2 FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT EESAB a state institution École Européenne Supérieure d Art de Bretagne is a state institution accredited by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. sites Brest Lorient Quimper Rennes objectives Allowing you to experiment across interdisciplinary art and design practise. Dnsep = Diplôme National Supérieur d Expression Plastique. > full time over 2 years, following on from the DNAP or relative degree, and equivalent to Master of Arts Degree. options ART COMMUNICATION DESIGN teaching staff Artist practitioners, art theorists, designers, architects, graphic designers, etc. Each member of the teaching staff is actively engaged in contemporary practise and research across diverse media, offering a perspective on the professional world.
3 EESAB: KEY STRENGTHS The largest art school in France École Européenne Supérieure d Art de Bretagne is made up of four unique Art Schools, situated in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes, and with a total of 900 students - it is the largest Art School in France. State-recognised national diplomas with ECTS credits towards equivalent qualifications in other countries. High-level technical workshops, with equipment on each site freely available for the use of all students, supervised by specialist technicians (engraving, screen printing, bookbinding, woodwork, metalwork and modelling workshops, a photo studio and lab, fab lab, etc.). Specific teaching methods divided into three phases >> Year 1 = foundation course This common-core syllabus, taught in all higher art schools, covers both theoretical foundations and the practice of Visual arts, for all three options. >> Years 2-3 = main course phase Students have opportunities to experiment with techniques, tools and materials, and consolidate their knowledge through a combination of basic teaching and methods-centred approaches. This phase leads into personal research work. >> Years 4-5 = project phase In their final two years, students engage in personal research, helping them to establish their own, independent creative approach and output. International relations EESAB encourages all students to register with mobility programmes in Europe and internationally to broaden their experience and expand their openness to other cultures. >> Signatory of the ERASMUS charter for student and faculty mobility within Europe. >> Member of the ELIA network: European League of Institutes of the Arts, comprising over 350 art schools across Europe. Partner countries: Germany, Belgium, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, the United Kingdom, China, the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Vietnam. BREST LORIENT QUIMPER RENNES École européenne supérieure d art de bretagne Professional experience during the course: placements in workshops, agencies and companies; partnerships between the school and cultural organisations (FRAC contemporary art centres, arts centres, theatres, festivals, design exhibitions, etc.). Career preparation: In addition to work placements and meetings with professionals, Masters students receive specific administrative, legal and economic training for the professional world of artistic practice, as well as assistance with compiling an artist s portfolio. Research EESAB currently focuses on six fields of research in art, communication and design, in partnership with the members of Université Européenne de Bretagne (UEB) as well as a number of French and international schools (Royal College, Ecole Telecom Bretagne, etc.) and companies (Spectaculaires, etc.). Research is interspersed with a wide range of events (exhibitions, residencies, workshops, seminars, study days, publications, etc.) so that all students can follow the development of the various research projects. Follow-up for graduates: invitations to take part in exhibitions and various projects; BASE.FR website documenting and publicising EESAB graduates output.
4 COURSE OPTIONS art Option The art option focuses on artistic creation, for which the objectives and resources are chosen freely by the artist, depending on their personal aesthetic, social and political commitments. The Brest site trains artists and designers; the art option aims to pass on the conceptual tools and techniques required to work in arts and visual creation. In Lorient, artistic research and Visual arts practices are embodied in the concept of narratives : creating images (drawing, photography, computer design, video), storytelling and literary practice, graphic design and editorial design. In Quimper, the unique Art option provides teaching open to all forms of practice, featuring a strong collective dynamic ( platforms ) coupled with each student s personal artistic research. Art teaching in Rennes focuses on experimentation, critical thought and openness to all forms of expression. DNAP >> in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes DNSEP >> in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes Artist, Visual artist, sculptor, videographer, photographer, cultural mediator, exhibition curator, gallery owner, stage manager, etc. design Option The EESAB design option favours a pluralistic approach to the profession of designer. The school teaches a method that systematically encourages research, critical distance and creativity to stimulate the relationship of people with their environment, objects and their use, using a project-based approach. In Brest, the approach is centred on the object s practical relationship with world around it, including its social, spatial and cultural context. Rennes takes a fundamental, cross-disciplinary approach to design, focusing on three broad areas: urban design; landscapes and artefacts; and scenic and digital design. DNAP >> in Brest and Rennes DNSEP >> in Brest and Rennes Object design, furniture design, space planner, stage designer, interior architect, digital designer, prototype designer, modelmaker, teacher, etc. communication Option This option offers space for investigating the signs and signals of communication, and the relationship between words and images. It interrogates professional issues such as commissions and acceptance in today s social and cultural environment. It also emphasises personal artistic creation, allowing future graduates to envisage an independent artistic career in graphic design, typography, photography, illustration or audio-visual communication. In this option, Lorient prepares students for the DNAP Communication graphique (equivalent to BA Graphic Communication). Rennes provides training for the DNAP and the DNSEP Communication (which is equivalent to BA Visual Arts and MA Visual Expression & Communication), with two distinct Graphic Design options. This EPCC has been established by city district authorities in Brest, Lorient, Quimper and Rennes, along with the Region of Brittany and national government.
