1 May 26 th Newsletter #7 RAD EXAM RESULTS: RAD BALLET Examinations results are in! We ask that parents pick up the results in the office. Results will not be handed out to students. All exam candidates have been successful! A BIG congratulations to everyone. We are still waiting on results for ISTD exams, they have no yet arrived. Here is our final Newsletter of the year, which has further details for our year-end recital. This is quite a lengthy newsletter, however all information below is EXTREMELY important for the coming weeks. It will be your guide and hopefully answer any questions you may have. Before you read all the important and pertinent information, the staff of KBS DANCE would like to thank all of our parents for your continued support this year. We truly are blessed, words can t thank you enough. We d also like to thank our students for working so hard and inspiring us for this year s June Recital. We hope everyone enjoys the show! TICKET SALES Tickets for the June Recital will go on sale on: SATURDAY, May 31st at 9:30am 12:30pm at KBS. Tickets for all performances are $25.00 Below are the hours for our Box Office for the remainder of that week: Monday June 2nd: 5:00pm - 7:30pm Tuesday June 3rd: 5:00pm - 7:30pm Wednesday June 4th: 5:00pm - 7:30pm Thursday, June 5th: 5:00pm - 7:00pm Friday, June 6th : 4:30pm - 6:30pm Saturday, June 7 h : 9:30am -12:30pm Tickets can be purchased after June 7th during Recital Week at the Ron Maslin Theatre. For those dancers only dancing in one half of the Recital, you are free to buy a ticket for them and they can sit in the audience and watch the half they are not dancing in. There are no ins and outs of the audience throughout the show, so your dancer may join you before or after the intermission if applicable. All audience members need their own tickets. Any child that is not old enough to sit on their own should not attend the show. It is the Ron Maslin and fire marshal rules that all audience members need their own seat. 2 DVD SALES DVDs for the June show can be pre-ordered for $25.00 when you purchase your tickets or anytime with the Box Office personnel. DVDs will be produced over the summer; parents will be contacted when it is ready for distribution RECITAL RUNNING ORDER: Here is the Running Order for the June Recital. 3 RECITAL PICTURES: Group and individual photos will be taken at DRESS REHEARSAL. Photos will be available for purchase through Zendios Technical Services. Any questions regarding photos and the purchasing of photos please contact Scott Miller at: COSTUME INVOICES: All Costume invoices for the June Recital have been sent. Please remit payment immediately. All fees must be submitted BEFORE JUNE 2nd Students with outstanding costume fees will not receive a costume, and therefore will not be able to participate in Dress Rehearsal. Costumes will be brought to the theatre on Wednesday June 11 th, so they will be ready to wear on stage for Thursday s dress rehearsal. Costumes being purchased will not go home with students until the after the last performance on June 14 th. RECITAL WEEK: Here is a summary of the schedule for the week of the Recital. Monday June 9 th : Regular Classes at KBS This is our last day at KBS. Regular classes will take place as usual. Some classes may be asked to attend an extra rehearsal at the teacher s discretion. You will be notified if this is the case. Tuesday June 10 th : Staging Rehearsal at Ron Maslin Theatre - 4:30pm Rehearsal for ALL students. We all move to the Ron Maslin Theatre. Rehearsal will run in order of the show (running order above). **NOTE: The final number (FAMJAM) will be rehearsed at intermission** All students dancing in the first half of the show should arrive by 4:30pm for a prompt start time. Students dancing in the second half should arrive by 6:30pm. Parents and students are welcome to watch this day. Bring a snack, however food and drink are not permitted in the theatre. Once the student is finished, they are free to leave or may stay to watch the other dances. When you arrive to the theatre it is much easier for the teachers and parents if students sit with their classes. This way, when they are called to the stage it is easier and quick to locate everyone. All students must wear correct practice clothes (what they wear to class) with proper hair. Wednesday June 11 th : Technical Rehearsal at Ron Maslin Theatre 5:30pm Rehearsal for ALL students Rehearsal will run in order of the show. **NOTE: The final number (FAMJAM) will be rehearsed at intermission**

4 This is a sharp 5:30pm start time; students in early numbers should arrive by 5:00pm. Students dancing in the second half should arrive by 7:00pm. This rehearsal is to work out the technical glitches and we thank you in advance for your patience. Parents and students are welcome to watch this day however, food and drink are not permitted in the theatre. All costumes for the recital should be brought to the theatre this day to be organized ironed, labelled, and ready to go for the remainder of the week. Stage Crew dads should attend if possible, even if for a portion of the evening. All students must wear correct practice clothes with proper hair. Thursday June 12 th : Dress Rehearsal Rehearsal start time is 6:30pm. Students in the first half should arrive by 5:30pm in order to get ready in full makeup, hair and costumes for the Dress Rehearsal. Students in the second half should arrive by 6:30pm to prepare. The Dress Rehearsal will run like a regular show and will be a CLOSED rehearsal to everyone except staff members. Dancers should be dropped off and picked up at the stage door entrance. Students dancing only in the first half can be picked up at intermission. Friday June 13th and Saturday June 14th : Public Performances Friday June 13 th : 7:30pm evening performance Students in the first half should arrive by 6:30 and students in the second half should arrive by 7:30pm Saturday June 14 th : June Recital 2:00pm matinee and 7:30pm evening performance. Again, students in the first half should arrive one hour prior to the beginning of the show (1:00pm and 6:30pm). Students in the second half should arrive when the show begins (2:00pm and 7:30pm) If a student is dancing in only the first half of the show, they are free to leave/be picked up at intermission (or to watch the second half of the show if they have purchased a ticket). If a student is dancing only in the second half of the show and they have purchased a ticket to watch the first half, they should immediately come backstage at intermission to get ready. Students should be sure their personal possessions are labelled, and should avoid bringing valuables to the theatre. We ask that students respect the theatre throughout the week and during the performances as it is our home for the week! We still need dressing room helpers! Please sign up in the office this goes for parents helping in our boys dressing room as well! Dancers don t forget to bring your smiles! The dress rehearsal and all 3 shows will be video taped for the DVD!

5 TRILLIUM FLOWERS: A representative from Trillium Flowers will be present at all three performances to sell flowers if you wish to purchase some for your special dancer(s). They will be set up in the lobby of the Ron Maslin Theatre before each performance and until the intermission is over. We thank Trillium Flowers in advance for doing this for our parents and we would also like to thank them for the flowers they will be providing our staff. WHAT TO WEAR? HOW TO DO MY HAIR AND MAKEUP? For the majority, the costumes will arrive to the theatre for the Dress Rehearsal and Performances for the students. Be sure to check with your teacher as to what you are responsible for, i.e. shoes and tights, hair accessories, etc. If your child needs help getting their hair or makeup done, please ensure they arrive with enough time for someone to help (a staff member or a parent volunteer). Hair: All classes will have specific hair styles, so be sure to inquire if you are unsure. Teachers have most likely discussed this in class with their students, but the message may have not made it home. Makeup: ALL female students should be wearing makeup as follows: Blush, eye liner, mascara, eye shadow and lipstick. For eye liner and mascara, black or brown is acceptable. Students should have rosy cheeks, so they do not look pale in their pictures or on stage. If students are not wearing eye liner, mascara and blush, their faces will be washed out from the bright stage lights. Earth tones are acceptable for eye shadows, or add a little colour to match the costume your child is wearing, if appropriate. Fake eye lashes are needed for senior students ONLY if you are not sure if you need them, ask! Unless your costume has pink tones the lipstick we require is REVLON 740 Certainly Red REGISTRATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2014 All currently registered students will be contacted via or by telephone in mid-late July with Pre-Registration details once we have developed a schedule for the season.
