Hopkinton Middle School Clubs and Activities We are proud of the many clubs and activities we offer at the Middle School. Thanks to the teachers who make this possible by giving of their time. DON T HESITATE. TO GET INVOLVED! Art Club Ms. Barrett Students are involved in a variety of school-based beautification projects as well as exploring various art media. A.M. Homework Clubs: (Grade 8) (Grade7) (Grade 6) Mr. Verra Mr. Casey Mr. Meehan For students who need to be dropped off at school before 7:15 a.m., the Morning Homework Club is the place for you! Students can use this time to study, catch up on school work, talk with friends, etc. before reporting to their homerooms. Best Buddies Club Mr. Casey This club is designed to improve the school environment with the goal of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to have a friend.

Chess Club Mr. LeBlanc Chess club offers a friendly, competitive environment to learn the game of chess. Students learn about all aspects of the game, from checkmating patterns to endgame strategies. Beginners are more than welcome, and students can choose to play casual games or to compete for points in monthly tournaments. Communiteen Mr. Rockwood Communiteen is a group of students who come up with exciting ways to help people (and even animals) who are in need. Activities include the Walk for Hunger, various food, charity, and clothing drives, and other community-school based activities. Drama Ms. Gifford The HMS Drama Club provides all students with theatrical opportunities throughout the year. A fall play, a spring musical, and varied performances such as Comedy Night are open to all students as well as regular Drama Club meetings, a Classic Film Series, and other activities in which students explore and expand their creative performance selves.

ELC Leadership Academy Mr. Gunduz Graduates from the ELC Leadership Academy become members of the Enjoy Life Club. Following our full week of cutting edge Leadership Education program, students participate in a commencement which begins an empowering bond with their peers and former Academy graduates as members of our positive leadershipbased Club. The Club is a nexus of students living with an inspired attitude to value themselves and recognize the best in others. Internally motivated, Club members are dedicated to maximizing their potential, empowering others to lead and helping people become the best possible versions of themselves. ELC is open to 8 th graders only. Explore Pottermore Ms. Huestis During weekly meetings of Explore Pottermore, students will have the opportunity to explore J.K. Rowling's Pottermore.com online, which is an interactive accompaniment to the Harry Potter book series. Additionally, students will have a place to share their enthusiasm for the book series through guided group discussions and various activities throughout the year such as The Yule Ball, Harry Potter Movie Night, and Harry Potter Trivia Night. Fall Play and Spring Musical Ms. Gifford Macbeth - November 30 and December 1 Cinderella - April 26, 27, 28 Auditions will be announced.

Glee Club Mrs. Conant Glee Club is open to all musicians at HMS. Students will perform solos and group numbers in front of the rest of the group. The goal for each singer will be to improve his/her solo voice and learn to sing with others. Green Team Mr. Siedlecki The Green Team will offer students the opportunity to build real world skills while making a difference in their community. Students will: - Research various environmental issues and develop possible solutions - Analyze the costs and benefits of going green - Develop public speaking and video production skills while creating public service announcements - Practice good citizenship o Orchestrate all recycling efforts at HMS o Lobby government officials for change HMS TV Jim Cozzens If you are interested in learning how to make TV shows, covering school events, being part of a production crew, working with professional production equipment, being in front of the camera, or learning what it takes to run a multimedia empire, then HMS-TV is for you. This club is open to all grades.

Homework Club Mrs. Malone The Homework Club is a place for students to complete their homework after school in an oasis. All students are welcome to join. Students who participate in other after school activities (band, chorus, clubs, sports, or getting help from teachers) can come to the Homework Club from 1:50 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Hopkappella Club Mrs. Conant Open by audition to 7th and 8th grade chorus, orchestra, and band members. This ensemble performs a variety of music from popular to medieval with no instrumental accompaniment. Performances will vary throughout the year. IGNITE Mr. Kearney/Mr. Verra, Mrs. Daigneault, Ms. Kirshenbaum All sixth grade students participate in IGNITE and eighth grade students apply to be IGNITE mentors.

Intramurals/Tournaments Mrs. Abate Students participate in a wide variety of exciting after school athletic activities that may include Flag Football in the fall, March Madness basketball tournament in the winter, and volleyball tournament in the spring. Jazz Band - 7 th & 8 th Grades Mr. Dodge Middle School Jazz Band is open to all grade 7 and 8 band students and students who play piano, guitar, and bass. Students will rehearse and perform a variety of jazz, blues, and rock styles. The group will perform at the December and June Middle School concerts this year and at Jazz Night in April. Jazz Band 6 th Grade Mr. Dodge Grade 6 Jazz Club is open to all grade 6 band students and students who play piano, guitar, and bass beginning in January. Students will rehearse and perform a variety of jazz, blues, and rock styles. The group will perform at December and June Middle School concerts this year and possibly at Jazz Night in April.

Math Counts Mrs. Weiss and Mrs. Kouris Math Counts is a fun and engaging math club that challenges students to solve rich problems that deepen their analytical, logical, and problem solving skills. Students will practice in school and then be challenged to partake in a "competition" against other schools. Newspaper Club Mrs. Sloan The Hopkinton Middle School Shout Out is a web-based, student-run newspaper. The newspaper is currently in its second year of production and includes columns, teacher interviews, student features, and coverage of school events. Student Council Mrs. Abate The Middle School student council consists of four 8th grade officers and a representative from each homeroom. These students are responsible for organizing and running school activities, such as the 7th and 8th grade dances, MS spirit week, and the 6th grade magazine drive to name just a few.

Table Tennis Club Mr. Verra/Mr. Casey Table Tennis Club is offered to students in grades 6-8. Students can play for fun or more competitive players can participate in a table tennis ladder challenging other players for the top positions on the ladder. Students build their skills by playing or observing more advanced players or by attending exhibitions given by adult elite players. Talent Show Coordinators Ms. Gifford Mr. Rockwood Ms. Conant The Hopkinton Middle School Student Talent Show will take place in the Spring. Yearbook Mrs. Conner Students are involved in creating the yearbook for the entire Middle School. This involves picture taking, layouts, and working with computers.

Yoga Club Ms. Stukuls Yoga Club is open to boys and girls in all grades. We will learn the basic and common poses of yoga as well as some fun and more challenging poses and stretches as well. It is a great way to stretch, gain strength and balance, and relax!
