Level 1 Sports Trainer Course Content & Accreditation Information
Course Information: Accreditation or Certification: Successful participants will receive a SMA National Accreditation or participation Certificate as a Level 1 Sports Trainer with the competencies learnt on the day. Modules included in this course include: Sports Trainer in action Principles of Injury Management Common Sporting injuries and illnesses Common Medical Conditions Affecting Athletes Sports Taping Moving Injured Athletes Pre-requisites (mandatory): To be eligible to undertake this course participants must hold, or obtain, and produce evidence of currency in the following qualifications: HLTAID004 Provide emergency first aid response in an education and care setting or HLTAID003 Provide First Aid HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation Participants must bring or send prior to course copies of their current First Aid certificate and CPR accreditation as mentioned above or accreditation will not be issued. Course Assessment Assessment is conducted throughout the duration of the course and is holistic in approach. Assessment consists of practical assessment sessions, workbook activities, scenario sessions including oral questions and a multiple-choice written assessment. Participants will need to display competency in all assessable elements to gain their qualification. If a participant feels they need modified assessment they are to contact Sports Medicine Australia Qld on 3367 2700 to organise. If the workbook is not fully completed during the course, this must be and returned to SMA QLD within 2 weeks of course completion. Participation Certificate Workshop participation certificate is FREE to those who complete all requirements as outlined above if you are a: registered school primary or secondary school teacher as evidenced by a copy of your teacher s registration; or school sport volunteer with a letter of support on school letterhead; or secondary school student with a letter of support on school letterhead; or University student studying a bachelor of education with a letter of support on university letterhead. If you wish to gain your SMA National Accreditation as a Level 1 Sports Trainer, a fee of $85 will apply payable to SMA QLD by cheque or credit card. This fee must be paid before the course start date if you wish to receive your SMA National Accreditation Certificate and Level 1 Sports Trainer Manual.
Issue of Accreditation or Certification Participants should expect to receive their SMA National Accreditation or participation certificate within three weeks of course completion, providing all completed paperwork has been received at the SMA QLD office. If you would like to enquire about the certificate, contact SMA on 3367 2700. SMA Membership Participants must have an SMA National Level 1 Sports Trainer Accreditation for $85.00, to be eligible for SMA Membership which requires an additional annual membership fee. Pens and notepaper. Manuals and workbooks will be supplied where required. The course runs for the duration as identified on the supplied outline. There is a requirement that students will participate in all theory and practical elements of the course to gain skills and competency from the variety of learning opportunities developed by Sports Medicine Australia Qld. This therefore gives students the opportunity to practice and refine their skills prior to assessment. Sports Medicine Australia Qld will provide support for students with a literacy and/or numeracy impairment with assistance or modification of training programs.
