2 EDO Report Bridget Sara 13/02/0-12/03/09 Adelaide Plains Marketing (APM) The 2009 Adelaide Plains Cup Festival took up a lot of my time last month and was successfully held on Friday 27 February Sunday March 1. There were nineteen events held from Two Wells to Snowtown and I was lucky enough to attend eight events across the weekend. Individual event feedback is still being received and will be presented to the Adelaide Plains Marketing committee in April. Suggestions are already being received for next year s festival. The Adelaide Plains Emu awards recognise people or groups that have stuck their neck out and had a go in the Adelaide Plains. The award presentation ceremony was held at the Snowtown Memorial Hall on the Friday morning at the launch of the festival with 74 people attending. The overall emu award winner was Lorraine Samuels, a wildlife rescuer from Snowtown, who will use the $600 donated by Churches of Christ Lift Care to pay for vet bills. Other category winners were: Individual: Lorraine Samuels (Snowtown) Business: Happy Hearts Fitness (Mallala) Event: Free as Air Festival (Snowtown) Community Group: Owen Community Centre Committee Cropping Committee (Owen) Balaklava High School Trade Training Centre The Balaklava High School, in conjunction with Burra Community School, Clare High School and Riverton and Districts High School, submitted a funding application under the Australian Government s Trade Training Centres in School program in October 2008 and were advised last week that they were successful in receiving a grant for $2.9 million for new equipment to run training for students in areas of engineering, agriculture, automotive and building and constructions. Yorke Employment and Skills Formation (ESF) Network Planning has begun for the strategic plan and the 2009/10 implementation plan. The Strategic plan will be developed in conjunction with the Southern Flinders Regional Development Board (RDB) and Mid North RDB. Each region will then develop individual implementation plans. The Yorke ESF Network held a planning day of February 18 to discuss current issues and strategies to assist to address the issues. A draft implementation plan will be provided to the Network at the April meeting. Two projects remain active from 2007/08 action plan. They are the business ticket to train project and the build your career project. It was identified that many trades people on the region do not have the nationally accredited white card and we will be utilising the remaining business ticket to train funds to assist people to gain their white card. Thirteen people completed white card training in Minlaton on February 25. Names are being taken to determine if there is demand for a second course. Training for the build your career project is now complete and participants are being assisted to find work. The 2008/09 action plan is progressing well with 146 participants (target 168), 36 employment outcomes (target 76) and 2316 accredited training hours delivered (target 8320).

3 Project in Brief Council CEO, Phil Barry and I have met with service providers to investigate the possibility of affordable rental housing in the Wakefield Regional Council area. The service providers have applied to the National Affordable Housing Scheme and letters of support have been sent from Council and the Yorke Regional Development Board. Upcoming Events of Interest Wednesday 25 th March Talking Business Workshop Port Wakefield Sports Club 10-4pm. Talking Business is a highly specialised workshop for business leaders who need to enhance their communication and presentation skills in the global marketplace. In this full-day workshop, participants will learn to articulate the values of their business and to present with confidence and authority.
