Horton Mr. Guillermo Munoz, Principal Dates: January, 2014 February, 2014 A. Student Club Activities/Special Events Academy Articulations Academy students Yadeilys Marquez and Alexandra Bermudez facilitated an interest session where they spoke to students about the benefits of joining the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism for the upcoming school year. The students did a great job of discussing the Program Strands, Field Trips offered and who to see to sign up. During the session several students signed the Interest sheets. The information will be provided to counselors to ensure the students are placed based upon the information submitted for the upcoming year. B. Curriculum Enhancement Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Digital Class Room. Diohom Orama, an eleventh grader and Khadijah Smith a senior are both preparing for the first NFTE South Florida Online Business Competition Challenge which will be held on March 14 th. Digital Learning Day Academy students also learned how to create intuitive Valentine s Day Greeting cards. Magnet Articulation, 02/18/2013; In-house Interest Session Fifteen (15) juniors have finalized business cards and resumes for their 2014 internship. Sixteen have uploaded their resumes to: o GetMy Interns.org. Industry Certification To date 35 students have attained Adobe Dreamweaver Industry Certification. FCAT infusion in academy classes. Essential and Higher Oder Thinking Strategy questions (HOTS) infused in classes.

C. Curriculum Enhancement (continued) Annual Ground Hog Job Shadow Day, February 5, 2014 juniors in the academy shadowed industry professionals at the Hotel Intercontinental for one day. Junior Class - AOHT Ms. Leonie Timothies, Hotel Intercontinental was presented a certificate of appreciation for accommodating students for this year s event by Yahaira, Jesus & Ms. Horton. Field Trip[s], 2014 Zoo Miami, T.B.A. Student Industry Conference, 05/14/ 2014 February, 2014 Student of the Month - Yadeilys Marquez is a 10 th grade student in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. Yadeilys takes pride in completing assignments and offers to assist with the planning and preparation in various academy related activities. Most recently, she volunteered with another academy student, Alexandra Bermudez to compile the classroom binder with information Ms. Horton has already submitted electronically for the on-line Evidence Binder. Lastly, Yadeilys was also recognized for making the Superior Honor Roll based upon meeting the requirements of an academic Grade Point Average of 3.60, and has a 4.0 Grade Point Average in my class.

Curriculum Enhancement (continued) Project Based Learning, 10 th grader, Yadeilys Marquez and all students in the Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism classes were assigned a project to build a replica of their Ideal Hotel of the Future. Well, she is to be commended for the attention to detail put into this project; which speaks volume to what she has learned about the Hotel and Lodging Management Industry. Promotional Activities (continued) CBS Channel 4 Super Kid; Cassandra Gonzalez Cassandra is a junior in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism who was recently featured on Saturday, February 27 th. She had the opportunity to meet King of hospitality, Master Chef of Culinary Cuisine and the Founder/Director of the Food Channel s South Beach Wine and Food Festival, Lee Schrager. Cassandra also met Miami Heats Dwayne Wades personal chef as well. Academy Subject Selections - Ms. Horton is working with counselors to ensure students subject selection forms are completed and students are in the correct strands for the upcoming year. Additionally, academy students Yadeilys Marquez & Alexandra Bermudez assisted with recruitment of current students during their lunch periods.
