1 Introduction The purpose of this engineering design standard is to provide designers and installers with the necessary technical and practical information required to enable the use of the new design of 11kV triplex cable in UK Power Networks. 2 Scope This document only covers the five main types of triplex 11kV cable supplied by either Nexans or Prysmian Cables: 95mm 2 aluminium single core XLPE cable laid up in triplex format; 185mm 2 aluminium single core XLPE cable laid up in triplex format; 185mm 2 copper single core XLPE cable laid up in triplex format; 300mm 2 aluminium single core XLPE cable laid up in triplex format; 300mm 2 copper single core XLPE cable laid up in triplex format. 3 Details 3.1 Standard Drum Lengths, Sizes and Weights The following table details the standard drum lengths, drum sizes and drum weights that apply to the standard drum lengths available from UK Power Networks Logistics Department. Longer drum lengths can be made available but these would be subject to a special order on the manufacturer with a longer lead time. 3.2 Current Table for Triplex Cables This table provides a guide to the current ratings for triplex cables. All the ratings quoted are s for 1 single triplex cable only and are in accordance with Engineering Recommendation P17. The MVA ratings are for a three-phase supply. s for multiple cable circuits should be calculated individually. Appendix A of this document provides ratings for the more commonly used types of installation: Area mm² 95 Al 185 Al 185 Cu 300 Al 300 Cu Current per Cable Based on a 600mm depth of cover Laid direct in ground Installed in ducts Installed in Free air (Shaded from Solar Radiation) Amps MVA Amps MVA Amps MVA 321 464 590 609 766 6.11 8.83 11.23 11.59 14.58 237 340 432 444 557 4.51 6.47 8.22 8.45 10.60 313 467 594 629 791 5.96 8.89 11.30 11.97 15.05 Area mm² 95 Al 185 Al 185 Cu 300 Al 300 Cu Current per Cable Based on a 600mm depth of cover Laid direct in ground Installed in ducts Installed in Free air (Shaded from Solar Radiation) Amps MVA Amps MVA Amps MVA 360 524 665 689 867 6.85 9.97 12.65 13.11 16.50 246 354 449 463 581 4.68 6.74 8.54 8.81 11.06 325 485 617 653 822 6.18 9.23 11.74 12.43 15.64 4 of 14 UK Power Networks 2012 All rights reserved
