It is a wrk-riented experience, which gives ur participants the pprtunity t wrk under qualified cunselrs t begin t learn and understand the demands and respnsibility f a cunselr's jb. CIT s will be selected thrugh an applicatin prcess t experience the fun, stress and rewards f camp as they assist the camp cunselrs. DUTIES: CIT s will assist camp staff leaders and help yuth in arts and crafts, grup games, sprts, and utdr activities. The CIT s will ensure the safety f prgram participants at all times and assist in maintaining rganizatin f the site by cmpleting tasks assigned. They shuld fllw instructins efficiently and effectively, requiring minimal guidance while cmpleting assigned duties. CIT s shuld take the initiative t assist site staff in daily duties. It is imprtant that a CIT maintains a thrugh knwledge f all plicies and prcedures and make sure they are fllwed at all times. CIT s will assist in the supervisin f yuth while n excursins and maintain a psitive envirnment fr prgram participants. CIT s shuld strive t be a rle mdel fr prgram participants. Please be prepared t perfrm ther duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Wrk primarily in a cmmunity center facility, bth indrs and utdrs in varying types f weather and lcatins. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: CIT s must have a desire t wrk with yuth and t interact in a psitive manner with all ages and backgrunds f children. This psitin requires a desire t develp leadership skills, prblem slving abilities and decisin making skills. CIT s must have the ability t self-mtivate, peers and yuth in an enthusiastic manner. CIT s must be reliable, hnest, creative and willing t fllw thrugh n all assigned tasks. Must have reliable transprtatin t and frm camp and must wrk Mnday thrugh Friday f all assigned weeks. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be 14 years r lder starting the 2015-2016 schl year. Experience wrking with yuth in areas such as baby-sitting, scuts, church grups, sprts r any ther vlunteer wrk is preferred. Qualified applicants will psses a clean and prfessinal appearance and attitude and are cmfrtable wrking with the public. PARENT/ CIT ORIENTATION: We will hst a mandatry parent/cit rientatin befre summer starts. We will g ver the expectatins and respnsibilities f the CIT psitin in mre depth. PROGRESS REPORT: Each CIT will be assessed n their prgress every tw weeks thrughut their time with us. They must maintain an average rating in rder t cntinue in the prgram. If they drp belw average, they will have tw weeks t bring it up t average. If they fail t d s, they will be asked t leave the prgram.
APPLICATION PROCESS Step One: Interested candidates must cmplete the CIT Applicatin Packet and pay the ne-time $30 applicatin fee. Cmpleted packets must be returned n later than May 8th, 2015. In rder t ensure an applicatin will be cnsidered, the applicant must turn in the tw attached reference frms (persnal & teacher). Step Tw: Interview will be cnducted the week f May 18 th, 2015. A staff member will cntact the CIT applicant t set-up the interview. Step Three: Placement decisins will be based n the applicatin, interviews, and reference frms. Placement decisins will be made by May 29 th, 2015. Applicants will receive an acceptance letter and list f required training dates. Step Fur: Cnfirm that applicants can attend all required training and will cmmit t a minimum f fur weeks as a CIT. Please be aware that space is limited and nly selected individuals will be accepted int the prgram. CIT s must be able t wrk in any assigned prgram r camp In rder t maintain a high-caliber prgram and ffer adequate pprtunities t meet ur gals, we must maintain a manageable and apprpriately sized prgram. The CIT prgram is a vlunteer psitin and accepted applicants will nt receive payment. Vlunteering in the cunselr-in training prgram des nt guarantee a future psitin with Tukwila Parks and Recreatin. Cmmunicatin regarding the applicatin prcess and the prgram shuld be between the applicant and the Parks and Recreatin Department staff. The mst successful applicants treat the applicatin and hiring prcess just like any jb applicatin. Parents shuld feel free t help in certain ways, like guiding the applicant in selecting references and helping them learn t prfessinally apply and interview. At the same time, please remember we seek candidates wh are independent, mature and self-mtivated. It is ur hpe that parents help t cultivate these traits by allwing their teens t take full respnsibility fr their CIT applicatin.
