2 We Face a Major Shortfall in Technical Resources in the U.S. Baby Boomers total 64M and are >40% of U.S. labor force 10,000 American per day are turning 65 during 2010 Demand for scientists and engineers is projected to grow 4 x faster than the aggregate labor force Engineers in U.S. are an aging workforce Greater than 50% of engineers are greater than 50 years old Retirement + attrition = 47% loss of engineers by 2012 Colleges and universities report: Since 1990, a 50% drop in graduating engineers In 2005, 137,437 undergraduate Engineering degrees awarded in U.S. 50% to foreign national students China graduated 325,000 engineers India graduated 351,000 engineers Demand for scientific and engineering positions Anticipated to grow at a rate three times faster than the rate for all other occupations (National Science Foundation) U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

9 Middle & High School Career Programs Sponsored by CVCC Summer Career Academy Description: AREVA partners with NSF and CVCC to teach students about various fields of Nuclear Services with emphasis on Nuclear Engineering and engineering support. Students take part in presentations, demonstrations, and practical exercises in Robotics (Lego League & RANGER/ROGER), Photogrammetry, Non-Destructive Examination Services (Magnetic Particle Testing), and Job Safety Training for Radiological Areas. Objectives - During this academy, students: Learn basics of how to assemble, program, and use robots. Understand the importance of robotics in the Nuclear Service Industry. Understand what Photogrammetry is, its importance and use in Nuclear Services. Understand the importance and application of NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) Services. Understand importance of safety at AREVA and in the Nuclear Industry in general industrial and radiological safety.

10 High School Programs Sponsored by CVCC Summer Apprenticeship Program 8 week program for rising Juniors & Seniors Receive 4 college credits through CVCC Summer apprentices focus on Nuclear Services with a broad overview of other operations at AREVA including: Design Engineering Fuel Manufacturing Pump & Motor Service Refurbishment Facilities New Plants / Reactors Site Operations Apprentices work with and are trained and mentored by the AREVA Operations and Engineering staff. Learn NDE fundamentals Operate robotics and tooling machines Tour facilities and attend lectures Assist in checkout of systems and software Participate in engineering Design Review Boards Take a leadership role in the AREVA Summer Academy Student Compensation is funded by grants from Tech Prep Region 2000, the Department of Labor, the National Science Foundation, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission

11 AREVA/CVCC Nuclear Technician Employee Training Program Program provides a mix of: Traditional academic courses Highly focused technology courses Hands-on learning experience On-the-job training Technicians support field activities during power plant outage seasons in Spring and Fall (1 credit per 300 hours of work up to 6 credits) During non-outage seasons, technicians take CVCC courses & AREVA technical training Technicians receive college credit for a portion of their AREVA training (up to 12 credits) Other college-level courses are taught on a flexible, often accelerated schedule Technicians receive an Associates Degree in Nuclear Support Technologies (67 credit required) Receive steady income year-round for both work and training periods Full employment benefits All educational expenses paid

12 Nuclear Support Technologies Program Statistics The program began in employees have been enrolled in the program 59 employees have graduated from the program takes 2-1/2 to 3 years to graduate 35 are currently enrolled We hire on average 8 employees per year into the program All who graduated were reclassified into permanent employment making an higher salary wage 45 of those who have graduated are still with the company Note that this program is application oriented Does not prepare a student directly for a BS in engineering at the third year level due to the need for higher level math and science classes However, 9 are pursuing bachelors in engineering
