Computer Graphics 2 (18 weeks every other day) 0.5 Credits Grades 10-12 Course Number 71054 Instructor: Mr. Russell Coleman Phone Number: 215-420-5654 Email: rcoleman@hatboro-horsham.org In Computer Graphics 2 students will continue to learn to use computer technology as a tool to create art and design. This course will build on the basic functions and tools in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, as well as, learning new tools, functions and techniques in both programs. The student will create unique and original designs. Using Photoshop and Illustrator students will learn various ways to edit and manipulate images, composite images, create text and also explore the techniques of vector drawing. Students will also learn how to create 2D Animation using the programs. A strong emphasis will be placed on the principles of graphic design. This course is for the student interested in digital media and possibly a career in computer graphics, web design, game design, computer generated imagery, film, graphic design, animation and illustration. Course Syllabus: *The curriculum could change in the form of updates, added assignments or removal of assignments based on the pace of the class during the semester. Adobe Illustrator: Workspace, Navigation, Layers, Selections, Shape and Pen Tool Functions learned in Computer Graphics 1 Illustrator Review: Pen Tool Review Drawing, Expressive Typography Design Adobe Illustrator: Low Poly Drawing Pen Tool Drawing using the contemporary "low poly" style Principles of Design Adobe Photoshop Review: Workspace, Navigation, Layers and basic functions learned in Computer Graphics 1 Review design using Masking, Typography, Image Adjustments, Filters, Selection Tools and Layers Adobe Photoshop: Worth1000 website Choice Design Explore ways Photoshop has changed or at least influenced the history of Photography Create a design based on Photoshop skills that you know and a choice design from Worth1000 website

2D Animation Unit: Photoshop and Illustrator Explore various lessons in how to use Photoshop techniques and the animate them using the Photoshop Animation Panel. Produce several animated GIF files. Explore and create various lessons using Illustrator layers and blend functions to create SWF animations. Produce several animations. Adobe Photoshop: Digital Painting Learn how to use Photoshop's painting tools to create a realistically rendered painting. Combine traditional painting techniques and Photoshop tools and techniques to create a painting. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop: Adhemas Batista Style Design Study a contemporary designers style and work Learn new drawing functions and features in Illustrator Work between both programs to create combination of Illustrator drawings and Photoshop edits and effects Advertising Unit: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Study key advertising principles and techniques Create a packaged design (cereal box) using both the advertising principles and both Photoshop and Illustrator. Classroom Procedures: Students are expected to abide by all school rules while in the classroom. The Behavior Code of Conduct is listed on pages 29-36 in the Hatboro-Horsham High School Student/Parent handbook. (Handbook is located on the High School website under Site Short Cuts on the left hand side.) It is critical that you are on time for class. Almost all course instruction is given during the first part of class. Chronic lateness may result in disciplinary action. Cell phones are permitted in class. As long as they are not used as an interruption to instruction or class work. Students may use their phones to listen to music while they work. Students are permitted to use headphones to listen to music in class only during independent work time. Food and Drink are not permitted on the tables near the computers. Please put all food away and keep water bottles, coffee mugs etc at your feet. Internet use is for class assignments ONLY. Any inappropriate use could result in termination of internet use, possible elimination of access to the network and discipline from Principal. I will view your computers while you work. I also have access to your individual network. Please make sure you are focused and on task during class. Students are held to the Hatboro-Horsham School District acceptable use policy. The AUP is located on the District Home page on the right under NEWS. Technology Courtesy Guidelines listed and Unacceptable used of mobile devices are listed on page 9 of the Student/Parent Hand Book. Course Supplies: You are NOT required to purchase any software or hardware for this course.

Grading: H.A.T.S School Grading Polices: Are found on page 17 of the student teacher/handbook Lessons are for learning specific computer techniques and tools and will be worth between 5-50 points. Lessons will be turned in via the school network. Projects will focus on Creativity, Craftsmanship, Criteria, Extent of Involvement and techniques learned in previous lessons. Projects will be worth 50-100 points. projects will be turned in via the school network. Homework: Due to the nature of the course there is no homework. All assignments will be completed in class using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Late Work/Attendance Late work will be recorded as a 0 in Power School and will be marked with a "L" for lateness. Late work will receive a 10% penalty per school day late. Late work will be graded when received. If you are absent on the day a lesson or project is due you will receive an ABS code in Powerschool (0) until the missing assignment is turned in. If you are absent during class work time on a project or lesson you will receive make up time. There will be no lateness penalty if work is turned in after your absence and within the makeup time. Generally speaking missing work will be due the following class. You are ALWAYS responsible for missed work. Further Attendance information can be found on page 15 of the student parent/handbook I am available for extra help during H.A.T.S Period. This will provide you with ample time to make up missed classed periods and/or extra time to work on lessons or projects. A student can come and work during 3A, 3B and 3C. Final Grade Organization: Q1 = 40% + Q2 = 40% + Final Project = 20% = Semester Grade
