3 Conference Overview Opening Remarks Joanne Zeroske, BSN, MBA President, Euclid Hospital Keynote Address I Neuropsychiatric Aspects of Alzheimer's Disease: Pharmacological Management Jeffrey L. Cummings, MD Director, Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas; Andrea L. and Joseph F. Hahn, MD, Professor of Neurotherapeutics, Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute Dr. Cummings contributions in the field of Alzheimer s disease have been recognized through the Henderson Award of the American Geriatrics Society (2006), the Research Award of the John Douglas French Alzheimer s Research Foundation (2008), and the Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Award of the national Alzheimer s Association (2008). In 2010, he received the Legacy Award from the Tichi Wilkerson Kassel Movement Therapy Foundation and was honored by the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry with their Distinguished Scientist Award. Dr. Cummings was featured in the Gentleman s Quarterly (June 2009), Vogue (September 2009) and Vanity Fair (September 2009) as a Rockstar of Science. He was featured in Beverly Hills Lifestyles (2010) for his many scientific accomplishments. Dr. Cummings is the author of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), which has become the most commonly used tool for characterizing behavioral disturbances in dementia syndromes and for measuring the effect of antidementia therapies on neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer s disease and other dementias. Dr. Cummings was formerly the director of the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer s Disease Research at UCLA. He is past president of the Behavioral Neurology Society and of the American Neuropsychiatric Association. He has authored or edited 30 books and published more than 600 peer-reviewed papers. Keynote Address II Geriatric Orthopaedics: Lessons Learned Mary-Blair Matejczyk, MD Staff, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Cleveland Clinic; Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Ohio State University After earning her Doctor of Medicine degree cum laude at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completing her internship at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Matejczyk was Cleveland Clinic s first female orthopaedic surgery resident in 1977, and the first female to join the department s staff in She is board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and received the Ohio Occupational Therapy Association Outstanding Supportive Physician Award in Her practice focuses primarily on geriatric patients. That population is growing, and the people I see are so vital, active and interesting, she says. We re operating on people who are well into their 90s and are still active and independent. It s a joy to be able to do the surgery safely and without complications, and to make such a big impact in their lives. Plenary Lecture House Calls Revisited: New Trends in Medical Care Steven H. Landers, MD, MPH Director, Cleveland Clinic Center for Home Care and Community Rehabilitation; Assistant Professor of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Dr. Landers directs home health, hospice, home infusion pharmacy, home respiratory therapy, home cardiac monitoring, home visiting physician programs and community nursing facility relations for Cleveland Clinic s home health service line. Under his direction, 505 employees deliver more than one million patient days of care annually. Dr. Landers earned his Master of Public Health degree from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and is board-certified.
