Three Rivers Community College Wireless Network TRCC s Information Technology Division offers free wireless network connectivity for students. The network grants students high-speed access to the Internet in most places on campus Wi-Fi connection requires a laptop with a wireless networking card or a wi-fi enabled device (phone or tablet). Locate the ConnSCU Internet network in your wi-fi settings. 2. Open a web browser. The browser should automatically go to our authentication page. 3. Type in your username and password. 4. After login you can continue to use the wi-fi up to four hours if you do not move out of range of an access point in the building. Windows 8 Instructions 1. From the Windows Start screen first try clicking the Internet Explorer app. 2. If this works and you get to the certificate warning page, skip to step 9. 3. If it does not work (you get anything other than the certificate warning page), close Internet Explorer and return to the Start Screen. 4. Then click the Desktop app in the bottom left corner. 5. In the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (Systray), click the wi-fi icon. 6. This will open the Networks sidebar. If you are within range of an access bar on campus, you will see the ConnSCU Internet network. Click the link for the network. 7. The link will expand the ConnSCU Internet link. Check the Connect automatically box so that you do not have to repeat these steps every day you are on campus. Then click the Connect button. 8. For a few second up will see the side bar message indicating that it is connecting. If it takes more than 20 seconds either you are out of range of an access point or the network is experiencing a problem. When it is done it will show that ConnSCU Internet is Connected. 9. Open Internet Explorer or another browser. You will see the follow certificate warning. 10. Click the option that allow you to Continue to this website. 11. Login with your numerical Banner ID and password. 12. When this is complete, you web browser will be on its start page. Department of Educational Technology KB - 3
1 1 1 Windows 7 Instructions 1. Click the wi-fi icon in the System Tray (Systray). 2. Click the ConnSCU Internet link in the resulting menu. 2 3. Click to check the box to Connect automatically. Doing so will allow you to avoid steps 1 through 4 each time you are on campus. 3 4 4. Click the Connect button. 1 Briefly, an information box will appear showing that the computer is connecting. 5. Open a browser. 6. Login using your user name and password. a. In Internet Explorer you should go directly to a login page. b. In Chrome or Firefox you may first get a security warning. If the message reads as is shown, it is safe to choose the Proceed anyway button. Then you will see the login page in the browser. 7. Windows Vista Instructions 1. Choose the Connect To item from the Start menu. The Connect to a Network window appears. The wireless networks broadcasting within range of your laptop's wireless networking card are shown in the Wireless Network Connection area. 2. Choose the network labeled ConnSCU Internet from the list to highlight it. 3. Click the Connect button. Windows will attempt to connect to the network. 4. Open a browser. A login page will open. 5. Enter your user name and password. Use the eight digit number portion only if you are a Three Rivers student, staff or faculty member. 6. Click the Submit button. Windows XP Instructions To locate a wireless network with the Windows XP operating system, follow these steps: 1. Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks. 2. The Wireless Network Connection window will appear, displaying the wireless networks broadcasting within your range. If you don't see the TRCC network (ConnSCU Internet), click Refresh network list in the upper left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower right corner. 3. Click the ConnSCU Internet network to select it, then click the Connect button. Windows will attempt to connect to the network. 4. Launch your preferred web browser; you will be presented with a log-in portal. 5. In the box labeled User Name enter your mycommnet ID Eight (8) digit number portion only. 6. Enter your TRCC Network password 7. Click the Submit button. You are now connected and ready to use the Internet. Department of Educational Technology KB - 7
MAC Instructions 1. Click on the airport icon located in the top right hand corner of the finder bar. Turn on the airport if it is off. 2. Once the Wi-Fi bars appear, click the airport icon again and choose the ConnSCU Internet menu item. 3. When the Wi-Fi network ConnSCU Internet dialog box appears, enter your User Name and Password. Check the box to remember the network. The username is your Banner ID #. Department of Educational Technology KB - 8
4. The Verify Certificate dialog box should pop-up. Click continue. 5. Another dialog box will pop-up to allow you to enter your username and password again. Once you have do so, click Update Settings. 6. You should now be able to connect to the Internet via the ConnSCU network. If you still cannot get to a web page, restart your computer.
