2 1 CAREER TRAINING PROGRAMS All courses, unless noted, are conducted at the LCCC Main Campus in Nanticoke. Y Pharmacy Technician (5.0 CEU s) - $999 Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility is filling prescriptions according to doctors orders. Career opportunities may include work in retail pharmacies, mail order pharmacies, home infusion pharmacies, long term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, pharmacy benefit managers and large industrial complexes. The course textbook is not included in the tuition. 15 Sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays October 6 to November :30 p.m. Y Nurse Aide (120 Contact Hours) - $1250 This 15-session course is offered both day and evening as well as a weekend opportunity. All potential students are required to possess a high school diploma or GED and are required to participate in an Intake Session. All required authorized paperwork and an Intake Session must be completed before official course enrollment. Please call the Continuing Education Office at (ext. 7495) to schedule an In-take Session. September 8 to 28 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. October 5 to 29 Evenings/Weekends Nov. 9 to Dec. 2 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Phlebotomy Technician (14.0 CEU s) - $ sessions 6-10 p.m. Mondays & Thursdays September 14 - December 14 The goal of this program is to focus on the techniques, procedures, and issues pertaining to the proper collection of blood specimens for routine clinical laboratory testing. Career opportunities for those successfully completing the program include employment in hospitals, clinics, and doctors offices. PLEASE NOTE: This schedule is just a partial listing of courses and programs that are offered. Visit our website at for course descriptions, other courses, and information. ENROLL EARLY! Decisions to hold a class are based upon enrollment approximately one week prior to the start date. Y EKG Technician (6.0 CEU s) - $595 The classroom instruction includes the following topics: Patient communications, confidentiality, recording and reporting procedures, basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, applicable medical terminology, and understanding of interference, measurements, and rhythms. Career opportunities may include numerous places throughout the healthcare industry, hospitals, doctors offices, cardiac rehabilitation clinics and other medical settings. EKG Technitions provide doctors and other clinicians with vital diagnostic information regarding the electrical activity of the patient s heart. 10 Sessions Tuesdays October 6 to December 8 6 to 10 p.m. Classroom dates only. Go to for information on clinical hours Bartending Basics and Beyond* (3.5 CEU s) - $439 This training program is designed to prepare you for a full-time or part-time career in the bartending field. Upon completion of the training and a passing grade on the RAMP (Responsible Alcohol Management Program) examination, you will be certified in Pennsylvania for two years. 9 Sessions Mondays and Wednesdays September 28 to October 26 6 to 10 p.m. *Tuition includes bar kit and RAMP Training. All participants must be 21 years of age or older. Proper ID is required. PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVING (24 CEUs) - $4,500 This program is dedicated to providing quality training for anyone wanting to be employed as a professional entry level tractor-trailer driver. Our program emphasizes safety and driver courtesy as well as the skills needed to operate the equipment successfully. Instruction includes both classroom and road/range driving, both day and evening experiences and a variety of terrain experiences. Call to register. Day Courses: 30 Sessions (Three classes offered) September 28 to November 6 November 9 to December 17 Evening Courses: 55 Sessions (Two classes offered) September 14 to November 20 Y Courses with this symbol qualify as a PLUS 50 course described later in this booklet. 2
3 3 INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE PROGRAM The Industrial Maintenance Technician program is designed to prepare each participant for an entry level position in Automated Manufacturing Industries. Instruction includes both the theory and hands-on skills needed to start a career in Industrial Electricity, Motor Controls and Programmable Logic Controllers. The program s state of the art upgrades include integrated motion control (Servo systems) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) training using Allen Bradley systems. Industrial Electricity I (32 hours/3.2 CEUs) - $ Sessions 6 to 9:12 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, September 1 to October 1 Also available: Industrial Electricity II and III Call for dates and times! Programmable Logic Controllers I - II - III (32 hours/3.2 CEUs) - $650 Dates and times for these courses have not been announced. Please call for updates. Industrial Motor Controls I - II - III (32 hours/3.2 CEUs) - $460 Dates and times for these courses have not been announced. Please call for updates. English Language Training is offered through the Multicultural Learning Center located at the LCCC Hazleton Learning Center. Its programs provide training in life skills and language acquisition. Courses include Basic ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING at Suite 108, 100 W. Broad Street in Hazleton. English, English Reading and Writing, Conversational English and Spanish GED. The Multicultural Learning Center is located PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES PA Vehicle Emissions Testing for Licensed Mechanics - $15 The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has developed a web-based training program/test for technicians to become certified in the Pennsylvania Vehicle Emissions Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Program. You must schedule an appointment in order to take the test. Please call to schedule a test time. Classes conducted in LCCC s Technology Center (Main Campus in Nanticoke). Test Dates: Wednesday, September 16 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 21 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 18 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 16 5:30 p.m. PA Safety Inspection for Licensed Mechanics - $180 3 sessions Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Category I (two different sections offered) September 13, 20, & 27 and November 1, 8, & 15 $45 each additional category (motorcycle, heavy truck/bus). Classes conducted in the Auto Bays located in the LCCC Technology Center (Main Campus in Nanticoke). OSHA Regulated Fork Lift Training - $200 Wednesday, September 30 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Class conducted in LCCC s Public Safety Training Institute, Main Campus in Nanticoke Our forklift operator training course covers the topics as specified in OSHA Regulation 29 CFR Section L. Forklift dynamics will be covered in detail including: centers of gravity, counterweights, lateral stability, longitudinal stability, load centers, lift heights, name plates, stability triangle and its effects on the vehicle and braking and speed effects on stability. The student will receive a certificate of completion upon completion of the course. ICD 10 Coding Training - $90 2 Sessions Wednesdays September 9 & 16 9 a.m. to Noon If you are already familiar with ICD-9 Coding, here is critical information for your career. ICD-10 Coding will be implemented effective 10/1/15. This ICD-10 Coding program is for experienced coders who have been trained or have experience in ICD-9 Coding. Students are required to have an ICD-10 -CM Code Book for the first day of class (ext. 7495)
4 5 The Art of Pizza and Stromboli - $109* Saturdays (2) September 12 and 19 9 a.m. to Noon Come join our professional baking staff for 2 sessions of pizza baking. We ll cover everything from the making of the dough to the sauces and cheeses in this informative handson class. On the menu is thin crust pizza, fried Old Forge pizza, and of course, a variety of strombolis. No prior knowledge is necessary and all are encouraged to attend. All culinary courses include a $20 per session/per participant materials fee. All recipes created will be distributed at the completion of each course and take home samples will be plentiful. Bring your containers. Instructor: Kim McLendon Soups and Sauces - $109* Saturdays (2) October 17 and 24 9 a.m. to Noon This course is designed to provide participants with the basics of creating your own soups and sauces. You will learn how to create from scratch stock, consommé, and cream soups. Come find out what the 5 Mother Sauces are and how to make them. All recipes created will be distributed at the completion of each course and take home samples will be plentiful. Bring your containers. PERSONAL ENRICHMENT COURSES That please the taste buds Pastas and Sauces - $109* Saturdays (2) November 7 and 14 9 a.m. to Noon Learn to make homemade ravioli, gnocchi, tortellini, linguini, tomato-basil sauce, marinara, brown butter sage sauce and/or tomato cream sauce alfredo. All recipes created will be distributed at the completion of each course and take home samples will be plentiful. Bring your containers. Instructor: Chef Angelo Santelli Christmas Cookies - $109* Saturdays (2) December 5 & 12 9 a.m. to Noon Learn to make cookies like the pro s -- biscotti, butter cookies, Linzer tarts and more. Just in time to share with family and friends for the holidays. All recipes created will be distributed at the completion of each course and take home samples will be plentiful. Bring your containers. Instructor: Chef Angelo Santelli Kids and Cookies - $49* Saturday, November a.m. to 2 p.m. Children Ages 9-11 Does your child love to help out in the kitchen with Holiday Cookies? This one-day session will provide both basic culinary instruction and expose participants to creating and designing their own assortment of holiday cookies. Instructor: Chef Kim McLendon Applications for this children s course are available through the Continuing Education Office, and must be completed for each child attending. This class is conducted at the LCCC Educational Conference Center, Building 10. All food classes are conducted in the College s Joseph A. Paglianite Culinary Institute located in downtown Nanticoke. 6
5 7 PERSONAL ENRICHMENT COURSES Basic Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) Camera Photography - $89 4 sessions Mondays 6-9 p.m. September 14 to October 5 Did you make a major investment in a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) system only to find out that you re using it like a lowcost point-and-shoot camera? Break free from program mode and learn about the basic features of your DSLR camera. In this class you will learn about manual and automatic camera settings, ISO/ASA settings, different lenses, use of flash settings, and much more. Learn some great tips for composing better images, understanding natural and artificial light, using the camera light meter effectively, storing and managing image files, using computer imaging software, and digitally manipulating images. Basic Digital Photograph Editing - $89 4 sessions Thursdays 6-9 p.m. October 22 to November 12 Modern digital photography doesn t end with the camera. There are a variety of digital photograph editing techniques you can utilize to make your photographs better than simple out-of-the-camera images. Learn about digital photograph organization, optimization, and enhancement, including retouching techniques. The class will use Windows computers with a popular photo editing software to help students develop an understanding of basic image editing techniques and an awareness of advanced digital image editing skills. This hands-on workshop will require students to provide personal images for some of the course projects. Y Computers for the Terrified - $110 4 sessions Tuesdays September 22 to October 13 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This course will provide you with the ABC s of your computer including basic computer concepts and applications, navigating through basic tools and commands, Windows programs and file management. Textbook available at LCCC Bookstore for an additional fee. Y Beyond Computers for the Terrified - $110 4 sessions Tuesdays 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. October 27 to November 17 Now that you ve learned the ABC s of your computer, it s time to get to the 123 s of it. The course teaches the basics of Microsoft Office, including creating basic letter in Word, a basic worksheet in Excel and finally, you will create and deliver a presentation in PowerPoint. Refund Schedule: All Courses: 100% refund when the College cancels a course. 100% refund if you withdrawal from a course one week or more before the first class session. $50 fee will be deducted from your tuition for withdrawal within one week of the first class session and prior to the second class session to cover registration and administrative fees. No refund if you withdrawal from a course after the start of the second class. Exception: Nurse Aide no refund after the start of the first day of class. Program requires students to attend the entire 96 hours of trainings. On-line courses - No refund is given with in 48 working hours prior to the beginning of the class and/or after receiving access to the course. All other programs, courses and trainings offered through the department (excluding on-line courses): No refund is given for any courses after the start of the first class session. Cancellation must be made at least 48 working hours prior to the start of the first class. If you paid by credit card your refund will be credited to your account within one week of the cancelled course or written withdrawal.
