Course Overview MITRA Cross-Cultural Mediation: Identities, Mobilities, Conflicts is an interdisciplinary bilingual Master s Degree in human and social sciences designed to meet the substantial need for cross-cultural mediation which contemporary international and transnational mobility has given rise to. The program relies on the scientific expertise of a consortium of eight European and non-european universities : Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Université Lille 3 (France), University College Cork (Ireland), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico), University of Wroclaw (Poland), Université Babeş-Bolyai (Romania), Université Cheikh Anta Diop (Senegal). MITRA offers professional training to future experts in the fields of crisis and conflict management, diversity management and skilful cultural and political strategy development within territories undergoing major changes.
Course structure MITRA follows a twofold approach: study locations alternate between territories within Europe and outside Europe while the program alternates academic studying with field work. Following a core curriculum in Lille university, focusing on the founding concepts and methods of the program, three specialisation courses combining theoretical training through research with work experience will shape the students mobility within the consortium: Specialisation course 1 Crises, conflicts, civil society based on approaches to philosophical politics and sociology (Lille, Cluj, Dakar or Rio de Janeiro). Specialisation course 2 The migrant subject: accounts and social practices resorts to anthropology, art, literature, languages and social psychology (Lille, Leuven, Rio de Janeiro or Mexico). Specialisation course 3 Territory and mobility: a comparative approach concentrates more specifically on anthropology, History and geography (Lille, Wroclaw, Cork or Dakar). Course objectives Having acquired the necessary tools and expertise in the field of cross-cultural argumentation and negotiation, the MITRA expert, now highly aware of ethical issues, is trained to both anticipate the political, social and behavioral consequences of migration and take action within joint committee relations With a high emphasis on research, this Master s Degree leads to a Ph.D Degree and provides the graduates with transferable skills opening up career prospects in various sectors such as: national and international institutions, companies human resource departments and territorial governance organisations. Target Audience This Master s Degree is aimed at students holding a Bachelor s Degree (180 ECTS) in Arts, Literature, Languages, Human and Social Sciences or Law. Students with relevant work experience holding a Bachelor s Degree in a different subject can be granted special permission to apply. MITRA is a four-semester curriculum program in French and English (the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required).
