SLATER PARK LOOFF CAROUSEL The Slater Park Looff Carousel, adjacent to the Daggett House, is the oldest Looff stander carousel in the world. The carousel was built by pioneer craftsman Charles I.D. Looff in 1895 and installed at Slater Park in 1910. It has 44 horses, three dogs, one lion, one camel, one giraffe and two chariots. The carousel celebrates 100 years in Slater Park with a special celebration on July 3. SLATER PARK SUMMER DAY CAMP The City of Pawtucket offers a free day camp program in Slater Park for all Pawtucket residents ages 6 to 13 years old. WHEN: Mondays through Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. STARTS: Tues., July 6 to Thurs., August 12 Inclement weather, camp is cancelled. WHERE: Drop off and Pick up at the Picnic Grove The program includes supervised activities and a free lunch. Children ages 14 and 15 years may apply for a non-paying assistant position. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp. The Slater Park office roof was renovated and the building was painted. Various sports field fences were replaced throughout the city. The Marconi Gardens moat water system was reconfigured. A $600,000 Parks & Recreation Bond will be on the 2010 November ballot. 17-6-

This area features hardcover and paperback fiction for teens, as well as manga and graphic novels, comic books and magazines. There is also a section for books that appear on school and summer reading lists. Tables and chairs are available for teens to sit and read or work on homework in the Teen Zone. The Teen Summer Reading Program is open for students entering sixth grade through high school. Any books that you read between June 21 and August 27th earn you the chance to get prizes at the library. If you need to read for a school assignment or you just like to read, stop by the Teen Zone to get started anytime beginning on Monday, June 21st. To earn a prize, you must fill out a short review of the book you ve read and give it to the Teen Librarian. Teen Tuesday is from 3 to 4:15 pm on June 22, 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27; August 3, 10, 17 & 24 in the library auditorium. Students entering 6th grade through high school are welcome to stop by at 3 pm to have fun. A schedule of activities will be available on the first day and will include crafts, food, games, books and more. This program is free and no sign-up is needed.
