MCAFEE ENTERPRISE EDITION V 7.1.0 This document describes how to download, install, configure, and run McAfee anti-virus software. All La Salle University resident students are required to have McAfee running on their PC at all times. Failure to do so violates the La Salle University network acceptable use policy. Before You Begin Please note the system requirements before installing McAfee Enterprise Edition. System Requirements Requirement Description Processor Intel Pentium or Celeron processor running a minimum of 166MHz. Browser Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.0 or later. Memory 32MB RAM minimum. Free Disk Space 20MB A complete installation of all the program s features and components occupies approximately 20MB of disk space on your computer. Other A CD-ROM drive or an Internet connection. Supported Operating Systems Windows NT Workstation 4.0, with Service Pack 6 or 6a. Windows 2000 Professional, with Service Pack 1, 2, 3, or 4. Windows XP Home, Professional, and Tablet PC Edition, with Service Pack 1. Download Procedure The McAfee anti-virus software is available for download on the ResNet Services channel on the mylasalle portal on the student services tab. Follow the steps below to download McAfee. 1. Go to http://my.lasalle.edu. Enter your username and password. 2. Click on the Student Services tab. 3. To the right, under the heading ResNet Services, click the Downloads link. 4. Under the heading Anti-Virus Software, click the Download link for McAfee Enterprise v 7.1.0 (Windows XP, 2000). 5. Click Save, and save the file to your Desktop. 6. Unzip the file, then proceed to the Installation Steps of the guide. McAfee Enterprise Edition v 7.1.0: Installation & Configuration 3
Installation Steps 1. Double click on the Setup.exe file in the McAfee Enterprise v 7.1.0 folder. 2. The setup screen will appear. Click Next. 3. The License Agreement screen will appear. Select I Accept, then click Next to continue. McAfee Enterprise Edition v 7.1.0: Installation & Configuration 4
4. Select Typical Installation, then click Next to continue. 5. You are now ready to install. Click Install to begin. 6. The installation is complete. It is time to update your virus definitions to ensure that you are protected against the most recent viruses. If you are currently online, make sure that Update Now and Run On Demand Scan are checked, click Finish, and McAfee will automatically update your virus definitions. If you are not currently online, uncheck Update Now, click Finish, and allow your computer to scan for viruses. You can run Auto Update when you are connected to the Internet or update from the CD. Scheduling the Tasks It is important to schedule McAfee to run tasks automatically because Scheduling McAfee to Update Follow the steps below to schedule McAfee to update automatically with the latest virus definitions. 1. Right click on the McAfee icon in your system tray. Click on VirusScan Console. 2. Double click on AutoUpdate. 3. Select Schedule on the panel. 4. Click on the Schedule tab of the next panel. McAfee Enterprise Edition v 7.1.0: Installation & Configuration 6
5. Set the Scheduler to run weekly at a designated time of your choice. Also, select the day(s) at the bottom of the screen on which you would like AutoUpdate to run. This will keep your virus definitions up-to-date and ensure your PC is protected from the newest viruses. Click Apply, then OK. Your PC is now set to update its virus definitions as you have specified. Scheduling McAfee to Scan Follow the steps below to schedule McAfee to scan automatically for infected files. 1. Right click on the McAfee icon in your system tray. Click on VirusScan Console. 2. Double click on Scan All Fixed Disks. 3. Select Schedule on the panel. 4. Make sure that the Enable checkbox is checked. If it is not, click on the white checkbox to enable scanning. 5. Click on the Schedule tab of the panel. Select how often and at what time you want McAfee to scan for viruses on your PC. It is recommended to scan daily or weekly. 6. Click Apply, then OK. Your PC is now set to scan for viruses at the time and frequency you selected. Manual Tasks Running the Update Manually Follow the steps below to manually update McAfee with the latest virus definitions. 1. Right click on the McAfee tray icon and select Update Now. 2. The Update screen will appear and automatically run. When it is done, you may manually close the window by clicking Close, or you may allow it to automatically close. Running the Scan Manually Follow the steps below to manually scan for infected files. 1. Right click on the McAfee tray icon and select On-Demand Scan. 2. When the On-Demand Scan screen appears, click on Scan Now. DAT Files DAT files are the virus definition files for McAfee Anti-Virus software. It is important to keep them as up-to-date as possible to ensure your PC is protected against the newest and most dangerous viruses. McAfee Enterprise Edition v 7.1.0: Installation & Configuration 9
Super DAT Files Follow the steps below to update McAfee with the Super DAT file. 1. Go to http://my.lasalle.edu. Log in with your username and password. 2. Click on the Student Services tab. 3. To the right, under the heading ResNet Services, click the Downloads link. 4. Scroll down to the Anti-Virus section, then click on the Download link next to McAfee Updates (DAT) Super. Save the file to your desktop. 5. Double click on the file you just downloaded. The setup screen will appear. Click Next. 6. When the anti-virus software is done updating click Finish. You have manually updated your virus definitions. Weekly DAT Files Follow the steps below to update McAfee with the Weekly DAT file. 1. Go to http://my.lasalle.edu. Log in with your username and password. 2. Click on the Student Services tab. 3. To the right, under the heading ResNet Services, click the Downloads link. 4. Scroll down to the Anti-Virus section, then click on the Download link next to McAfee Updates (DAT) Weekly. Save the file to your desktop. 5. Double click on the file you just downloaded.
