1 Audio Video Production Syllabus Course Description This is a pre-employment, cooperative learning laboratory course designed to provide job specific training for entry-level employment in the audio / video production and entertainment industry. Instruction will place students in a cooperative learning environment that will simulate a real world Audio / Video Production Company. Students will learn the theoretical and real world application of industry tools and resources as well as develop the conceptual and organizational disciplines for work in the entertainment industry. Students will explore and occupy many Job Positions such as Grip, AV Technician, Camera Operator, AV Editor, Audio Engineer, Lighting Designer and Production Director. Safety and career exploration are emphasized. Students will learn a variety of industry related Hard Job Skills such as camera operation, audio application, digital editing, media graphics creation, animation, lighting, script writing, directing, copyright application and production planning. Soft Job Skills include communication, cooperation, planning, estimating, resource management and interpersonal relationships. Students will have the opportunity to create, produce and distribute Audio and Video content via KISDTV and multiple distribution outlets. 2 Student Supply List Headphones - Students should own their quality headphones. 8 Gig Class 10 HDSC Flash Memory Card - Students must supply their own memory cards. Blank DVD s (as needed)- Students will supply their own DVD-R media and covers. Quantity will vary. Blank CD s (as needed)- Students will supply their own CD-R media and covers. Quantity will vary. Hard Drives or Thumb Drives (as needed)- These are not required, however if students wish to take home their work they must supply their own means to do so. Device use is subject to instructor approval. Student Expectations The AV Production Class is based on a real job atmosphere. Professionalism, mutual respect and responsibility are the expectations of all students and instructors. The AV Production Class Rules are simple and all encompassing. These rules help provide a basis for life long success in class and on the job. 1. Students MUST demonstrate professionalism. Students shall be responsible, organized, prepared, conscientious and on time. 2. Students MUST show respect for each other. When mutual respect is shown between peers; teamwork, community and collaboration can thrive. Bullying / Harassment is not tolerated and will result in an immediate referral. 3. Students MUST show respect for their instructors. The instructors, through experience and knowledge, help the students achieve their goals. 4. Students MUST show respect for the equipment. Students shall care for the tools that provide them learning opportunities. Students may be held financially responsible for loss or damage. STUDENTS WILL PROPERLY PUT AWAY ALL EQUIPMENT USED AT THE END OF EACH CLASS OR RECORDING SESSION. STUDENTS WILL LOG OFF OF COMPUTERS USED AT THE END OF EACH CLASS OR RECORDING SESSION. 5. Students MUST obey all applicable laws and regulations. The entertainment industry is regulated by many entities such as OSHA, NEC and NFPA to name a few. These industry rules and regulations will be reviewed and discussed by the students as they become applicable to a project. Students will be expected to follow ALL industry rules as outlined by the instructor for that job or project. 6. USE OF ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE AT INSTRUCTOR DISCRETION. Students MUST comply with all request or instructions made by the instructor regarding personal and district owned electronic devices at all times.

3 Disciplinary Actions Violation of class or industry rules, laws and guidelines will be handled in the following manner. 1 st offense- Verbal warning. 2 nd offense- Phone call or to parent accompanied by a parent teacher conference. 3 rd offense- Referral to CATE and Campus Administrator. Failure to obey entertainment industry guidelines or applicable safety laws may result in injury or death. Failure to obey copyrights, patents and/or trademarks may result in legal and/or financial recourse. Failure to obey Class Rules will result in a disciplinary action and/or removal from the class. Attendance The AV Production Class is based on a real job atmosphere. Professionalism, mutual respect and responsibility are the expectations of all students and instructors. Student attendance expectations are based on real world requirements. AV Production 1 is project based and collaborative. Student success requires student attendance. Students are expected to be present, on time and prepared to begin work. Students that are absent / tardy or know they will be absent / tardy should notify the instructors and their collaborative partners asap. Students will be counted TARDY if they arrive after the last bus has arrived. Students will be counted ABSENT if they arrive 15 minutes after the last bus has arrived. See the CATE Student Handbook Attendance Policy for allowable number of absences and tardies as well as their classifications. Students with more than the allowable number of tardies or absences as defined by the CATE Student Handbook Attendance Policy will be referred. Any class work missed due to an absence must be made up in class the following week or by appointment before and after school. When working in a group, students should communicate their make up work intentions with their collaborative partners and instructor. Students absent on individual Project Due Dates, Test Dates or Presentation Dates will be required to submit their work immediately upon their return to class. Students absent on collaborative Project Due Dates, Test Dates or Presentation Dates should communicate their intentions with their collaborative partners and instructor. Students are expected to dress appropriately. KISD Student Dress Codes will be enforced. Non-AV Production student participation in AV Production student projects will be at the discretion of the instructor.

4 KISD-TV Crew AV Production students are encouraged to participate as part of the KISD-TV Student Crew. This crew provides vital hands on experience producing shows for KISD-TV, KISD Website, KISD Fine Arts, Time Warner Cable and many more. THIS IS ON THE JOB EXPERIENCE, that can be applied to a résumé and job reel. The crew is evaluated on their participation and professionalism. These events happen after school hours much like a band or choir concert. Students are hired as par-time KISD employees and are paid minimum wage for their participation. Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing. Students will be given a KISD-TV Crew shirt (uniform) and badge (credentials). This is required dress for ALL KISD-TV CREW EVENTS. Students will receive additional info, employee paperwork and additional employee policies / procedures upon application. Assessment Projects, Presentations and Demonstrations (Summative) 60% Class Participation / Daily Work Crew Participation / Professionalism Tests / Quizzes (Formative) 40% Total 100% I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK! The AV Production Industry is fast paced and demanding. It often requires uncompromising deadlines and due dates. AV Production students will be held to strict due dates as reflected by our industry. Students are given ample time and resources to complete assignments in class provided they work steadily, collaboratively and they follow stated guidelines and procedures. Time Management and Project Estimation are critical components to job training in the AV Production Industry. Any extenuating circumstances will be handled on a per case basis. Example, extreme illness, family issues or legal circumstances. Extra credit assignments may be earned at instructor discretion. 5 AV Production Computer Lab Policies and Procedure Computer Lab Policies NO FOOD, DRINKS or MAKE-UP allowed in the lab. Do not disconnect, switch, add, or remove peripherals from the computer (mouse, keyboard, headphones, etc.) without instructor permission and instruction. Students are not permitted to download or upload games, software, pics, music or any other item, file or application from the internet, except for pictures or files used in class projects. Students are not permitted to download or upload games, software, pics, music or any other item item, file or application from flash drives, portable hard drives, phones, Ipads, Ipods, online/offline servers or any other electronic device except for pictures or files used in class projects. Students wishing to utilize the above devices must have the permission of the instructor. Students are not permitted to download or upload games, software, pics, music or any other item item, file or application from CDs, DVDs or Video / Audio Tape except files used in class projects. All audio, video and graphic resource used in projects and presentations MUST be school appropriate and may not contain profanity, vulgarity, lewdness, risky behavior, inappropriate attire, or offensive subject matter. Students MUST adhere to ALL copyright and fair use guidelines. Students observed misusing or abusing the lab in anyway, including any of the above offenses, abusing the Internet, viewing or listening to inappropriate materials may be locked out of their computer and refereed for disciplinary action. Computer Lab Procedures Log in and use only your computer only. Do not share your Login information with anyone. Report any hardware or software problems to the instructor immediately. Keep the area around your computer clean and organized. Workstations are to be left in an orderly fashion each day. Put away or return all aux. equipment to its appropriate location at the end of class everyday. (headphones, mics, audio keyboards) Log out of your computer everyday. Utilize the hand sanitizer often. Disinfect keyboards, headphones and shared equipment often.
