While we fund many rganizatins each year, such as Canadian Mental Health Assciatin, and Chris Rse Centre fr Autism, we are als able t fund newer initiatives such as Interiir Cmmunity Services Yuth Outreach Wrker and The Kamlps Hmelessness Actin Plan. United Way helps yung children and their families as part f ur Success by 6 initiative. This initiative builds the capacity f parents and cmmunities t prvide the fundatin that children age 0-6 need and includes emtinal, scial, cgnitive and physical skills. We all want t help mve peple frm pverty t pssibility Hmelessness affects all f us. Ending hmelessness will imprve ur cmmunity, imprve lives and save mney. The Kamlps Hmelessness Actin Plan is an ambitius plan t eliminate hmelessness in ur cmmunity in five years. The frmatin and executin f this plan has been pssible with guidance and wrk frm all sectrs f ur cmmunity. United Way has played a key leadership rle in cnvening tables and bringing peple tgether t develp this plan and put it int actin. HOW YOU HELP? Emplyee Campaign Crdinatr (ECC) is a vlunteer in the wrkplace wh is respnsible fr managing and mnitring the Wrkplace Campaign. As ECC in yur wrkplace, yu rally emplyees arund a cmmn cause f caring and partner with United Way t change lives and build better futures. Yur rle as an ECC is vital t the success f the campaign in yur rganizatin and, ultimately, t the well-being f yur cmmunity. As an ECC, yur rle is t: Lead and direct the United Way Emplyee Campaign within yur rganizatin, mtivate yur campaign cmmittee and inspire peple t give! Help emplyees understand what United Way des and hw cntributins t United Way directly affect their cmmunity. Give all emplyees an pprtunity t invest in what matters fr their cmmunity thrugh United Way. Invlve yur CEO/Senir Management CAMPAIGN PLANNING CHECKLIST The supprt f the senir management in yur rganizatin is critical t the success f yur campaign. Ask yur CEO t assist and supprt the campaign by: Getting invlved. Attending and/r speaking at campaign events/presentatins. Apprving the emplyee time necessary t plan and implement yur campaign. Supprting yur campaign gals, strategies and plans. Recruit yur campaign team The gal is t have all members invlved and cntributing, withut feeling verwrked r underused. Recruit well-respected and enthusiastic cwrkers wh are cmmitted t United Way t sit n yur cmmittee. Lk fr specific skills/expertise. Try t btain representatin frm all wrk grups. Recruit canvassers r get help with yur kick-ff r small special event. Have fun! Analyze yur previus campaign perfrmance Review the results f past campaigns with particular attentin t last year s campaign. Yur cmmittee can identify strengths and pprtunities. Identify trends (participatin levels, average gift, timing f campaign, number f canvassers). Utilize UW staff supprt and resurces if needed. Set yur gal A gal mtivates and prvides a mechanism fr measuring the success f yur campaign. Yur gal shuld be realistic, achievable and challenging. Plan yur apprach The main bjective f yur campaign is t generate resurces by increasing emplyee awareness f cmmunity needs, the services available and hw their dnatin is wrking in ur cmmunity. It is critical that every emplyee is given the pprtunity t learn this infrmatin in rder t make an infrmed decisin. Fcus n: Educating emplyees with presentatins, speakers, Seeing is Believing Tur, Day f Caring prject, vide. Preparing pledge packages (pledge frm, brchure, letter) Canvass emplyees (see page 7 fr a guide t Canvassing). This includes being an ambassadr f United Way and distributing and cllecting pledge frms. Prmte yur campaign Spread the wrd! Create enthusiasm and spirit while helping t maintain fcus. Use psters, small incentives, departmental challenges. Plan a visible kick-ff and wrap-up event. Mnitr yur prgress and reprt yur results Yu shuld track campaign activity and results. Cnsult with canvassers when there seems t be lw perfrmance. Update management n yur campaign s prgress and prblems. Keep enthusiasm high by regularly infrming emplyees f results. Recgnize and thank yur vlunteers and dnrs. The key t success f United Way s wrk is t thank the vlunteers wh give their time and talent t the campaign. Thank all dnrs and vlunteers wh have made yur campaign a success. Recgnize them in a staff meeting, in a newsletter, with a thank-yu nte. Invite them t a United Way event, like the tuch-dwn r the Spirit Awards. Evaluate yur campaign. It is imprtant fr the campaign team t analyze and evaluate all aspects f yur campaign. The analysis is an imprtant planning tl fr future campaigns. Review results and cmpare them t yur bjectives. Identify the aspects f yur campaign that wrked well and thse that did nt. Dcument yur findings- the recmmendatins yu make will be valuable in planning next year s campaign. 5
THE 20-MINUTE KICK-OFF MEETING Grup kick-ff presentatins are the mst effective and efficient way t reach all emplyees and t help them understand the wrk f United Way and hw their cntributins impact the cmmunity (and build excitement!). It takes as little as 20 minutes t cnvey key messages t yur grup, have a Leadership Presenter r Cmmunity Speaker, and shw a United Way vide. Be sure t ask emplyees t give when they receive their pledge frms. Please call yur United Way cntact t arrange fr a Cmmunity Partner t speak at yur meeting.
