3 Founded over five hundred years ago, the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) is an institution that commands respect throughout the world. Economics Studies in the USC began in 1967 within the Faculty of Political Sciences. For its first ten years, the actual Faculty of Economics moved location from the old Faculty of Law to the barracks of Burgo das Nacións, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Building of Fonseca. In 1974, it started offering Business Studies. The building currently hosting the faculty opened in In 1993, the faculty started granting Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. Since the 2009/2010 academic year, apart from the degree of Economics and the degree of Business Administration and Management, it has been offering several postgraduate masters.

4 Economics It provides students with scientific knowledge so they may analyse and explain the behaviour of economy and economic agents. It also provides students with the skills and abilities necessary to perform tasks to manage, assess and advise on economic matters. Such tasks can be developed in the private or public sectors, as well as any other institution.

6 Business Administration and Management It allows students to be able to work as managers and consultants in a productive organization, and its functional areas: production, human resources, finance, marketing, investment, accounting or administration. The study of such functional areas considers the business s objectives in the context of a global economy. Students learn to identify and anticipate opportunities, allocate resources, organise information, select and motivate staff, make decisions, achieve target objectives and evaluate results.

9 Master in Economic Development and Innovation: The title of Master s Degree in Economic Development and Innovation offers students specialised multidisciplinary and advanced training in regional and local economic development, R&D management and innovation. Students can choose between two specializations: Local and Regional Economic Development Research and Innovation Management The Master Degree presents two different orientations: Academic-professional Orientation: to train professionals to work for Specialized Consultancy, Enterprises R&D Departments, Research Institutions or Public and Political Institutions. Research Orientation, which allows students the access to doctoral studies in order to get a PhD in Economics. Master in Economics: Industrial Organization and Financial Markets Vocational objectives: The program offers master s level training in general economics and quantitative methods applied to economics, together with specialised courses in two areas closely related to economic activities and business of great use for professional development: the industrial organization and financial markets. The Master provides training for graduates interested in both Economics and Business, as well as graduates in other areas, as it complements their training and allows them to become familiar with the reality of the business and economic activity in which they will develop their career. The array of optional subjects allows students to choose between five main options: Industrial Organization Financial Markets Macro-economics and Finance Economic Regulations Quantitative Methods Applied to Industrial Organization and Finance Guided research objectives: The program offers students the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies and obtain the degree of Doctor of Economics. Master in Management and Planning of Tourism Professional Orientation: to prepare senior professionals for management and business planning, commercial activities and tourist institutions. Research Orientation: training experts to focus their professional career into research in the field of tourism. Master in Business Administration The Official Master in Management in the campus of Santiago (MBA) has three curriculum approaches: academic, professional and research. With a practical methodology including the analysis of case studies, solving exercises, role-playing, discussion of readings of interest and the development and presentation of essays, the Master gives students advanced knowledge in the Management of businesses and the ability to apply and develop management skills.

10 The research option is aimed at training researchers in the field of Management. Students must have completed the training period of the Master in Management, or, alternatively, obtained the relevant skills to access the research period of the doctoral program. The doctoral program establishes the compulsary completion of the subject Methodology of Research in Management and the guided research work related to this option within the period of study. Once the students prove they meet these requirements and are admitted to the program, they may start the period of research leading to the presentation of their doctoral thesis. Master in Regional Development and Economic Integration The program of regional development and economic integration is meant to combine a practical and research approach, with the following objectives: 1.- In both cases, it aims to provide advanced training in economics and quantitative methods, as well as the necessary skills for its effective transmission through oral and written tools. This is a training basis for the research career and work experience. 2.- The speciality of regional development, providing a set of knowledge and skills for professional institutions, agencies and companies dedicated to regional and local development. The itinerary includes applied materials, as well as practical work in such entities, which could act as a bridge between the training phase and the subsequent work of the Alumni. 3.- The speciality of economic integration pursue a similar goal, albeit in international or regional institutions (border or beyond borders, as is the case of Galicia). It is also intented for those interested in the fields of national development, integration and co-operation. The characteristics of the subjects, together with the mix of theory and practice share the same objectives mentioned in point 2.
