7 Answers to Green Issues: Energy Efficiency Higher Speed and Lower Emissions Challenge Heavy haul trucks are used in mines for transporting rock. Every hour, the 3,600 horsepower utility vehicles use up to 450 liters of diesel. Answer Benefit Siemens developed AC drive systems for heavy trucks used to transport material in surface mining, for which the diesel generators operate in the optimal speed range. Up to 30% fuel is saved by giving the diesel motor regular breaks. A truck loaded with 300 tonnes of rock can feed back 3 megawatts of power into the grid while braking.
