2 Medical Assistant Health Sciences The Career Center will prepare you to become a Medical Assistant in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, clinics, multiphysician groups, private doctor s offices, and more. The program includes four 8-week sessions followed by a 160 hour externship, allowing you to earn your certification in as little as 12 months. Responsibilities of a Medical Assistant vary, so this class teaches a variety of administrative and clinical skills to handle any situation. Next class 1/4/16; Mondays & Tuesdays; 6-9pm $1900 Payment plan available for this program. Certified Nurse Aide Certified Nurse Aides are in high demand at numerous health care facilities, from hospitals to assisted living centers. Every month the Career Center offers a five week course with 80 training hours. Our experienced, practicing instructors will help prepare you to pass the Clinical Skills Competency test and become a certified C.N.A. in the State of Michigan. Students provide their blue scrubs, box of disposable examination gloves, and are responsible for their testing fee. New class begins each month $850 Visit for schedule details. Health Sciences Patient Care Technician If you are looking to be a versatile health care professional, this program will prepare you to apply for high-demand jobs such as certified nurse aide, patient care technician, technical care associate, phlebotomy technician, electrocardiography technician, nurse technician, and more. This program will prepare you to take the Health Care Technician national certification test and work in a variety of health care facilities, from hospitals to rehabilitation and assisted living facilities, clinics, home health care agencies, doctors offices, and nursing homes. Medical Insurance Billing & Coding Specialist Employment for medical coders is expected to grow 20 percent much faster than the average for all occupations. Technicians with strong understanding of technology and medical insurance will be in particularly high demand. Our experienced instructor will help you learn the basics of ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HPCS coding along with the application of all three conversions. 4 Health Sciences Phlebotomy & Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician In this class you will learn everything from basic cardiovascular terminology, anatomy and physiology of the heart, and the functions of the circulatory system. Our instructor will outline the responsibilities of Phlebotomy and EKG technicians and provide clinical laboratory opportunities to help you develop entry level skills including venipuncture, capillary draws, specimen collection for laboratory analysis, and the three most common EKG instruments, (holter monitor, 3-channel, and 12-lead single channel). Mondays & Tuesdays; 1/4-2/23; 6-9pm $700 Medical Office Assistant The medical office assistant is someone who has a strong desire to work in the growing and stable health care field, but who does not have an interest in direct patient care. This program will prepare students to work in an administrative capacity by teaching topics such as medical terminology, medical law and ethics, office procedures, electronic medical records, and medical insurance billing and coding. 5 Start Health Sciences Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) This one-session, four hour workshop certifies you for an American Heart Association care for completing a basic life support course. Wednesday; 3/2; 6-10pm $40 Certifications Our certified nurse aide program is approved by the state of Michigan and leads directly to state certification. All of our other health sciences programs are accredited through the National Center for Competency testing (NCCT) which is a highly recognized credential. Students who successfully complete a program are eligible to take the national exam and become nationally certified, a great advantage in the competitive health care industry! 6 Arts and Communication Digital Photography I This is the most basic digital SLR (camera with removable lenses) class available. This class will teach you the common functions of your digital SLR camera including, aperture and shutter control, depth of focus, lenses, flashes, and other accessories. Learn to improve your composition, people, and close-up photography skills. Wednesdays; 1/13 2/17; 6-9pm $120 Digital Photography II This intermediate level class will allow you to expand on the skills you learned in Digital Photography I. Subjects covered include night photography, close up, photo studio, and outdoor people photography. This class features plenty of hands-on learning. Wednesdays; 2/24 3/23; 6-9pm $100 Portrait Studio Photography Pre-Requisite: Digital Photography I. Students will enjoy using our portrait studio to lean how to take professional shots. Tuesdays; 2/2-2/23; 6-9pm $80 Adobe Lightroom Lightroom is a RAW file conversion offered by Adobe allowing users to manage and edit multiple images at once using Adobe LR interface. Learn to import, organize, adjust color, crop, rotate, and straighten images and much more! Tuesdays; 3/1 3/22; 6-9pm $80 Metal Art Workshop Have a fun night out and come make a beautiful decoration in our professional welding lab! 7 Engineering/Manufacturing and Industrial Technology Beginning Automotive Technology Beginning Auto Body is designed for the beginning auto student who wants to learn basic dent removal and plastic filler work. Basic painting and welding also are included. Be ready to start hands-on projects the first night of class. Tuesdays; 1/12-2/16; 6-10pm $210 Automotive Technology This course is designed for the auto body student who has some basic skills and wants to work independently on personal projects. The instructor will guide you through your work and provide professional expertise to students. Session 1: Tuesdays; 1/26-2/23; 6-10pm $175 Session 2: Tuesdays; 3/1-3/29; 6-10 pm $175 Introduction to Welding The course is designed for the beginning welder or the experienced welder looking to upgrade his or her skills. The course is selfdirected welding experience. You can learn the particular process you need without wasting time on skills you do not want to work on. You will learn about configuring operating system, file and folder management, networks and network configuration. This course will also prepare you for the CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals certificate exam. Wednesdays; 1/13 1/27; 6-9pm $60 Computer Office Skills II Microsoft Excel is taught and practiced in this module as this is an in demand skill for people choosing to work in an office environment. Wednesdays; 2/10 2/24; 6-9pm $60 Basic Office Skills This module is an introduction to the skills needed by today s administrative assistant and includes bookkeeping skills as well as practice in using common office equipment. Wednesdays; 3/2 3/16; 6-9pm; $60 Presentation Skills Today s administrative assistants have increasing responsibilities and are often called upon to train staff and deliver professional presentations. This module will help students develop skills to both prepare and deliver power ful presentations through PowerPoint.and public speaking instruction.
