2 VPi 32.15E System Requirements Minimum Requirements POWERQUEST Catalog VPi 32.15E Network Management Interface software requires the following minimum system configuration: Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP Professional edition operating systems (with Service Pack 2 or higher) Personal computer with Pentium 4 processor or higher, 1 GHz or higher 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM minimum 40 GB of free hard disk space in drive path C (100 GB recommended) VGA or Super VGA color monitor (800 x 600 pixels, 16 colors minimum) 24X or higher CD-ROM drive 104 key Windows keyboard Microsoft -compatible mouse LAN: (1) 10/100 Base T RJ-45 port (preconfigured) at least one unassigned ISA slot printer and printer drivers must be installed for every log printer Also refer to any drawings that are provided with the system (network card, wiring diagram, etc.). Warnings POWERQUEST Catalog VPi 32.15E Network Management Interface software allows a user (after entering a password) to control load transfer and retransfer and generator operation. These precautions must be followed by all users: WARNING Be sure that Users to whom you give access are knowledgeable enough to have control of load transfer and of the generator. WARNING Verify that conditions are safe for starting the engine generator and for load transfer before you transfer or retransfer an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS). WARNING Fill in the ATS Forms in the back of this manual. Be sure that you enter correct information about each Automatic Transfer Switch and that address recorded on the ATS Forms corresponds with the address set in the Controller. 3 VPi 32.15E Installation 1-1 How to Install the Software POWERQUEST Catalog VPi 32.15E Network Management Interface software includes a CD-ROM and a license number. The setup.exe program takes you through the installation with on-screen instructions. Note: Windows 2000, XP requires Administration rights to install this software. 1. Load the VPi 32.15E Install CD into the PC s CD-ROM drive. The PC should automatically launch the setup.exe file (if the PC is set-up for autorun). If the installation does not start automatically, click Start on the taskbar, then choose Run from the Start menu. In the dialog box type the filename setup.exe. Use (your CD drive letter):\setup.exe (e:\setup.exe for example). Click OK. The PowerQuest logo displays during installation process. 2. The Welcome screen displays after the CD is read. To proceed click Next to continue or click Cancel to quit. 3. The Software License Agreement screen displays. Please read it carefully. If you agree to its terms, click Yes. 4. The User Information screen displays. Type your Name, your Company, and the Serial number provided with VPi 32.15E CD-ROM. To proceed click Next. Continued on next page.
4 1-2 Installation VPi 32.15E 5. The Choose Destination Location screen displays. Use the default destination directory which is C:\VPi. Click Next. 6. The Select Program Folder screen displays. Use the default folder which is VPi3215E. Click Next. 7. The Copying Windows Systems files dialog box displays. These screens show you the actual installation status 8. The Setup Complete screen displays. Click Finish. Remove the CD-ROM and return it to its case. Keep it in a safe place along with the Serial number. You might consider restarting Windows to initialize the system before running the VPi 32.15E software. Notice that right after start-up of Windows, there will be an icon on the desktop which you can double click to launch VPi 32.15E. Continued on next page.
5 VPi 32.15E Installation 1-3 Windows Xp Theme Setting For VPi installation on Windows Xp system, the Windows theme must be set to Windows Classic. You can change this setting through the Display Properties, Themes tab. See below. WARNING This is an important setting that corrects Vpi s issue with Windows Xp s GDI requirement. If not configured accordingly, it will result in memory leakage in Vpi and can eventually terminate the application unexpectedly.
6 VPi 32.15E Setup 2-1 Getting Started After you have installed the POWERQUEST Catalog VPi 32.15E software, set up the communication parameters in the software and be sure that the Catalog 5150 Connectivity Modules, 4000 & 7000 Series, Series 300, and Group 6A/7A ATS products and Data Monitors / Power Managers are set correctly. Note: Each ATS and Data Monitor (DM) / Power Manager (PM) must be set for a unique communication address (starting with address 1) and the communication speed set to the same baud rate. Refer to the Connectivity Module Catalog 5150 Installation Manual Note: You need to have a list of all 4000 & 7000 Series, Series 300, and Group 6A/7A Automatic Transfer Switches ( ,436,434,447,448) with the following information for each ATS (up to 32): Catalog No. Ampere & Voltage Ratings Serial No. Address (set in the Controller) Location Tag Name (your designation for the ATS) Tip Fill in the ATS forms included at the back of this manual. How to start and setup the VPi 32.15E software After all of the above requirements are completed (see the Notes above) you can start the software and set it up. 1. Double click the POWERQUEST icon on the Windows desktop. Click Master. 2. Click the Master icon on Local Configuration Interface Screen to display the User Access Editor screen. Type the Master User (assigned by ASCO during installation), press the Tab key, type the Master Password (assigned by ASCO), then click OK. continued on next page
7 2-2 Setup VPi 32.15E 3. Click Add User then click Set to proceed. Type Accessname of the first user and their Password. Click Save or click Cancel to start over. Repeat this process for all users that you want to be able to control the VPi 32.15E software (and the associated ATSs). CAUTION Be sure that Users to whom you give access are knowledgeable enough to have control of load transfer and of the generator. 4. Click Return to proceed. 5. Now click the Login icon on Connection Interface Screen to display the Password Security Check box. Enter a User name, their Password, and click Log On/Off. Click Login
8 VPi 32.15E Setup 2-3 Scanning the Network 1. Click the Connect to ATS button on Local Configuration Interface Screen. 2. The Network Information screen appears. On the toolbar click the Scan Network button. Click Connect to ATS 3. A warning screen appears. Read this carefully so that you understand what the software will do. Click Scan Network 4. After clicking Yes or No this screen appears indicating the software is scanning for devices on the network.. 5. If you double click the STOP sign more detail is shown of the scanning that is taking place. The screen shows the scanning taking place for each IP address that will be on the network. The data response from each device on the network is displayed during the scanning process. This screen can be used, if necessary, to troubleshoot network problems. 6. After completion of the scanning, the network information screen shows all the IP addresses on the network. The information for each device is displayed along with their IP addresses. If more than one ATS Controller and/or Power Manager are at an IP address, you must manually add those devices to the IP address by using the Device List Editor screen. The auto scan only shows the first ATS Controller and/or Power Manager found at that IP address.
9 2-4 Setup VPi 32.15E Click Name. After you are Connected After the VPi32.15E software has connected to the ethernet LAN you need to add more information about the ATSs that are connected. Use the ATS Forms that you filled out in the beginning for this required additional information. On each ATS details screen: 1. Click on Name to add information for that ATS. If the selected ATS is a 7ATB, 7ACTB, or 7ADTB click box to add a check 2. Entering information for 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs. Enter your name for this ATS. Enter location for this ATS. Click Save when finished. Select type of ATS select OTTS for 4ATS, 7ATS, & 7ATB, select CTTS for 4ACTS, 7ACTS, & 7ACTB, select DTTS for 4ADTS, 7ADTS, & 7ADTB. 3. Entering information for Series 300 ATSs (Group 1 Controller). Enter your name for this ATS. Enter location for this ATS. Select system voltage for the ATS Refer to nameplate on the transfer switch. Click Save when finished. 4. Entering information for Group 6A/7A Control Panel ATSs (ASCO 940, 962, 436, 434, 447, 448). Enter your name for this ATS. Enter location for this ATS. Select ampere rating of the ATS Refer to nameplate on the transfer switch. Click Save when finished. Select system voltage for the ATS Refer to nameplate on the transfer switch. 5. Entering information for Power Managers connected to ATSs. Note: For Power Managers with 4000, 7000 Series, and Seies 300 ATSs, the Nominal Current, Nominal Voltage, and CT Ratio is not shown (it is only shown for Group 6A/7A Control Panel ATSs).
10 VPi 32.15E Setup 2-5 Set the Date and Time It is important (esp. for event logging) that the PC with VPi 32.15E software has its internal clock set correctly. The internal clocks of the ATSs connected 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs can be easily be updated to agree with the PC s clock. This update procedure should be performed only if the connected 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs are local or within the same time zone as the PC. Note: Windows NT requires Administration rights to change the date and time. 1. Check the current date and time set in the PC by following the instructions in Windows NT. Correct the date & time, if necessary. 2. On ATS Detail screen click Update Time. Internal clock in the selected 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs Group 5 Controllers will be updated to agree with the date and time set in the connected PC. 3. Click ATS Summary (lower right corner) to return to the ATS Summary screen. Now click on the next ATS to display the ATS Detail screen for that ATS. Click Update Time. Repeat this procedure until all ATSs are updated. Click Update Time the current User name. NOTE: Only 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs (with Group 5 Controllers) have this feature.
11 2-6 Setup VPi 32.15E Set the ATS Test Schedules The ATSs and engine-generators should be tested periodically (at least once a month). The POWERQUEST software includes a means to set seven ATSs different automatic test schedules for each 4000 & 7000 Series ATS, each with or without load transfer. Be sure that the PC s clock has already been set. 1. On the ATS Detail Screen click Test Schedules (bottom) to display the Test Schedules screen. Click Test Schedules NOTE: Only 7000 Series ATSs (with Group 5 Controllers) have this feature. Click arrow to view next test schedule. Click Edit Schedule to make changes. See next page.
12 VPi 32.15E Setup 2-7 Set the ATS Test Schedules continued The ATS Test Schedules screen allows you to assign engine-generator exercise periods with or without load transfer to the generator. Setting Schedule Enabled to ON enables the test schedule to take effect on its date and time setting. The generator will be started on that schedule only. When the Schedule Load Transfer Enable setting is ON, the test includes load transfer from the normal source to the emergency source and back again. Fill in these four fields. Select ON or OFF. 1. The ATS Test Schedules screen shows Schedule Number 1. This is the first of up to seven different test schedules for this ATS. Fill in the four fields: enter the Schedule Start Time (military time), the Schedule Run Time (length of generator exercise period), Schedule Run Week (1 st -5 th Week or All Weeks or Alternate Weeks), and the Schedule Day of Week to test. Then turn on the schedule by clicking Schedule Enable ON (OFF disables it). If you want the ATS to transfer its load to the generator click Schedule Load Transfer Enabled ON (OFF exercises enginegenerator only). Press Enter. 2. After you make all the settings for Schedule Number 1, click Save Settings to save the settings. Verify that your settings are correct. Make any changes in the fields and click Save Settings again, if necessary. 3. To set another test schedule for this ATS click right arrow on Details Screen. Or if you are finished with this ATS click Close This Window to return to the ATS Detail screen. Repeat this process until all ATSs have test schedules (if desired).
13 VPi 32.15E Operation 3-1 ATS Detail Screen for 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs The ATS Detail Screen for 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs shows the switch location, ratings, timer settings, actual timer values, pickup & dropout settings, accessories, event logging, and other status indications. To change a setting, click the Pick-up & Drop-out Settings % Nom item and/or Time Delay Setting item, then press Enter key. After making changes to the setting, click Save or Cancel. Shows position of ATS. Transfer or retransfer the load. Actual voltage & frequency readings from ATS controller. Pickup & dropout settings in ATS controller Click to scroll to next event. Click to display Emergency source settings. Time delay settings in ATS controller. Click to display the standard time delays. Click to display the pre-transfer and post-transfer time delays. Click here for automated Test Schedules. Click to display the non-standard time delays.

Set the Power Managers / Data Monitors to 9600 baud* if there are one or more Series 300 ATSs in the network. If only 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs are used set the Power Managers / Data Monitors to baud*. KW. KVAR, KVA current for each phase Voltage: phase to phase, phase to neutral 8 digital inputs user descriptions (You must be logged on as a User). 18 Operation 3-6 VPi 32.15E Power Manager Screen for Engine-Generator If used, the Engine-Generator Screen shows the output of a selected generator and alarms. In addition, digital inputs and outputs can be added to the screen which can be assigned by the user for additional monitoring and control over some connected equipment. Set the Power Managers / Data Monitors to 9600 baud if there are Series 300 ATSs and/or Group 6A/7A Control Panel ATSs (940,962,434,436,447,448) in the network. If only 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs are used set the Power Managers / Data Monitors to baud*. 19 VPi 32.15E Operation 3-7 Change User Password Any user defined by the master controller can change their assigned password. Be sure that you are logged in as a User. If not see page To make changes in the password be sure you are in the Local Configuration Interface Screen. 2. Click the Login icon on the toolbar to display the Password Security Check dialog box. 3. Type the current User name (individual who is logged on), press the Tab key, type the current Password, then click Change. 4. The dialog box instructs you to type your new Password twice. 5. Then click Save, or click Cancel to discard the change.
20 Operation 3-8 VPi 32.15E Alarm Logging Information When an event causes an alarm, such as a transfer, the ALRM indicator turns yellow (bottom left). To find out what caused the alarm, click the Alarms button on the tool bar (top right). Click Alarms for alarm log. ALRM indicator turns yellow when an event trips an alarm. Click Acknowledge button to send the alarms to the HISTORICAL screen. From this screen the information can be saved (Save button) or printed (Print button). The HISTORICAL screen contains all past alarms. To clear the alarm indicator, go to alarm screen and either acknowledge the alarm or clear the data base.
21 VPi 32.15E Event Log 4-1 Event Log and Printing The Group 5 controller in each 4000 & 7000 Series Automatic Transfer Switch product has event logging capability. The event log in each 4000 & 7000 Series ATS shows the last 99 logged events. Each event display shows the event number (1 is the most recent, 99 is the oldest), the time and date of the event, the event type, and the event reason (if applicable). Event Types: Six types of events are logged. They are: Engine start Transfer from Normal to Emergency Engine stop Transfer from Emergency to Normal Change in Emergency source from unacceptable to acceptable Change in Emergency source from acceptable to unacceptable Event Reasons: Seven reasons for events are logged. They are: Transfer Test (Feature 5) Manual transfer Test (Feature 17) Load shed Normal source failure Serial communications Engine exerciser The VPi 32.15E software can access the event logs of individual 4000 & 7000 Series ATSs and download the information for viewing and printing. The ATS must be selected first before this downloading can occur. You must know the address number set in the ATS s controller. Perform these steps: Tip Refer to the ATS form that you filled in at the back of this manual. 1. To download events, make sure you are in the Local Configuration Interface Screen. 2. Click the Download Event Log icon on the right in the Quick Activity Control Buttons area. 3. Click Change CP in the Control Panel Setting dialog box. 4. In the Accessed ATS list click on the desired ATS (by its address). Accept. Click 5. Next click Download Current Log and then click Set in the Event Log Request Feature area.
22 4-2 Event Log VPi 32.15E 6. As the events are downloaded from the selected ATS they are displayed event by event (1-99). 7. When the last of the 99 past events has been down loaded, all events are displayed in list form in the Actual Event Log Database for ATS [selected ATS number]. You can scroll through the events (1-99) to see them all. 8. To print the event log click the Print icon. The Print dialog box allows you to define the printer configuration and properties to enhance the print out Be sure that your printer is turned on, then click OK. 9. To save the event log to file click the Save icon. The Save As dialog box allows you to type a File name, select a directory path, and select a file type. Then click Save. 10. When finished, click the Return icon to return to the Connection Interface Screen to select another ATS.
23 VPi 32.15E ing Alarms 5-1 How to Set up Alarms Click Setting. VPi 32.15E software offers a feature for sending on alarm events to the office or to home froma particular site. 1. To set up addressing be sure you are in the Local Configuration Interface Screen. 2. On top menu bar click Setting then select Address.. 3. On Address List Editor screen, under Mode Option click Add Address then click Set button. 4. Enter the SMTP IP Address ( xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx format ). The company s administrator should indicate what you should use. Note: You may need to double check if the SMTP outgoing mail server is visible to the PowerQuest software. To do this go to the DOS prompt and ping the SMTP server as follows: C:\ping < SMTP outgoing mail server IP address > If you get a reply then it is OK to use it. 5. Enter the Address ( xxx@xxx.xxx format ) that you want sent a message that an alarm has been logged. Note: You may also need to confirm the addresses you ll be putting in through Microsoft Outlook. 6. Click Save button, then click Return button. 7. To add more addresses repeat steps 3 through To edit an address, under VPI List select the address you want to change, click Edit Address Info, then click Set button. Repeat steps 5 and To delete an address, under VPI List select the address you want to delete, click Delete Address, click Set button, click Delete button, then click Return button.
24 6-1 Communication Error VPi 32.15E Communication Error ERR light Communication lights. Click here to find out cause of error. 1. When communication with a device is lost, an error light indicator comes on (lower left ). 2. Double click on ERR to display the the cause of the error. 3. Click Close button to acknowledge the error. The error light will go off. If the communication problem is not fixed the light will come on again. Click Close button to acknowledge the error.
25 VPi 32.15E Device List Editor 7-1 Device List Editor Devices can be manually inserted into the network by using a known IP address or by adding additional IP addresses. Click Device List Editor. 1. On the top tool bar click the Device List Editor button to display the Device List Editor screen. 2. Click Add device button (lower left) to manually enter devices to the network. Click Add device. 3. Under IP Address, enter the same IP address ( xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx format ) that the Connectivity Module ( ) will use. 4. Under Device List select the appropriate ATS product that is connected to the Connectivity Module. Series 7000 for 7000 & 4000 Series ATSs (Group 5 CP) Series 300 for Series 300 ATSs (Group 1 Controller) Series 900 for Group 6A/7A ATSs (940,962,436,436,447,448) None for engine generator or other non-ats device. 5. Also under Device List select a monitor device (if connected). Power Manager for Power Manager or Data Monitor IO Module for Input/Output Module None if no monitor device is connected. 6. Under Address select the address of the device. 7. Click Save record button after selections are made.
26 7-2 Device List Editor VPi 32.15E 8. The record will look something like this. 9. After additional entries are entered the record will look something like this. Click Close button to reconfigure the corrections made to the General Device List Tree. 10. To delete a record select the address and click Delete device button, then click Yes.
