MITRAC Powerlab Zürich Power laboratory We operate one of the world s most advanced power laboratories. Opened in 2009, the almost 1,400-square-metre powerlab is used to test new propulsion technologies, products and systems of all power ranges under real operating conditions. An additional 320-square-metre area is available for motors, loads and transformers. The power supply infrastructure provides high voltage AC and DC power for testing with any common railway electrification system worldwide. The infrastructure is designed to conserve energy by, for example, converting mechanical motor power back to electric power and using an efficient cooling system. For complete testing of diesel-electric propulsion systems, dedicated diesel generators are located adjacent to the laboratory building. Outside the lab, electrified test tracks are available for commissioning and testing complete rail vehicles.
