bologna process, how do our universities deal with the polarity between standardization and diversification? 5 Workshops: Call for paper presentation If you are interested in presenting a paper related to practice, education or research about the issues of the seminar, you are invited to make a short presentation of 30 minutes in a workshop. New, challenging and controversial views, and prepared incentives for the discussion are welcome. The seminar will be an active meeting point for colleagues throughout Europe to discuss these questions. To be able to do this, much of the time will be reserved for workshops. You will receive the decision about participation in workshops before end of January FORUM: During the seminar on Thursday 22 nd April, there will also be time for meetings of existing thematic groups as well as occasions to create new networks. Getting to Osnabrueck: By plane The closest airport is FMO Muenster/Osnabrueck in about 30 km/45 min. distance by car from Osnabrueck.
