Chapter 9 Stacks Mac OS X Stacks feature displays the cotets of ay folder i the Dock as a fa (Figure 1), grid (Figure 2), or list (Figure 3). Click the folder ico to display the stack. The click the item i the stack to ope it. This makes it easy to orgaize Dock items ad access the applicatios, folders, ad files you use most. By default, Mac OS X 10.6 is precofigured with three stacks folders (Figure 3): u u u Applicatios is the computer s Applicatios folder default locatio for istalled applicatios. Documets is your Documets folder the default locatio for saved documets. Dowloads is your Dowloads folder the default locatio for files you dowload from the Iteret. Click the ame of the paret folder to view the cotets of that folder agai. 2. To ope a folder i the grid, click it. The grid displays the cotets of the folder you clicked. Chapter 9 Exposé If you re like most Mac OS X users, you probably have multiple applicatios ad widows ope at the same time while you work. The result ca be a cluttered scree, with may layers of widows hidig other widows ad the desktop. Simply press oe of Exposé s shortcut keys (Table 1) to see what you eed to see. Exposé Mac OS X 10.6 adds Exposé itegratio with the Dock. Now you ca view all ope widows i a specific applicatio by simply clickig that applicatio s ico i the Dock (Figure 13). Ad whe widows are displayed i Exposé, they ow appear i a eat grid, makig them eve easier to see ad access. 4 Tips If you re usig a laptop Macitosh, such as a MacBook or MacBook Pro, you may eed to hold dow the key while pressig the appropriate key i Table 1 to activate Exposé. This is the same as pressig - with default Exposé settigs. 5. To set shortcut keys ad mouse buttos for Exposé fuctios, choose optios from the pop-up meus i the Exposé area (Figures 15 ad 16). 6. Spaces Desktop Maagemet Mac OS X s Spaces feature eables you to orgaize groups of widows ito multiple spaces (Figure 22). The, whe you work i a space, oly the widows that are part of that space appear oscree (Figure 23). Figure 22 I this example, I ve created four differet spaces. Whe I wat to retur to work without distractios from those other applicatios, I ca quickly switch back to my work space. Settig up Spaces is pretty straightforward. After eablig the feature ad specifyig the umber ad layout of spaces that you wat, simply switch to a space ad start fillig it with widows. You ca also assig applicatios to specific spaces, esurig that they ope i the space you pla to use them i.
