Job Description Department: Communications Job Title: Digital Manager Reports to: Commercial Director Reports: Senior Digital Officer, Digital Assistant Background: Shakespeare's Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education. Together, the Globe Theatre, Globe Exhibition & Tour and Globe Education seek to further the experience and international understanding of Shakespeare in performance. The Communications Department is responsible for raising awareness of Shakespeare s Globe to increase audiences, visitor numbers and revenue. Purpose of the Job: The post resides within the Communications Department with a direct line report to the Commercial Director, and will manage two members of the Digital team. Working across all areas of the organisation, the Digital Manager will be responsible for developing the entirety of the Globe s digital presence and strategy, securing buy-in as necessary form key representatives across the organisation including in particular those from the Executive Team. The post-holder will work closely with the Marketing Managers and Commercial Director to best profile the work of Shakespeare's Globe and maximise commercial opportunities through digital activity. It should also be noted that Globe Education employs a digital team, and that there will also be a close working relationship with the Digital Producer (Education). The emphasis of the Digital Producer (Education) role is to optimise the organisation s online Education presence, outputs and engagement cognisant of the pivotal function Globe Education occupies within the Globe s overall mission. Principal Responsibilities 1. Digital Strategy Lead on digital strategy and oversee all digital communication. Source and appoint specialist agencies to help deliver the broader marketing strategy as appropriate. Keep abreast of latest developments in digital and advise on how emerging digital trends can be taken advantage of.
2. Website and microsites Lead on the maintenance and development of the Shakespeare s Globe website and microsites. Act as site editor to ensure that all areas carry accurate information, are up to date, and have consistent style and tone. Ensure all web content is Search Engine Optimised and meets accessibility criteria. Manage relationships with the Globe s web design and development agencies. Liaise with Shakespeare s Globe IT support partner on issues around hosting/technical infrastructure. Assist the Finance team with issues relating to online transactions. Produce a regular analytics report, suggesting areas for development and improvement. Respond to user feedback about the Shakespeare s Globe website and report on internal and external user feedback. Support the Theatre Department team in preparing Shakespeare s Globe for filming, internet broadcast and other video streaming opportunities. 3. Digital Campaign Planning and Implementation Work with relevant members of the marketing team to develop digital campaigns to support and promote Shakespeare s Globe theatre, educational and commercial offers. Advise on the creation of digital adverts, including pay per click, retargeting and social media advertising. Lead on the development of corporate or brand digital campaigns. 4. E-marketing Manage the bulk email communications system. Co-ordinate the creation and distribution of email newsletters, including creation of e-newsletters, solus campaigns and CRM messaging, directing the Digital Assistant where necessary. Edit copy for consistency of style and tone. Work with the marketing team to optimise the e-marketing schedule. Ensure that mailings are relevant and targeted through creative use and segmentation of the database. Develop the design and layout of Shakespeare s Globe s e-marketing with external agencies where appropriate.
5. Social Media Lead the Shakespeare s Globe social media strategy and policy, working with the Senior Digital Officer. Ensure all third party platforms are regularly updated and carrying rich content. Oversee the use of social networks by other departments. Keep abreast of latest developments in social media, including emerging platforms. Monitor and report on all social media activity, helping to develop KPIs for success in the use of these channels. Produce a regular analytics report relating to all social media activity. 6. Content Oversee the development of rich content for marketing and communications purposes (including video and audio material), specifically the commissioning and production process working with internal teams and external suppliers and partners as appropriate. Co-ordinate the publication of content across all digital channels, including email, web, social networks, mobile, onsite digital screens and third party channels as appropriate. 7. Communication To be the main point of call within Shakespeare s Globe for digital communications. To oversee and encourage the use of the intranet as a system for internal communications 8. General Management Responsibilities Effective management of staff, ensuring that direct reports are supported to achieve their objectives and receive regular feedback. Responsible for the use of a prepay card and its reconciliation on a regular basis. Digital team budget planning and overview. 9. Liaison with Digital Producer (Education) It is expected that the Digital Manager will have regular, scheduled meetings with the Digital Producer (Education) to collaborate on key objectives, key projects and Globe-wide online strategy. Both post-holders will work on the basis that there will be elements of each role that may need to be autonomous in content, message and objectives but they will always strive to ensure that the organisation s overall objectives are best served.
It is expected that all online projects with which the Globe engages will be considered by both post-holders with the view to optimising both educational and commercial values from such projects. Although there will be a close working relationship between the post-holders, both recognise that no authority or responsibility resides with or for the other and each manager has their own line management and reporting structure. Person Specification Essential Extensive experience and understanding of Content Management Systems, CRM databases, ESPs, e.g. dotmailer or MailChimp. Experience of planning and implementing digital marketing and communications strategies. Experience of developing an e-marketing strategy both in terms of data management, segmentation and the development of digital creative. Experience of gaining maximum value from social media tools and online campaigns. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and XML. Excellent copywriting/editing skills across a variety of digital platforms, e.g. websites, social media, email and advertising campaigns. Design experience and working knowledge of design software e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Awareness of and passion for emerging digital communication technologies. Ability to plan and prioritise duties and responsibilities whilst working to tight deadlines. Experience of leading teams and managing people Desirable Experience of online ticketing and ticketing systems integration. Experience of communicating with a range of stakeholders at all levels across a large organisation. Experience of project-managing major online projects and rolling out new websites from concept to launch. Knowledge of budgets
