Generation IV: Challenging Topics Innovative reactor systems, especially Generation IV Systems offer challenging and cutting edge research for PhD students and young scientists. EURATOM is a very active partner in GIF, covering all six Gen-IV systems, related fuel and fuel cycle options. EURATOM funding allowed German research centres to participate in GIF bodies and projects; e.g. HPLWR. Intern. 50 years of the Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart The Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart was created in 1958, edited by Walter Seelmann- Eggebert together with Gerda Pfennig. The latest (7 th ) edition from 2006 contains new and updated radioactive decay data on 618 nuclides not found in the previous edition. In total, nuclear data on more than 2962 experimentally observed nuclides and 692 isomers are presented. 19 Peter Fritz - Honorary Symposium - November 15, 2010 Vice President Research and Innovation

Summary The sustainable energy system worldwide can only be created when joining all energy sources in an ideology-free approach. Education and Training in nuclear technologies is an international issue which can only be solved in close collaboration of all stakeholders. Roland Schenkel and the European Commission helped a lot to create a European nuclear education and research arena, especially in Germany. 25 Peter Fritz - Honorary Symposium - November 15, 2010 Vice President Research and Innovation
