JOB TITLE: Clinical Psychology Intern 1. PURPOSE OF POSITION To provide assessment and treatment to clients referred for Clinical Psychology Services within the Adult Mental Health Service and Child & Adolescent Service under the supervision of Senior Clinical Psychologists within the stipulations set for final year students undergoing their Clinical Internships within their Doctorate of Clinical Psychology training Programmes. 2. 5. ACCOUNTABILITIES Key area of responsibility 1. Clinical Duties Under supervision from Senior Clinical Psychologist, manage a clinical case-load of 5 (within in each area) with responsibility for the assessment, formulation, treatment of clients referred for psychological therapy within the Adult and CAMHS multidisciplinary teams (MDT s). Supervision feedback to management and university Expected outcomes Clients referred to Psychologists through multidisciplinary teams (MDT s). Supervisor selects clients for Intern. Intern received weekly supervision of cases. Undertakes necessary psychometrics for assessment purposes. Undertakes Neuropsychological assessments. Writes assessment, treatment and discharge reports. Liaises and networks with referrers, colleagues and agencies as required. 2. Patient Care And Customer Service The clinical service provided adheres to company and collegial standards. Patients will be given clear explanation how treatment will proceed and treatment options and their consent will be sought to this at the outset. The Psychologist will be aware of the role of the Complaints Officer, cultural consent and client s rights. The Psychologist will adhere to the professional and ethical standards set down by the NZ Psychological Society. The Psychologist will cooperate with the quality assurance programme of Taranaki Health. Commitment to biculturalism and the Treaty of Waitangi. The clinical service provided adheres to company and collegial standards. 3. Environment & Facilities Appropriate records will be maintained for all clients who are seen by the appointee. All documentation standards and TDHB policies to be followed by internee. Intern to provide administrative reports to unit manager/team leader as requested. 4. Team Work Communicate and Liaise with colleagues in a professional manner Participate in appropriate professional and multidisciplinary team meetings with both areas as required. Attend collegial meetings and in-services. The Psychologist will be involved in educating colleagues and health professionals within the organisation on topics related to their clinical work. 8. EDUCATION Masters Degree in Psychology or equivalent. Accepted onto a recognised Postgraduate Clinical Programme in Clinical Psychology. Has an Intern Psychologist Scope of Practice and Interim Practicing Certificate. 9. SKILLS Sound clinical knowledge. Demonstrates good working knowledge of the NZ Psychological Society Code of Ethics. Demonstrates good understanding of risk assessment considerations and practice and risk management in the mental health field. Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislative requirements and TDHB policies. Knowledge and understanding of TDHB visions goals and objectives. Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with conflict, listening and valuing the views of others. Ability to cope in crisis situations both clinical and non-clinical. Excellent prioritising skills. Able to cope with a high and varied work load. Have a commitment to quality and accuracy and keen to learn and develop new skills. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team. Computer literate. Strong cultural awareness and ability to implement strategies that is responsive to the health needs of Maori. Knowledge of Tikanga Maori. Effective management of allocated client caseloads. Ability to take a creative and innovative approach to problem solving to ensure that the diverse needs of different client groups can be met effectively.
