2 Global Initiatives: Background and establishment of OGI Keio International Center established in 1964 Increased university competition identified need to separate strategic planning and daily management Establishment of Organization for Global Initiatives (OGI) in January 2005, with OGI Office as control tower May 2005, Keio was awarded 5-year grant (Japanese government Strategic Fund for Establishing International Headquarters in Universities ) Launched in FY2005 by MEXT (budget: 500 million/year) 15 national universities, 1 public university, 3 private universities, 1 inter-university research institute corporation.
