The lot south of the school is starting to be developed again. There is a section of sidewalk that is closed off on the east side of Mingay Avenue. Students will have to cross to the west side of Mingay with the crossing guard at Edward Jeffreys Avenue and then walk to Bur Oak to cross at the traffic lights. Please discuss a safe route to school with your children. Walk safely! Sidewalk Closure Grade 1 Food Drive We would like to tell you about food bank. We are bringing food to school so that we can bring it to the food bank. Our goal is 694 items of food. That s how many kids are in our whole school. Our food drive started on May 12 th and will end on May 23 rd. For our field trip, we are going to take the food to the food bank and we are also going to buy at least one thing extra from the Loblaws. We want to bring food to the food bank so people who don t have any food can get it for free. Pizza Lunch On Monday 28 th May, there was a very special delivery at Wismer P.S. A plow was delivered, together with a tarp, some paint and brushes, all ready for Grade 5A to paint. Grade 5A had been chosen to paint a plow together with 10 other Grade 5 classes in York Region. This initiative was organized by The Public Works Dept. of York Region. Grade 5A brainstormed ideas and finally took inspiration from Catherine M s sweater! It said Be Nice to Nature! We had our theme. The students chose item that they would like to paint on the plow. These included butterflies, toadstools, trees, a pond, bees, birds and flowers. The plow was taken away on Friday, May 9 th. Together with the 9 other plows, the Wismer plow was on show at the Family Fun Day organized by The Public Works Dept. in East Gwillimbury on Saturday, May 24 th. Have a look at the pictures of our plow! There is no pizza lunch the last week of school. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR CHILD S LUNCH ON THE LAST TUESDAY IN JUNE!! Grade 5A Paint a Plow! Page 2
